The press corps tends to go with the cheap, easy, and spoon-fed narrative. That narrative is that Karl Rove is opening doors and rolodexes for Ben Carson to stop Donald Trump.
That’s not it and people in the know, know it.
Carson is collapsing and his support is headed to Ted Cruz. In Iowa and elsewhere, Carson voters are toying with Cruz and Rubio. Rove wants an establishment guy.
On Bloomberg Politics With All Due Respect earlier this week, Rove listed Bush, Christie and Marco Rubio as the three candidates most likely to knock Trump off when “the other 70 to 75 percent of the party begins to coalesce behind somebody.”
Rove knows the odds are with Rubio as Bush is cratering and Christie has been moved to the kids’ table debate. But he has to worry that enough Trump and Carson supporters go to Cruz that it galvanizes the base toward Cruz. Immigration has become the galvanizing issue of the day and to much of the base Cruz trumps Rubio on that.
So Rove needs to keep Carson viable long enough to hold off Cruz. Don’t believe me? Look at the polling. Trump is holding steady at about 30%.
The [“other 70 to 75 percent” in Rove’s quote is a] reference is to Trump’s polling numbers. Though consistently leading the Republican pack since the summer, Trump has never been able to get much past the 30 percent mark in the polls tracked by Real Clear Politics.
Carson is starting to crash, Rubio is going up, and Cruz is going up. Cruz is going way up in Iowa and the Rubio camp has started firing shots at him on national security. It is just not a coincidence that now that this is happening, Rove is helping Carson.
If you have ever read Rove in the Wall Street Journal or listened to him on television, or for that matter read the Wall Street Journal editorial page, which worships Rove, all are consistently anti-Cruz and fear him as the nominee.
Rove helping Carson may superficially appear to be about Trump, but the reality is this is all about holding off a Carson supporter shift to Ted Cruz.
Oh so now Erik decides that Rovio might not be such a good guy.
Restate has been blasting Cruz as unelectable and pushing Bush and Rubio for I don’t know how long
Oh boy, the DNCII party spokesman will lead us to victory for the DNC again!
Amanda Carpenter comes to Conservative Review fresh off an impressive tour on Capitol Hill, serving as Sen. DeMint's Speechwriter and Sen. Cruz's Speechwriter and Communications Director.

Mr. Rove is a nice man I am sure....other than that Mr. Establishment lost us the last two elections. Mr. Rove is not in any way synonymous with the U.S.Constitution. Ted Cruze is Mr. Constitution which scares the chuknowhat out of the Establishment. Mr. Trump on the other hand, scares the chuknowhat out of them because he keeps bringing up crimes of the state that both progressives and media have tried to keep covered up plus, there is not an ounce of Political Correctness in either Cruz or Trump!
Poor Rove. If it’s not Trump, it’s Cruz. If it’s not Cruz, it’s Trump. So many non-Free Labor express candidates, so little time to hit them all,
So little white board space to drivel nonsense on FoxNews.
Ryan, Rubio, and others were thought to be conservative stars at one time too....
The chart looked totally out in left field.
Posting garbage form Erick Erickson are now? LOL.
Carson apparently doesn’t know much about political business:
Donors gave a super PAC $6 million. Candidate actually got about $140,000.

Have you seen Carson wife’s picture in Refugee camp? Why she is wearing Head Scarf?
Karl Rove is only turning to Ben Carson to keep the support for Ted Cruz as low as possible.
This is a kind of three-cornered combination pool shot. Since it may be near impossible to resurrect Jeb Bush, and to avoid looking like simply jumping to Marco Rubio as next best, a lifeline is thrown to Gentle Ben (who may be soon to expire, by any objective standard) to pull support AWAY from Cruz. And who knows, maybe the extra emphasis may even give Gentle Ben enough of a boost to again become competitive with The Donald, the real target of all this fancy maneuvering and two-stepping. The fandango may last all to way to the convention, where it may be possible to broker a candidate, regardless of the support that may have been built through successive primary victories or good also-ran placings.
There is no possible problem with this many-faceted hedge collapsing, is there?
Like drawing to an inside straight, when the other player is holding a full house.
Why do some people even bother to sit down to a hand of poker?
I went there, Grahm is all yellow and red. Are you talking about another site?
I have no doubt whatsoever about Rove’s motives. My concern is that Carson would accept the help.
Machinations and motives aside, I know what this tells me in terms of Carson’ realness and sincerity. It totally counts him out of my ballot.
This is scary. With Rove’s help Carson is sure to push out Cruz!
hahahahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahhahahahahahahahahahahah
Rove is happy to destroy Carson by offering 30 pieces of silver. If I were even considering Carson (I am not), as you say, that would be a deal breaker for aligning with Rove. What a poker game this is turning into.
Rove probably also figures he could easily dominate and control a comparatively passive guy like Carson once he’s elected.
I wish that chart included some indication of how important each topic is to voters.
Basil, I think the reason is simple... There is one issue that is so much bigger than the others that all the rest together don’t trump it (see what I did there?)
The nUmber of green dots don’t predict the favored candidate; the size of the issues with the green dots do.
The chart as is does have good information but IMO only half of it. The other half would be how important each topic is to us. I thought maybe relative size of dot would show that? Or instead of an alphabetical order use order of importance?
Anyway, illegal immigration and its ancillary issues drown everything else out. And Trump kills that issue like nobody.
“This right here puts me down in the category of HELL NO if it comes to Ben Carson. Why? Because it tells me that heâs been weighed and measured by Rove and found worthy of corruption by power.”
Rove doesn’t think he can win, he is using Carson to knock out Cruz.
We’re not stupid here by any means, actually. Don’t need to be told why Rove is doing it. The big bugaboo here is that Carson accepts it.
