WATCH: Iranian cruise missiles blow up life-size replica of American aircraft carrier
The Jerusalem Post ^ | 02/25/2015 | YASSER OKBI / MAARIV HASHAVUA

Commander of Iran's Navy had previously said that Iran could destroy all of America's warships within 50 seconds.

Iran fired hundreds of missiles in a military drill on Wednesday, including two ballistic missiles which blew up an Iranian-built, life-size replica of a US aircraft carrier in the Strait of Hormuz, Iranian and Arab media outlets reported.

The model of the aircraft carrier was completely destroyed by the missiles, according to the reports.

Senior Iranian officials attended the exercise, including Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and Revolutionary Guards commander, Gen. Ali Jafari.

An Iranian military helicopter fired two cruise missiles at the model of the US carrier in the course of the drill.

The commander of Iran's Navy had said last April that Iran had built "a life-size replica of an American aircraft carrier, 202 meters long, in order to destroy it during military maneuvers."

He added that "the Americans, and the entire world, know that the American Navy is one of our targets, and it will take us 50 seconds to destroy every US warship."

Not only that, but don’t you think that the mockup model was built out of wood ?

It was probably a mockup using an old cargo ship or oil tanker as a platform and these don't even come close to the hull thickness or number of watertight compartments that a CVN has. So the video is pointless propaganda.

This being said, Russia and China do possess weapons that could in fact blow a CVN to pieces.

Do you believe you could bring a small boat up against an aircraft carrier in this decade?

Besides, the carrier doesn’t go into port to refuel like the Stark had to do.

It has to go into port sometime. And Yes, I do think it can and that it will happen.

It has happened before. The Housatonic, H.M.S. Queen Elizabeth, you name it. Set 80 Years apart and yet both large and powerful ships were put out of action by Explosives next to the Hull. Carried by a simple Submarine.

Capital ships are Vulnerable.

Lessons from History.

We cannot dismiss the Iranians just because we think we surpass them in Technology.

Two Simple Torpedoes Sank the Hungarian Battleship Szent István.

What do you think 25 low flying "Dumb" Exocet Missiles could o?

By the way, your second photo is from May 17th, 1987 when two Exocet anti-ship missiles fired from an Iraqi Mirage F1 hit the USS Stark, not an equivalent of a “barrel bomb”.

Not really comparable to a street corner IED.

Carriers have more defense and detection surrounding them than that mounted on the deck. It is the reason we have carriers is the planes in the air.

I see this video as little more than Iran’s fake stealth and drones. They have a real missile defense. But to offer up the USS Arizona as proof of the threat is just silly.

Did you read anything I wrong about The Husatnoic and H.M.S. Queen Elizabeth?

Separated by 80 years but put out of action in the same way.

The Japanese Couldn't Sink our Battleships either.

They were inferior in practically every way.

And they still caught us with our pants down and thousands of our men died for it.

When the Warning signs were all there.

And Besides, for the Technology at the Time, no one thought Aircraft could sink a Battleship underway at sea.

But they did.

I guess I'm more focused on technologies past WWII. I guess the Arizona looks modern when you want to bring in an 1864 attack as proof of the threat.

Have a great day.

I resent you calling the Mullahs camel humpers. While there are some camels in Iran, the Mullahs mostly hump sheep and goats.

Okay Fine.

But when some Iranian Diesel sub pops an Arleigh Burke or some Frogman Seriously Damages a Carrier in Port.

Our Men will pay the price of this arrogance, as usual.

What's past is prologue

So we’re in negotiating with Iran over a nuke deal and they make a a video about sinking a CVN?

I guess they can say they warned us.

I wonder if the names of the Iranian negotiators are Kurusu and Nomura?

When you combine incompetent, wrongheaded civilian leadership that after six years has spawned toady military senior officers, it is a recipe for disaster for the country but especially for the common enlisted personnel. Those ships are so vulnerable in the Persian Gulf that the Israelis are no doubt worried that they will be blamed for their destruction when they take definitive action against the Iranian nuclear threat.
