In this situation, a fist-sized rock would not have carried enough force to penetrate completely through what is essentially bullet-proof glass. That’s why the BS is taking it one step farther and calling it a ‘projectile’. Maybe it was a Tea Partyer with a potato cannon...
Ok so a rock or some sort of projectile hit the glass but how does that speed up the train from 50 to 106 around the curve.
Perhaps, if I get caught speeding. I can always tell the officer that a rock hit my windshield, or I ran over something. I doubt that explanation would work. =)
Sure we would. We would be told he was reading his Bible and cleaning his weapon while on duty, and that is what caused the accident.
Is the MSM leading up to some sort of speculation along the lines of, “Train accident may have been caused by a rock thrown by an anti-government, Tea Party wacko who opposes Amtrak”?
Exactly. Hurling rocks at a multi-ton steel behemoth. Seriously. If the conductor was a Republican, we won’t hear the end of it. If the leftards wanted equality, out the faggot. Don’t tell me fudgers are perfect and not “equal” to responsibility.
Several years ago I saw a strange truck stopped down on the RR tracks. After they left, I went down and found where they had rolled a bunch of big rocks on to the tracks.
I removed the rocks, called the police and gave them a description of the truck. I never heard any more about it.
MSNBC. Monday morning.
Your pic shows front-end damage other than the damage to the windows, which suggests the engine derailed and hit something like a utility pole or a sign.
.
Rocks small enough to throw don’t derail Trains nor make them speed up.
.
.
You are correct; this is a dishonest article.
.
.
It couldn’t have been a rock; there is severe damage to the steel frame next to the broken window.
.
To outrun the rock??????
.
The Trayvon of Amtrack engineers.
.
Yep, lots of damage. Most damage appears to be along the front right side of the engine. Almost like a sideswipe impact.
LOL
When the rock hit him in the temple, he stepped down hard on the gas pedal by accident.
You throw rocks at a moving vehicle you should be tried found guilty and jailed. But how does getting hit by a rock increase speed to 106 mph? My understanding is that the throttle is a dead man. So if the engineer got dinged he held onto the throttle while he was dinging. Possible I guess but highly improbable.
Wouldn’t the locomotive had some sort of “deadman’s switch” device, especially since it seems there was no fireman in the cab with the engineer?
A few years ago for business I used to have to fly fairly regularly on a two-engine turboprop commuter airplane. The passengers sat right behind the pilot and copilot and could see them flying the plane. One thing I noticed was that on takeoff, as the pilot was advancing the throttles (which were above and in front of the pilot/copilot—you had to reach up to move them), the co-pilot always placed his hand on top of the pilot’s and kept it there until the plane took off and leveled off. I always have assumed that was a safety precaution for the one-in-a-million chance that the pilot would have a heart attack during take off.
