Donald Trump on Kim Davis case: ‘The Supreme Court has ruled’
Washington Times ^ | 09/04/2015 | David Sherfinski

Posted on 09/04/2015 5:12:31 AM PDT by GIdget2004

Bottom line, host Joe Scarborough said, is that if Supreme Court makes a decision, that’s the law of land, right?

“You have to go with it,” Mr. Trump said. “The decision’s been made, and that is the law of the land.”

“She can take a pass and let somebody else in the office do it in terms of religious, so you know, it’s a very … tough situation, but we are a nation, as I said yesterday, we’re a nation of laws,” he said. “And I was talking about borders and I was talking about other things, but you know, it applies to this, also, and the Supreme Court has ruled."

I knew GoneSalt and ballearthout were trolls the day they signed up. Both attacked me because I was a Cruz supporter, using vicious gutter language unbecoming a Freeper. I was told to let it go as these things happen during political season. The best predictor of future behavior is past behavior and I knew they would keep posting the same way and they did. I didn’t engage them after I was told to let it go.

Well, they continued to troll themselves over and over and now they are finally gone. They should have been struck down that first time.

“No presidential candidate can be an expert on everything, but the intelligent ones know enough to hire advisers. He should have had a statement ready on Kim Davis BEFORE his press conference yesterday, but he seems to think a promise to build a wall will be enough.”

He’s talked with Jeff Sessions on illegal immigration and Steve Forbes and Art Laffer on taxes. Pretty good start. I’m sure he’ll come out with something more definitive on this.

IF this is your #1 issue, then I guess it’s a problem. Mine is illegals, always has been. Trump is still my choice- he’s way ahead of the others on this, even Cruz.

“- That people who own homes must be compensated before being deported, because they probably will rule that way.”

Where do you get that from? They can sell the house, just like everyone else that moves.

Isn’t it a bigger issue? The 2nd amendment vs the SC ruling. I would think an amendment would trump a ruling.

Trump has a big problem if he keeps giving quick answers to questions without being careful about how he words them. Words are cold when they’re put in print.

Trump said in the last couple months that he might talk to the GOP about it`s platform regarding exceptions regarding abortion

I think it is going to be very difficult to prevail with a religious liberty argument. She wasn’t conscripted, she was elected to perform an administrative duty which by necessity must be performed impartially, this was understood when the job was accepted, as well it should be. A far better argument, both tactically as well as more justifiably, is to reject the illegal order of the court which no one is bound to obey. IANAL, but that’s the way I see it.

The thing is ? We got many here on Free Republic saying that issues like gay marriage and abortion does not matter, that immigration is more important.

Chapter 355 of the Kentucky Code has a severability clause: http://www.lrc.ky.gov/statutes/chapter.aspx?id=39966

Chapter 402 (Marriage) does not: http://www.lrc.ky.gov/statutes/chapter.aspx?id=39205

Do you think Roberts knew he was writing the dissent or do you think he thought he was writing the majority opinion?

there is no law authorizing the clerk to issue marriage licenses in that state. Until the legislative body passes a new law shes IS following the law by issuing no marriage licenses at all

Ha, that's been my argument too!

Even if there were a severability clause the Supreme Court effectively overturned the entire Kentucky Marriage system because Kentucky currently has no definition of Marriage.

402.005 Definition of marriage.

As used and recognized in the law of the Commonwealth, "marriage" refers only to the civil status, condition, or relation of one (1) man and one (1) woman united in law for life, for the discharge to each other and the community of the duties legally incumbent upon those whose association is founded on the distinction of sex.

Effective: July 15, 1998

History: Created 1998 Ky. Acts ch. 258, sec. 4, effective July 15, 1998.

KENTUCKY CANNOT ISSUE ANY MARRIAGE LICENSES UNLESS AND UNTIL THEY COME UP WITH A DEFINITION OF MARRIAGE.

SECTION 402.005 NO LONGER EXISTS.

SINCE THERE IS NOW NO DEFINITION OF THE TERM "MARRIAGE" THERE IS NO ABILITY OF ANYONE IN KENTUCKY TO ISSUE A "MARRIAGE" LICENSE.

so in this case you want Trump to reverse himself and back down? He usually doesn’t do that. Plus he does not seem to be much of a champion on conservative social issues.

Excellent catch, brother. You should consider taking up law some day.

My question to you this time is more basic. Do Christians have a right to live their faith in America, or do they just have freedom of worship?

I agree. He hasn't answered. It's a pretty basic question.

“Trump is being exposed for who he is: a shallow man with a big ego and a big mouth, who doesn’t understand the Constitution. This is not a man to rely on.”

True enough. Unfortunately, too many of our fellows are looking for an American Putin, a tough-talking strongman.

Perhaps the more they listen to his talk, the more they’re realize that he’s not to be trusted.
