NYT/CBS Poll: Carson, Trump in Statistical Dead Heat
Newsmax ^ | september 15, 2015 | Cathy Burke

Retired pediatric neurosurgeon Ben Carson has pulled to within 4 points of GOP presidential front-runner Donald Trump, a new poll shows.

In the New York Times/CBS News survey released Tuesday, Trump maintains the lead of the presidential pack, with 27 percent support. But Carson is within striking distance, at 23 percent, which is within the margin of error, making it a statistical dead heat.Carson's rise compared with his polling at 6 percent support in the pre-Aug. 6 debate Times/CBS News survey; Trump was at 24 percent in that earlier poll, showing Carson's gains the most significant in that time frame, the poll shows.

Far behind the leaders were former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, and Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, all tied for third place with 6 percent.

Bush's support, however, has plummeted from the 13 percent he got in the August Times/CBS News survey – while Wisconsin Gov. Scott Walker finished with just 2 percent, down from his previous 10 percent support.

The declines in support for Bush and Walker were the largest in the survey, the poll shows.

In other findings: Carson drew more support from college graduates than Trump, while men, evangelical voters and those without a college education were more likely to favor Trump. Carson is the only candidate to whom Trump would lose a theoretical head-to-head matchup.

The poll's release comes a day before the second Republican presidential debate in California, where Trump will retain center-stage, but Carson will be afforded a bigger spotlight.

These pollsters are trying to create a candidate.

And kill any notion of inevitability regarding Trump.

Carson is a nice guy but lacks the killer instinct we need. Even BS Sanders as well as HELLry would eat him alive

In addition, he supports Michael “Hands Up Don’t Shoot” Brown over the cop who defended himself.

Add his pro-amnesty position and other leftist ideas...

NO CARSON FOR ME!

as far as voting for ben...we don’t need another...getting hit on by his own once there and changing ever position he had before the election and his position on amnesty is the wrong position!

I need to see the demographics. Something is weird in a race where you have only 6 of 16 people above the MOE

The only black Republican I would vote for right now is Colonel Allen West and unfortunately that good man is not running. But I’m hoping President Trump will have a post in mind for a truly great patriot like West.

Agree.

Too nice to be running for President.

Though with Obama, both McCain and Romney didn’t want to come across as racist.

Hillary’s tried to play the gender card already in a similar manner, but it’s not working for her.

Obama had vast MSM cover. They’ve coordinated the CBS/NBC/ABC news shows with the ‘comedy programs’ like SNL, Late Show, Daily Show, to come up with talking points.

The strategy here is to create the two-person race illusion. Ben Carson is the anti-Trump vote. Get all those votes together and the GOPe can control Carson.

Carson is a bit naive politically and he needs the GOPe money. They also think blacks will cross over and vote for Carson - skin over party.

The Democrats are so weak this time out, it really is going to take a lot to lose this election.

But the GOPe is always up for that task, it seems.

Boy oh boy...the establishment types are pushing Ben hard!

Yep. Jeb may not have gone under the bus yet, but he's clinging to the front bumper for dear life.

"Carson is the last refuge for the people that are abandoning Bush…"

You're probably correct, but it's interesting that 'support' would go to Carson, and not Carly. She's closer to GOPe policies, and is way better versed on the subjects than Carson.

Leads me to believe the numbers are being manipulated to shift Trump support towards the "kinder gentler" Carson, who would later be easier to dispatch than Carly.

Carson wants illegals made guest workers, says he would have arrested the 300 lb giant Michael Brown not shoot him (if that had been possible it would have been done), wants to decide who can own what guns by where they live and this is who should be President??

‘but [Carson] is afraid of making cultural judgements’

Not really. He thinks Zimmerman should have been charged with manslaughter for defending himself in a life threatening situation. He also thinks Michael Brown should have been arrested, not killed. (Just as if, under the circumstances, that was a viable option.)

Carson is good at making making cultural judgements. Almost as good as Obama.

Many are projecting what they want Carson to be, while ignoring what he is, what he has said, the positions he has taken and is saying.

Still months to go. I wouldn’t rule out Trump, Carson, Kasich or Walker for Iowa.
