As the New York Times reports this morning, not a single Republican presidential candidate has the courage to tell South Carolina to stop flying the Confederate battle flag from its state capitol. It is a bit late for that, to be sure; public display of any kind of the symbol of the slaveholders’ rebellion should have been banned after the Union victory in 1865. Removing the Confederate flag from the grounds of South Carolina’s seat of government has become an African-American cause in the wake of last week’s Charleston church massacre. It may be incommensurate with the crime, but black Americans are entirely justified in their rancor against official sanction of a symbol of slavery.
On moral grounds I sympathize with the African-American view, but there is an even more urgent reason to rip down the Confederate flag. Our refusal to look squarely at the evil character of the American Confederacy turned us into idiots. It may be a bit late to remedy this national lapse in mental capacity, but one has to start somewhere.

Don’t kid yourself, what they want to ban is the American flag, the Stars and Stripes. Convincing people to ban the Confederate Flag is just the route they are taking. Once they get the Confederate Flag banned, they will then use the same arguments to get the American Flag banned. After that, they will go after the Star Spangled banner. They want to ban every iota of the Heritage of the United States of America.

That’s the ultimate point. Making the Republicans buy into their ridiculous and false memes, and react with cowering, groveling prostrations, which further gives absolution to the Left’s contentions. It’s disgusting beyond words, witnessing the sheer cowardice of the GOP, along with their readiness to lean over and kiss the boots of these PC Nazis.
The GOP is like the seedy, pathetic drunk in western movies, who is forced to dance before the badmen as they shoot at his feet, which he does so willingly, with the hope they’ll eventually all laugh and get their jollies, pat him on the head, and good-naturedly serve up a full shot-glass, which he’ll gladly slurp up.

For one thing, maybe some of us are more proud of the fact that we are residents of a state that once belonged to the Confederacy, than we are at being residents of the current demented idiocy that is known as the United States.
Unfortunately, the author clearly demonstrates that America has become a nation in which, if sufficient numbers of demented a-holes squawk loudly enough, everyone pees themselves.
It’s not an official flag of the state. It is a flag of an institution that hasn’t existed for 150 years.

Agreed. Every single thing they do is chipping away to erase America from history, erase it from memory, from the minds of the young, from consciousness. They are determined to build their idiotic “utopia”, their Tower of Babel, and the consequences are already seemingly irreparable. Third world pit of darkness on the way. And the morons will cheer all the way there.
The Confederate Battle Flag is not the Stars and Bars.
The Stars and Bars is the nickname of the official flag of the CSA.
It flies at Arlington Cemetery.
