Donald Trump op-ed: My vision for a Culture of Life
Washington Examiner ^ | January 23, 2016 | Donald Trump

Posted on 01/23/2016 8:47:03 AM PST by ironman

Let me be clear - I am pro-life. I support that position with exceptions allowed for rape, incest or the life of the mother being at risk. I did not always hold this position, but I had a significant personal experience that brought the precious gift of life into perspective for me. My story is well documented, so I will not retell it here. However, what I will do with the remaining space is express my feelings about life, and the culture of life, as we just marked the 43rd anniversary of Roe v. Wade.

I build things. There is a process involved in building things.......The rules for putting structures together are as strict as are the rules of physics. These rules have stood the test of time and have become the path to putting together structures that endure and are beautiful. America, when it is at its best, follows a set of rules that have worked since our Founding. One of those rules is that we, as Americans, revere life and have done so since our Founders made it the first, and most important, of our "unalienable" rights.

Over time, our culture of life in this country has started sliding toward a culture of death. Perhaps the most significant piece of evidence to support this assertion is that since Roe v. Wade was decided by the Supreme Count 43 years ago, over 50 million Americans never had the chance to enjoy the opportunities offered by this country. They never had the chance to become doctors, musicians, farmers, teachers, husbands, fathers, sons or daughters. They never had the chance to enrich the culture of this nation or to bring their skills, lives, loves or passions into the fabric of this country. They are missing, and they are missed.

GOD does not have exceptions for rape, incest, or the risk of life of the mother.

Isn't that Santorum's position?

How's he doing?

With Hillary you'll get more pro-abortion judges on the Supreme Court. With any of the Republicans there's a chance they'll appoint another Thomas or Scalia.

But then he puts things out there that conservatives struggle to make the public aware of or rally to. It's like he is popularizing many ideas that conservatives hold dear or believe is imperative that thev Left squashes easily day in and day out.

All I ask is, will the real Donald Trump please stand up?

Why should a baby be murdered when it comes to rape or incest? Is TRUMP really pro-life?

While I don't agree with that exception, it should be noted that George W. Bush also had that exception and it's pretty common.

Read between the lines: he’s opposed to Roe v. Wade.

In other words, no more meddling by the Federal government. As President, if he nominates judges opposed to Roe v Wade, what more do you want? Federal meddling in the opposite extreme?

Roe v Wade was wildly unpopular when it was first ruled.

He’s speaking at two levels here —

Reality: Judges who agree with Roe-v-Wade not welcome. Not only does that end federal meddling of state abortion laws, it also cleans out 90% of our worst activist judges.

Empathy:

“I can really understand if a rape victim wants an abortion. I can really understand the hypothetical choice reg. life of the mother. I get it.”

True.

My point was that a “mother’s life at risk” provision basically translates to abortion on demand at any point in pregnancy. I’m not saying that’s what Donald Trump intends to support - only he knows - but that’s what it is.

"You realize that abortion was already legal in some states prior to 1973 do you."

On the other hand if Roe v Wade is overturned it won't be in many.

Funny, when Romney pretended he had changed his mind recently about abortion, a lot of pro-life people readily believed him and rushed to vote for him...

30 years ago I heard a female from Right to Life being interviewed on radio...

the group was new then and I was excited to learn they were now in my state..

then the female was asked if there was ever a time when abortion was OK and I expected her to echo what I knew .. NEVER...

however she said Oh yes for rape, incest, and the health/life of the “mother”

In all these years I have not had any respect or time for Right to Life ...

BTW this is what Romney claimed in 2012 and many here voted for him...

An ectopic pregnancy is not what is in discussion when people are talking about abortions to save the life of the mother. That argument is just like the argument thrown out for cases of rape and incest.

By the way, whoever told you that "the child should be saved instead of the mother if a choice had to be made," was in error, if by this they meant that one could be deliberately killed as a means to an end. Here's the thing: neither is to be intentionally killed for the sake of the other. According to Catholic ethics, the baby and the mother have an exactly equal right to life.

Everyone --- the drunk in the gutter, the President in the Oval Office, the dying vet in the VA hospice, the embryo in the IVF lab, Jesus Christ crucified --- has an equal right to life. There are no gradation on this one.

"With Trump you get 60-75% of what you want in a candidate, without him you get 100% of a Demoncrat. Make your choice."

Well in that case why not vote for Bush III ?

'Cause 40% don't cut it?
