"I'm very confused. I thought this was to force all States to recognize same sex marriages in every State. But it did not take the right of any State to not or perform same sex marriage. Am I wrong."

You are wrong. The court found that same-sex marriage is a Constitutionally protected right that all States must observe.

If they legalize polygamist bestiality marriage - ranchers could claim all of their livestock as dependents.

The problem is, after a little hesitation, the left will jump on board.

Brigham Young began agitating for statehood for ‘Deseret’ right after Mexico ceded the area after the Mexican War in 1848. Sen Stephen A. Douglas (of Lincoln debate fame) represented Mormon interests.

Then let them. Their whole idiotic social construct will collapse very quickly.

If you go to most countries where "same-sex marriages" have been legalized, you'll find that fewer and fewer people get married at all. The whole idea of a legalistic relationship loses its appeal very quickly, and this will probably be the case among homosexuals more than anyone else.

No, the court could have ruled more narrowly to require recognition of SS marriage in all states. Instead they ruled to require all states to perform SS marriages.

So he based his decision on emotion and feeling good,, instead to hell with the law and why not?

The feds have been ignoring their own laws like immigration, drugs etc.

States rights have gone right out of the window and it is time for states to fight back and ignore the federal laws.

The ultimate end can only be polygamous pedophilia legalized and encouraged by the state. I think I’ll go projectile vomit now. This is Islamic in structure.

There was a case where marines said they were married to the same sex in order to get married quarters.

Anyone can say they’re married now and if any liberal, liberatarian or even people at work, neighbors say this decision is good then let them know and ask them about polygamy.

Time to legalize prostitution and heroin use...who would dare set a boundary in these (anything goes) times?

Odd that polygamy wasn’t first, ahead of homosexuality. Seems a whole lot more people are interested in trying ( or are practicing) plural (heterosexual) mating - than they are homosexual intercourse. And its possible to argue that the Biblical instruction or teaching against homosexual intercourse was set forth more vigorously than that dealing with polygamy. But yes, it’s likely we will witness a move in favor of legalizing polygamy now.

Time to legalize prostitution and heroin use

The largest effect of criminalizing them has been to create a monopoly, and its attendant profits, for criminals.

A lot of men had multiple wives in the Old testament. So there is at least there is some Biblical background to it.

I am not saying I support it. One wife is enough to keep up with. ;)

He really said that?

And logic points out that when a lonely polygamist calls out, 30 angry women scream back at him.

Yes. Understood. As for polygamy, the old adage comes to mind that people should be careful what they wish for because they just may get it. Ha!

1852, Utah Territory, Federal Territorial officials were in constant conflict with the Mormon’s parallel government and polygamy was part of it. There were grumblings that the Mormons were in rebellion.

Democrats had been advocating popular sovereignty/state’s rights in the long running argument over whether slavery could expand into the territories.

Republicans, advocating a powerful centralized government, in 1856 argued that popular sovereignty was protecting polygamy. This proved to be a potent political weapon.

Buchanan, taking office in 1857, sent an Army detachment to support his new Territorial governor and enforce the laws. The Mormons feared attack and prepared for war. The country was blundering into the Utah War.

There was opposition in Congress to Buchanan sending troops against the Mormons, ironically including from a Pennsylvania Senator who would four years later become Lincoln’s Secretary of War.

The Utah War/Mormon War eventually petered out into a negotiated settlement with little bloodshed. So little most people have never heard of it. But the arguments used by the sides involved makes for eerie reading knowing that the next President would use rationale similar to Buchanan and would hurl us into a war that still echos today.
