Ana Marie Cox: Why I’m Coming Out as a Christian
The Daily Beast ^ | February 28, 2015 | Ana Marie Cox

Posted on 03/01/2015 8:43:38 AM PST by EveningStar

Who do I need to prove my faith to—and why should I try? ...

I’m nervous to come out as a Christian because I worry I’m not good enough of one. I’m not scared that non-believers will make me feel an outcast. I’m scared that Christians will ...

Here is why I believe I am a Christian: I believe I have a personal relationship with my Lord and Savior. I believe in the grace offered by the Resurrection. I believe that whatever spiritual rewards I may reap come directly from trying to live the example set by Christ. Whether or not I succeed in living up to that example is primarily between Him and me ...

“Eh, it’s in the Bible somewhere.”

Where?

Ana Marie Cox has been a known quantity for some time: She's first mentioned in paragraph 7.

Thank you n

I must say I do not know what point you are making. It was not clear in your comment.

Re: “Judge not lest ye be judged”.

Why are their four words after “Judge not”.

The comments here would make it seem those last four words are superfluous or meaningless, to be ignored.

You are right about worrying on that score, Ana Marie. Any little misstep (or perceived misstep) on your part will have the Christian-haters all over you.

Probably somewhere in the middle.

***I must say I do not know what point you are making. It was not clear in your comment.***

On the internet it is best to be thorough on all topics. I just included the rest of the story to minimize misunderstanding.

“...lest ye be Judged.” is the Father’s role, not ours. I am just a witness.

Thanks for the post, very interesting to read. It sounds like she has been on a spiritual journey and is starting to see the Light :-) I am happy to read this and hope she continues studying His Word and learning more about the Christian walk. There is such joy and peace of living in obedience and I wish that for her future. Regarding her politics, it sounds as if she is genuinely seeking a relationship with Christ and that can only lead her further to the right.

I pray for her and that others in the progressive media take the same path she is on....

***Where?***

Matthew 7 King James Version (KJV)

7 Judge not, that ye be not judged.

2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother’s eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?

4 Or how wilt thou say to thy brother, Let me pull out the mote out of thine eye; and, behold, a beam is in thine own eye?

5 Thou hypocrite, first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.

6 Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.

7 Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you:

8 For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.

9 Or what man is there of you, whom if his son ask bread, will he give him a stone?

10 Or if he ask a fish, will he give him a serpent?

11 If ye then, being evil, know how to give good gifts unto your children, how much more shall your Father which is in heaven give good things to them that ask him?

12 Therefore all things whatsoever ye would that men should do to you, do ye even so to them: for this is the law and the prophets.

13 Enter ye in at the strait gate: for wide is the gate, and broad is the way, that leadeth to destruction, and many there be which go in thereat:

14 Because strait is the gate, and narrow is the way, which leadeth unto life, and few there be that find it.

15 Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves.

16 Ye shall know them by their fruits. Do men gather grapes of thorns, or figs of thistles?

17 Even so every good tree bringeth forth good fruit; but a corrupt tree bringeth forth evil fruit.

18 A good tree cannot bring forth evil fruit, neither can a corrupt tree bring forth good fruit.

19 Every tree that bringeth not forth good fruit is hewn down, and cast into the fire.

20 Wherefore by their fruits ye shall know them.

21 Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven.

22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:

25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.

26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:

27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.

28 And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine:

29 For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.

“...lest ye be Judged.” is the Father’s role, not ours.”

Thank you. That is clear and makes sense.

My question is: on what do base your assertion that this “is the Father’s role”?

I am not arguing you are wrong or right, just trying to understand the basis for your authoritative statement.

For example, one can ask, based on your assertion above, why Jesus did not say, “judge not lest The Father judge you”?

Thanks for posting the passages of scripture you did.

“...first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.”

How does this passage relate to the topic under discussion where it is asserted we are never to judge?

The full transition takes time for some people.

She didn't declare that she just became a Christian. She is claiming that she is "coming out" as a Christian. That means that her support for Gay Marriage and Abortion is consistent with her "brand" of "Christianity."

She is a pro-abortion, pro-gay marriage "Christian".

I'd rather she had stayed in the closet.

Well, none of us is qualified to critique another’s Christian walk. We each move at different speeds and God is patient with us, regardless of our pace. I am grateful for His infinite patience with me.

Where is the fruit of her “Christianity”?

She doesn’t say when her “Christian Walk” began, but unless it was yesterday morning, I have a feeling that she is nothing but a wolf in sheep’s clothing.

Mainstream churches are now filled to overflowing with “Christians” who are pro-abortion and pro-gay marriage.

By their fruits ye shall know them. So unless this is a very recent “conversion”, my guess is that she is not a Christian. She just plays one on the internet.

Absolutely. I am not defending her behavior or what she believes but I will pray that she is sincere in her walk; and I will leave it at that.

Obama claims to be a Christian.

Do you think he is sincere in his walk?

Do you take him at his word? Or do you think he ought to be judged by his fruits?

***“...first cast out the beam out of thine own eye; and then shalt thou see clearly to cast out the mote out of thy brother’s eye.”

How does this passage relate to the topic under discussion where it is asserted we are never to judge?***

We are to witness. But we are to be clear of vision when we do so. We are not to judge if our brothers in Christ are saved.

Get rid of the logjam that clogs the arteries of fruitful living. Then you can see clearly to teach others.

***6 Give not that which is holy unto the dogs, neither cast ye your pearls before swine, lest they trample them under their feet, and turn again and rend you.***

Who does this passage remind you of?

Today she is “coming out” as a “Christian.”

It doesn't matter what she believes of herself; what matters is what Christ knows of her. I can not understand how any person can support abortion yet assume they know Christ and are in tune with his Spirit.
