WATCH: Iranian cruise missiles blow up life-size replica of American aircraft carrier
The Jerusalem Post ^ | 02/25/2015 | YASSER OKBI / MAARIV HASHAVUA

Commander of Iran's Navy had previously said that Iran could destroy all of America's warships within 50 seconds.

Iran fired hundreds of missiles in a military drill on Wednesday, including two ballistic missiles which blew up an Iranian-built, life-size replica of a US aircraft carrier in the Strait of Hormuz, Iranian and Arab media outlets reported.

The model of the aircraft carrier was completely destroyed by the missiles, according to the reports.

Senior Iranian officials attended the exercise, including Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and Revolutionary Guards commander, Gen. Ali Jafari.

An Iranian military helicopter fired two cruise missiles at the model of the US carrier in the course of the drill.

The commander of Iran's Navy had said last April that Iran had built "a life-size replica of an American aircraft carrier, 202 meters long, in order to destroy it during military maneuvers."

He added that "the Americans, and the entire world, know that the American Navy is one of our targets, and it will take us 50 seconds to destroy every US warship."

Sorry. Naval units are vulnerable, just not to these particular Worthy Oriental Gentlemen. But the CHICOM and the Russkis have large numbers of quite effective stand-off anti-ship missiles, including nukes. IMNVHO, we can expect them to try and overwhelm a carrier's defenses.

In the event of hostilities, we will lose important units. They will lose everything. BTW, the Phalanx is an effective close-in weapon of last resort, but if 5 or 6 missiles are coming in from different headings ..... who knows?

Remember the COMBLOC maxim: "Quantity has a Quality all its own!" I know we take this seriously. I just hope Pentagon planners, with their 25 available F-22s, take it the same way.

Perhaps the military should show the aftermath of Bikini atoll after the castle bravo test.

I’m not dismissing it, I’m just offering an opinion on the video.

Since I work for the Navy as an evil contractor, I have a fair amount of insight into the amount of calories and cash that get assigned to Iran’s swarming boat attack concept as well as the high speed land based missiles not shown in the video.

The video’s a joke, the tactics and some of the systems not shown are not.

Didn't we think the Japanese would never attack Pearl Harbor. That kind of thinking can get people killed.

Yep!

The Japanese could never attack Pear Harbor.

It is only 45 feet deep! And Torpedoes require at depth of over 100 feet.

The Fleet is safe there!

Also, The U.S.S. Hornet was lost to the Japanese is like manner too

Then it is hoped that you would agree that given the strategic realities in the Gulf, the disabling politicization of military high command, and the abysmal policies and leadership of Obama, that those ships and the sailors on them should be withdrawn from the Gulf.

At the moment and for the immediate future (2 - 5 years), I do not see that as necessary.

However, if the US government does keep politicizing command responsibilities and positions, keeps going for big & shinny vs. small and significant, then you are right.

We will not be able to stay since the countries we call allies will jump ship and kick us out... and rightly so.

Secretary of State John Kerry was on the scene and conducted negotiations with the Iranians during their operation.

Notable & Quotable: Providing for the Common Defense?

In the last three years, the Army’s strength has been cut by nearly 100,000 soldiers. The Navy’s contingency response force is at one-third the level of what it should be.

Don’t you think detection and defense systems have advanced a bit in +7 decades?

Maybe we should create a scale model of Tehran and exhibit the power of an air wing

Lest we forget... the greatest proponent of Appeasement for the Munich Pact to give Sudetenland to Hitler/nazis...WAS.... FDR. FDR is well documented trying very hard to take credit for the agreement before Chamberlain stepped out of the plane with the “piece of paper”. Really quite something, and one more point about FDF dem machine politics and marxist/socialists— they LIKE marxist/socialists and will appease them to advance their OWN agenda. So, obamaumao supports letting Iran have nukes.

Oh, and another commonality— hatred of Jews. The State Dept. under FDR riddled with elitist hahvaahd, yale, princhton private club anti-Semites. Read— “In the Garden of the Beasts” about FDRs first ambassador to Germany— a nincompoop who tried to fight the anti-semites of State, and was fired for pointing this out to FDR.
Socialists love socialism and govt. dependence. FDR dragged us into WWII, to escape his obvious failures domestically with the Great Depression. Same as now— history RHYMES.

Yes, but so has the Missile Technology.

Besides, every heard of Barrel Bombs? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Barrel_bomb

They can kill you just as dead as $1 Million Dollar Tomahawk Missiles.

Simplest is always the best and everything that is old is new again.

My guess would not put Iran a full 7 decades advanced from that point.

Attacking an aircraft carrier is a little more complicated than a street corner.
