The war in Iraq was really a war with iran. So we’ve already killed a big part of their army.
Then why did it take a ground invasion and occupation to take care of Saddam Hussein's WMDs?
Where has that worked?
The last time the “populace r(o)se up on its own” in Iran, the Islamic Republic was established and the winners held hostages in our Tehran embassy. Like it or not, the majority in Iran support the Mullahs while the opposition is in pockets around the major cities.
And then Obama ran away.
A few more printing presses cost less than that... then they’ll just print the $10 trillion. EASY!
Personally I like W. Bush but I always felt some of that was because Hussein had tried to assassinate his Dad. Can’t say I’d to it differently in a similar circumstance.
Let the Saudis deal with them first, and then we’ll step in and . . ?
I volunteer to occupy this Persian beauty
What am I talking about, Obama would never do this to Iran, he might to Israel but not Iran, his buddies...
How much would it cost the U.S. economy if New York City was nuked?
Jarrett is Iran’s man in Washington.
The real war is here.
And Bush went to war with a military that had been thoroughly purged of experienced and capable officers by Clinton. After the initial walkover we didn’t do very well until the capable juniors percolated up through the ranks and gravitated toward battlefield command due to their talent. That’s what got us over the hump, not the surge, though that came at the right time and certainly helped. The surge would probably have availed us little had it been done much earlier.
Totally different strategy They wanted to “nation build” Iraq into a civilized peaceful modern society , etc. (We will never know if that’s even possible now that weve absndoned the effort, but if it can be done with a muslim country it sure looks like it would be a more lengthy and expensive proposition than most of us would willingly undertake ). Insofar as sadam’s military threat went, that we effectively eliminated in short order ( and it could have been even shorter had we used Air Force more and ground forces less). There’s no need to repeat the past anyway, just eliminate the Dangerous weapons that could really hurt us — five iranian Islsmonazi nukes could easily kill fifty million Americans — as they’ve repeatedly threatened - eliminate their nukes and new long range ICBMs etc. And let them clean up the rubble.
OH NOES!!! Yinz might have to cut the SNAP and School Lunch programs to afford THAT!
Fight with domestic oil. Take their markets. Send them to the fifteenth century.
We don’t have to go to war with Iran.Iran will go to war with us.As a matter of fact Iran has been at war with us since 1979 when they took hostages at our embassy.
As a result it will be a moot point. We will have to spend whatever it takes to win that war or any war.
Actually, the reason the “Iraq war” cost so much was it was really two wars — the war we went to fight, to topple the Ba’athist government that was flouting the terms of the Gulf War armistice agreement (which incidentally went just as predicted by Rumsfeld’s school which advocated the sufficiency of a light highly mobile force with complete air superiority and justified the media-vilified “Mission Accomplished” banner) and the war we got stuck fighting because no one in Washington understood we were ripping the sticking plaster off the Sunni-Shi’ite fault line and as a result didn’t send the right kind of force to fight until “the Surge” just before Obama threw away the victories in both.
The cost of a war with Iran, is not the cost of boots on the ground, something that is unlikely to happen, it is the economic cost of having the Persian Gulf shut down for years. An eventuality we could blunt by building up domestic production of oil and pipelines to Canada, the exact thing our regime is fighting.
