Vanity Fair estimated the cost of the Iraq War to be $3 trillion. Iran has a population that is more than double the population of Iraq, and is much richer than Iraq was in 2003.
A War with Iran will cost over 6 trillion dollars, without even factoring inflation since 2003. When inflation is factored in, that would add about $10 trillion dollars to the deficit.
Can America afford the $10 trillion it will take to wage war and occupy Iran?
The number one trending tag on Twitter right now, and top 10 for the last two days, is #GOPWantsWar
The meme being that by opposing Obama’s Iran deal, the EVIL GOP wants to go to war with Iran.
Hummmm..... Nice
Beat me to it!
And they are off-the-shelf, as it were. Already paid for.
I'll throw in a few bucks........
If Reagan felt that way we would have never broken the USSR's back.
0bama has shifted military resources from the military to the build up the police state. These resources are being directed to his (and the NWO) real enemy; vets, gun owners, conservatives, libertarians, Christians.
0bama wants a war abroad so he can declare war on his enemies at home.
I don’t take my war planning estimates from a liberal rag like Vanity Unfair. Might as well take financial advice from People magazine.
We are not going to war with Iran.
Iran is a huge country, about the size of Texas. It is will defending and mountainous.
While the people of Iran are open to the west, they will fight like hell if they are being invaded.
Anyway, we do not have the strength to take on Iran. We cannot operate on two fronts anymore. The supply lines would kill us.
Iran would attack Israel first.
There would not be much Iran left for us to deal with.
Why is everyone on Free Republic so excited about going to war. Perhaps you all need to go to the local VA hospital to see how we wage war now.
Iran is not a threat to us. Let the Kingdom and Israel deal with them.
Lets take ten or twelve years without invading someone and see how that works out.
The article assumes that war is optional.
War is coming like it or not. The only question is if we will be ready.
It wasn’t a war in Iraq, it was a nation building experiment. We could cut a lot of corners.
We already own them, they just need to be launched.
Make sure one hits Mecca on the way though and start to solve all our problems at once.
Could America afford a war with Japan?
Could America afford a war with Germany?
If we wait too long on this Nuclear Bomb issue, it will be too late to answer that question.
All we have to do is drop nuclear bunker busters on all their nuclear facilities. Leave the mess to the Ayatollahs to clean up. About a week of around the clock bombing of all those facilities with follow-up bombing to make sure ... is all that it will take.
We won’t be anywhere near that dollar figure! Probably less than 5% of that figure!
I’m not convinced of the right answer yet. I am convinced that:
(1) Obama will choose the worst possible option, far worse than whatever shockingly stupid and destructive thing we imagine he might do (such as sending them money and technical assistance to fund their nuclear weapons program).
(2) Obama will do everything in his power to stop Israel if Israel tries to actively stop Iran from nuking the West.
As for whether we should attack Iran and then quickly withdraw, I am undecided. I’d rather see someone else do it, but I don’t expect Obama to permit either outcome. What I think doesn’t really matter. I’m commenting more on how we should think than on what we should decide.
You have to restock the shelf ... :-) ...
I think you’re right. We should have learned that Japan’s subjugation and successful rebuilding after WWII was an anomaly. Islamic nations are too far off the mark of Western civilization for postwar nation building to be worth the cost or effort. Iraq and Afghanistan are good examples. Blow ‘em up and come home.
We could occupy Iran once it’s a cinder like we did Japan.
