The Confederate battle flag is what makes America stupid
PJ Media ^ | June 22, 2015 | David P. Goldman aka Spengler

As the New York Times reports this morning, not a single Republican presidential candidate has the courage to tell South Carolina to stop flying the Confederate battle flag from its state capitol. It is a bit late for that, to be sure; public display of any kind of the symbol of the slaveholders’ rebellion should have been banned after the Union victory in 1865. Removing the Confederate flag from the grounds of South Carolina’s seat of government has become an African-American cause in the wake of last week’s Charleston church massacre. It may be incommensurate with the crime, but black Americans are entirely justified in their rancor against official sanction of a symbol of slavery.

On moral grounds I sympathize with the African-American view, but there is an even more urgent reason to rip down the Confederate flag. Our refusal to look squarely at the evil character of the American Confederacy turned us into idiots. It may be a bit late to remedy this national lapse in mental capacity, but one has to start somewhere.

I love all these writers, thinkers and talkers who lecture us about the evils of the First Amendment and free expression.

I guess those things are only reserved people who make child porn and call for Jihad. :)

The simple truth is that the Confederate flag shouldn’t fly on government property. If private entities want to fly it, fine.

Why the focus on a flag?

Because it's a visible scapegoat that will allow one side to claim victory and the other side to show their concern while doing nothing to address the root problem. It's the perfect political solution.

Once again we see the 1st Amendment does not apply to those who cross the Times or other leftist radicals. Did they ever call for removing the US flag after Columbine or Newtown?

Never in my life have I heard soo much crap about what makes things stupid. How about the dumbing down of our Children and our Colleges becoming Socialist’s brain washing clinics. That flag has been there and all this crap has started as soon as the raced baiting assclown took office.

The Stars and Bars have been flying over slave-free states for 150 years, the Stars and Stripes for 155 years.

This is a reason for banning the Stars and Bars?

“The simple truth is that the Confederate flag shouldn’t fly on government property.”

That may be your simple truth, but it is not for multitudes.

The confederate battle flag was brought back to South Carolina by democrat Fritz Hollings as a way of giving the finger to Martin Luther King Jr.

The ‘press’ is too stupid or vile to mention this uncomfortable fact because they work for the DNC...(second hand via ‘leaks’ from Democrat war rooms.)

Also, by watching Republicans run sweating to the microphones, it tells Libs were to push forward next. If they’re so quick to ban the flag, where will they go next? Confederate monuments which decorate the South? Stone Mountain? Mt. Vernon? Monticello?

Technology helped the North get rid of its slaves first - and ALL the North had slaves. But it was way harder to effectively technologize the fields of the South. Reapers, harvesters and combines finally gave technological parity to the the South with the industrial North, and enabled economic survival without slaves.

The slave issue was, of course, huge. But it was still a cover for the Civil War. That war was about the federalization of the country. Lincoln freed no slaves - he actually acknowledged them as federal property under the 14th Amendment. Then he went on to give all Americans the same “freedom,” and most people are clueless as to this status even today.

If more conservatives studied this issue, the Right would finally find the actual legal leverage it needs to stop the Left. Because EVERYTHING the Left does is through 14th Amendment status - all of it.

Ah, but that one is safe because Americans are so stupid these days, that they will think that's one of those decorative holiday flags they sell at a craft store.

If they keep banning these “symbols of racism”, sooner or later there will be nothing to point to but themselves when these things occur.

Following that theme, if we storm into ISIS country and remove all their black ISIS flags, there will be no more violence in the Middle East.

Taking away the freedom of expression of beliefs is not going to change those beliefs, in many cases it will further inferior ate them.

This reactionary call to ban the flag is just the left taking advantage of the opening of a portal created by a nut job, stewed on drugs, who decided to shoot some people. He didn’t just stroll by the Capitol building one day, see the flag, and say, “oh, I think I’ll become a racist today and shoot up a black church!”.

Things that individuals do, are solely the decision of that individual.
