The press corps tends to go with the cheap, easy, and spoon-fed narrative. That narrative is that Karl Rove is opening doors and rolodexes for Ben Carson to stop Donald Trump.
That’s not it and people in the know, know it.
Carson is collapsing and his support is headed to Ted Cruz. In Iowa and elsewhere, Carson voters are toying with Cruz and Rubio. Rove wants an establishment guy.
On Bloomberg Politics With All Due Respect earlier this week, Rove listed Bush, Christie and Marco Rubio as the three candidates most likely to knock Trump off when “the other 70 to 75 percent of the party begins to coalesce behind somebody.”
Rove knows the odds are with Rubio as Bush is cratering and Christie has been moved to the kids’ table debate. But he has to worry that enough Trump and Carson supporters go to Cruz that it galvanizes the base toward Cruz. Immigration has become the galvanizing issue of the day and to much of the base Cruz trumps Rubio on that.
So Rove needs to keep Carson viable long enough to hold off Cruz. Don’t believe me? Look at the polling. Trump is holding steady at about 30%.
The [“other 70 to 75 percent” in Rove’s quote is a] reference is to Trump’s polling numbers. Though consistently leading the Republican pack since the summer, Trump has never been able to get much past the 30 percent mark in the polls tracked by Real Clear Politics.
Carson is starting to crash, Rubio is going up, and Cruz is going up. Cruz is going way up in Iowa and the Rubio camp has started firing shots at him on national security. It is just not a coincidence that now that this is happening, Rove is helping Carson.
If you have ever read Rove in the Wall Street Journal or listened to him on television, or for that matter read the Wall Street Journal editorial page, which worships Rove, all are consistently anti-Cruz and fear him as the nominee.
Rove helping Carson may superficially appear to be about Trump, but the reality is this is all about holding off a Carson supporter shift to Ted Cruz.

This right here puts me down in the category of HELL NO if it comes to Ben Carson. Why? Because it tells me that he’s been weighed and measured by Rove and found worthy of corruption by power.
The fact that this is being done as a stopgap against Cruz is no wonder. Cruz won’t be bought by the trappings of Rove’s allure.
Frankly, the Constitution is foreign to Rove insomuch as its meaning and intent. This was never lost on Cruz and he’s shown it over and over again. The fact that Carson is willing to accept Rove’s offer is enlightening to say the least.
Remora RINO Rove is a bottom feeder
who takes a cut of every “donation”,
every currency,
that transfers on his Roladex-watch.
I wonder if Karl Rove actually has deluded himself into thinking that he is helping Republican voters, or if he just doesn’t care, as long as his guys gain/retain power.
Odious boob Erick Erickson bloviates.
He and old Karl are quite alike.
Trump is strong, and growing stronger by the day.
Go Trump.
SAD to think that almost ANYONE would be preferable to the Hillster.
Carson...stalking horse for Bush
Makes sense to me. Only thing is, it's not going to work. Karl Rove is working himself into being forced to commit seppuku from bitterness and frustration sooner or later. Poor guy.
Rove helping Carson is all about trying to give Trump (or Cruz) a loss in Iowa.
Trump only appeals to repubs who want to win.
Every time I see this chart, I can’t figure out how so many freepers are in the tank for Trump.
According to the chart (and I have no idea where the chart came from and if it has any validity) It looks to me as though Cruz is the most conservative of the bunch.
Can there be any doubt about that?
Rove is out for himself and the Washington Cartel.
Period.
Even the Sunday morning newstalk programs seem to be Carson Rehab Sunday.
They [media and GOPe] need to boost him to take support away from Cruz and Trump. They know they can dump him later.
If I don’t like the ratings, talk to the master, not the lackey. Got it.
Two of the red dots are there because Trump used eminent domain to try to force an old woman to sell (she would not sell at any price). He lost the case, but kept the two red dots for his efforts.
The chart that Isara keeps posting is known to be invalid. It’s worthless and simply designed to make Trump look bad. Isara has been called out on this many times but does not care and keeps posting it.
Go to the web site and look at loser grahm. How can people see him as that conservative. He is almost all green with a few yellow dots. Unreal.
