Donald Trump op-ed: My vision for a Culture of Life
Washington Examiner ^ | January 23, 2016 | Donald Trump

Posted on 01/23/2016 8:47:03 AM PST by ironman

Let me be clear - I am pro-life. I support that position with exceptions allowed for rape, incest or the life of the mother being at risk. I did not always hold this position, but I had a significant personal experience that brought the precious gift of life into perspective for me. My story is well documented, so I will not retell it here. However, what I will do with the remaining space is express my feelings about life, and the culture of life, as we just marked the 43rd anniversary of Roe v. Wade.

I build things. There is a process involved in building things.......The rules for putting structures together are as strict as are the rules of physics. These rules have stood the test of time and have become the path to putting together structures that endure and are beautiful. America, when it is at its best, follows a set of rules that have worked since our Founding. One of those rules is that we, as Americans, revere life and have done so since our Founders made it the first, and most important, of our "unalienable" rights.

Over time, our culture of life in this country has started sliding toward a culture of death. Perhaps the most significant piece of evidence to support this assertion is that since Roe v. Wade was decided by the Supreme Count 43 years ago, over 50 million Americans never had the chance to enjoy the opportunities offered by this country. They never had the chance to become doctors, musicians, farmers, teachers, husbands, fathers, sons or daughters. They never had the chance to enrich the culture of this nation or to bring their skills, lives, loves or passions into the fabric of this country. They are missing, and they are missed.

That Kelo is a severe corruption of the “public use” clause is not much in dispute among conservative constitutional scholarship. It is a direct attack on the traditional notions of private property that underlie the entire capitalist system. The current read is so far attenuated from the early sense of public use that it can justify using eminent domain to help a burger joint kick one out of one’s home because maybe the burger joint could increase municipal revenue down the road, maybe.

BTW, the burger joint thing happened to folks I know. It’s not a law school hypothetical. So “victims?” Yep, altogether possible under the Kelo model.

The objective of the pro-life movement is to first, talk about a culture of life and change hearts and minds.

The first thing to get aborted is always the truth. We can't have the truth until the "hearts and minds" are ready for it.

Two Corinthians 13
7 Now I pray to God that ye do no evil; not that we should appear approved, but that ye should do that which is honest, though we be as reprobates.
8 For we can do nothing against the truth, but for the truth.

1 John 3:19
And hereby we know that we are of the truth, and shall assure our hearts before him.

Revelation 2:23
And I will kill her children with death; and all the churches shall know that I am he which searcheth the reins and hearts: and I will give unto every one of you according to your works.

"... making abortion difficult to procure will not create (recreate) a culture of life."

No, restricting access to abortion will not by itself (re)create a culture of life, but it IS part of the solution.

Law is not just shaped by culture; it is a powerful shaper of culture. Law Teaches. Never forget that.

? If we can get the Law to treat abortion as something undesirable, something fraught with unacceptable public risk, something degrading and dangerous to be firmly suppressed when possible, something profitable only to unsavory corporate creeps, something available only in a very limited number of places and times --- heck, if they would treat the abortion industry the way they treat the tobacco industry ---

It's not enough for abortion to be illegal. It should be uncool - then distasteful - then abhorrent - then unthinkable.

You’re kidding yourself if you think Mr. Deal Maker who has NO problem bribing politicians will not sell out to donors/k street...

Trump is probably one of the most crooked politicians to run in modern times, it’s hilarious that the ONLY complaint you have against Senator Cruz (a proven lifelong conservative who has fought tirelessly for conservative values) is something which Donald J. Trump is probably the most guilty of taking part in himself of all the candidates running.

Those are good points, but it a chicken and egg sort of problem as I see it.

How did we get to this point where abortion is so common? The problem was culture to being with. Before abortion became relatively safe (and legal) there children being left behind [look baby farms in England] and there have always been parents who are irresponsible and a culture that did not hold people who procreate to equal standards.

This culture did not just spring up out of nothing.

"Why should a woman be forced to give birth to the child of the scumbag who raped her? She didn’t ask to become pregnant."

For the same reason she should not be allowed to behead a toddler who was put on her property by an unknown trespasser. She may not want the child, but neither can she kill it. Ethically, a property-owner in this situation must exercise due diligence to keep the child alive and well until it can be handed over to some more permanent caring arrangement.

Or do you think you should be allowed to kill, crush, behead, dismember an unwanted little child you find yourself temporarily stuck with?

You can post all the Scripture you want, but it’s not going to save one baby’s life in the interim, unless you go through the steps I’ve outlined in the thread.

Thank you, one would always pray for the strength but I just don’t know how a woman could survive the reminder every day for the term of the pregnancy!! Any woman who could actually do this has something VERY special in their heart and soul! Just saying, I don’t know if I personally could do it, but until you are in that situation, God forbid, I guess no one would know the strength they actually could be given during that time!

A Christian without a testimony. Does he remember the date that he asked Jesus into his life, thanking Jesus for dying on the Cross for his sins???

No he does not even know or believe he is a sinner.

Not possible to receive Christ until we admit that we are sinners separated from God by our sin, needing a savior.

Sorry folks I did not write the Bible, if you disagree take it up with The Lord.

His pro life position has exceptions. He supports killing children if the mother does not feel well, if its rape or incest.

Does he believe we are created in the womb, and The Lord knows how many hairs are on our head? Love to see him sit down and discuss these things, perhaps with Russell Moore or someone along those lines.

One person i think about often is Stacy Dugart (spelling?) the young girl who had been raped viciously for years had a child with this despicable human being and loves her to death, this young lady is unbelievably strong after everything she has been through and actually survived it all!!

Remember. An article years ago that pointed out PP made abortions cheaper than obtaining birth control to justify their existence. Wonder what the statistics are now ‘?

All the candidates running believe in aborting the child in rape, incest, and “life of the mother”, except Santorum, Huckabee, Cruz and Rubio. “Catholics” Christie and Jeb Bush spit in the face of the Catholic Church (where no abortion for any reason is allowed), when they advocate murdering the child if they don’t like who the father is. Jeb is the most nauseating. He’s forever blabbing how “pro-life” he is when he sees nothing wrong in murdering the child if it was conceived in rape or incest. In other-words kill the child for the sins of the father. Bush also stood by and allowed Teri Schiavo to be murdered when he could have prevented it.

“I am pro-life. I support that position with exceptions allowed for rape, incest or the life of the mother being at risk”.

The exact same position of all the candidates running except Santorum, Huckabee, Cruz and Rubio. And the abortion candidates will tell you all day long they are pro-life. No hell, they are selective pro-life, babies conceived in rape and incest are to be murdered.
