Source close to Trump: Fox News hosts are asking him to end his boycott so that their ratings don’t
Hot Air ^ | SEPTEMBER 25, 2015

For all of our Trump fans, a sweet little morsel left over from yesterday’s Gabriel Sherman post about the latest eruption of the Trump/Fox war.

Are there any Fox News hosts so obsequious towards Trump that they might dial him up and beg him to come back, like Johnny Fontane pleading with the Godfather to help him get that part he always wanted? Seems hard to imagine for most of them. Emphasis on “most.”

One reason there likely won’t be peace in our time is that Trump still has not gotten over Kelly’s questioning of him during the opening Republican primary debate. “She caused me a lot of damage, didn’t she?” Trump recently vented to a friend. “He’s really angry,” a source explained…

Both sides are posturing to save face. Yesterday a Fox statement called Trump’s boycott “stale and tiresome.” But a source close to the Trump campaign told me that Trump thinks he has the leverage. Trump has been hearing from Fox hosts who are worried that his boycott will hurt ratings. The calculus seems to be that by shunning Fox, Trump is hoping to drive a wedge between Fox hosts, Kelly, and Ailes. That may be wishful thinking. As an Ailes friend told me today: “Roger can’t turn back. The entire credibility of Fox as powerbroker rests on Trump being destroyed.”

Wouldn’t that make Trump a fraud? You might have that view of him, but I don’t. No fraud raised those two straight arrow, ramrod sons and anamazingly beautiful and accomplished daughter.

You really reveal how shallow your thought processes are when you float a cynical idea like that.

Trump said it very recently; He loves Twitter. Reagan managed to go over the heads of congress and the media to a certain degree. But Trump can absolutely put them in drydock if he chooses to.

Trump. All that’s missing is the “I” and the “H”. TrIumpH. The word “landslide” won’t be big enough to cover it.

If that crack about Faux being compelled to destroy Trump in order to maintain some kingmaker or breaker status; the sooner we put Ailes and the rest out of their misery, the better.

That kind of crap cannot be allowed to prosper. If we shut them down, or even just wound them pretty bad; it may break some of the others from sucking eggs, too.

“Ailes can’t turn back. The entire credability of Fox.....depends on Trump being destroyed.”

Mellville wrote a story of a guy like Ailes who chase his whale the equivalent of Trump, Ahab had his obsession and Ailes has his.

Ailes is Capt. Ahab, and we know how that turned out.

I’ve often felt powerless and defeated at the knowledge that the powerful media is corrupt, and choosing sides; using their power to puff some candidates, and destroy others. And I despaired that nothing could be done about it.

Then along came Trump, with “a phone and a pen” if you will; and he can basically Twitter the bigshot networks, et al, right out of their heretofore impervious, snotty, dishonest positions of power.

Trump has Twitter, etc., Newt didn’t. Really didn’t use what WAS available back then.

Don’t forget Chris Wallace chortling, patting his black notebook, and gloating, “I’ve got some doozies in there,” just prior to that first “debate”.

And insult to injury, the following evening, Faux News preempted OReally by putting Wallace and Baier back on, where they lied their gluteous maximi off with whoppers like, “There were no premeditated or prearranged questions on our lists last evening.”

And Muggin Kelly was so innocent that she bagged her Thursday and Friday shows and took a spur of the moment 10 day hiatus; obviously thinking the crapstorm she and the others stirred up would dissipate in that length of time.

Six weeks later it STILL rages on. Granted, Faux News has kept stirring the pot. And each time they do, they succeed in P.Oing more of their viewers, and losing them. Faux News may have cooked their own goose this time. The very idea that Ailes considers it HIS duty and destiny to destroy Trump, puts him and the network beyond redemption for THIS election cycle. Can’t trust him or the windbags who work for him. Ailes cannot be trusted. Let him twist slowly in the breeze.

I feel badly for a few: Shannon Bream, Harris Faulkner, Lauren Green, Umma Pammuraju (Sic) and the other gal, a true journalist who breaks some serious stories periodically, and whose name I can’t recall because of an extended senior moment. The rest can go down with the ship.

This is leadership in my view. Trump knows how to mess with a brand. FOX has called for a meeting next week. The reason is because Trump mentioned the “B” word, for boycott.
He also endorsed OAN.

Roger Ailes is 75. Rupert Murdoch is 84. Rupert is turning his media empire over to his sons who appear to be globalist leftists. It is reported at least one of the sons hates Ailes. As soon as Rupert is gone from the scene, Ailes will be retired. Given Ruperts age, this is probably the last election cycle for Rupert and Ailes. In fact the shenanigans at Fox News this year may be the result of the power struggle within the company as Ailes is eased out the door and the sons take control. Megan Kelly may be taking her marching orders directly from the new boss and not Ailes.

Once Ailes is gone Fox will drop any pretense of being “fair and balanced” in the same way the GOPe has given up on any pretense of supporting conservative positions on the issues of the day. Fox will become another propaganda organ for the global new world order.

Longer term Fox, like all cable networks faces the looming unbundling of cable television. Millions of cable viewers are cutting the cord and reducing the cost of entertainment by shifting to over the air and Internet streaming content. Fox News is currently wedded to cable delivery. As high cost cable providers lose customers they will either unbundle and give consumers more choice at lower prices or they will lose customers to emerging competitors with different delivery technologies. In 10 years Fox News will be a very different company or it will be irrelevant. The track record for second and third generation family members running a company inherited from a visionary entrepreneur is not good. Rupert Murdochs sons may not be up to the challenge of developing a winning strategy as technology rapidly evolves.

If the new bosses at Fox ignore their conservative viewer base in the same way the GOPe is trying to walk away from its conservative voter base, Fox may find itself in deep trouble before it has to react to technology. Brands die rapidly when they stop delivering on the core brand promise. When your brand stands for “fair and balanced” and your loyal customers determine you are unfair and unbalanced, they will walk away quickly. Trump is a master marketer and by telling the core Fox audience the network is no longer “fair” he is potentially delivering a mortal wound to the brand. Hence Ailes scrambling since if viewership drops considerably in a short period of time he will be blamed, not the sons. The key question is, are the sons learning valuable business lessons from what is going on or are they blinded by arrogance and ideology? The future of Fox News depends on them.

My comment was meant to address some of the dynamics, Trump in a bad light, anchors doing this and that as mentioned in the article.

It’s not that I don’t think FoxNews would try to take Trump down, and if the writer had stayed with that premise I wouldn’t have objected.

it’s some of the added color that I found to sound like make believe.

I can see where you are coming from.

I do support Trump, so I am biased here. I think FoxNews is trying to take him down. I didn’t think the description in the article sounded very realistic.

That’s just my take on it.

I take that line about buying people off, with a grain of salt. He was donating big sumps himself.

I felt that Roger might be in trouble, because to me it looks like Trump is a shoe-in.

If Roger is taking his rep on killing Trump’s chances, his rep may be non-existent by this time next year.

Watched OAN again last night. They were the only station carrying Donald Trump in Oklahoma. I think it will be a long time, if ever, before FOX can repair the damage they have inflicted on themselves.
