Five reasons Mary Landrieu lost
The Hill ^ | 6 Dec 14 | Jonathan Easley

Sen. Mary Landrieu’s (D-La.) luck ran out Saturday night.

The Democrat’s colleagues talk about her as a fighter who has won tough runoff elections in red Louisiana before, even if she was the underdog against Rep. Bill Cassidy (R-La.). But in 2014, a host of factors conspired to keep her from ultimately falling short for a fourth term.

Collapse among white voters

Landrieu’s support among black voters in Louisiana is nearly universal, but strategists in the state wondered if there were enough of them to counteract Cassidy’s huge lead among white voters.

There were not.

Landrieu’s percentage of the black vote was in the high 90s on Nov. 4, but Cassidy took more than 80 percent of the white vote.

Democrats, particularly those in the South, have suffered a complete collapse among white voters. Landrieu was the last white Democrat from the Deep South in the Senate, and none remain in the House.

Absolutely - we can’t trade Democrats for Democrat-lite.

The only smart thing the Republicans did this last election cycle (assuming it was purposeful, not ineptitude) was to remain largely silent and let the Obama Democrats defeat themselves. They never gave the leftist media the sound-bites that would reverse the Dem’s fortunes.

The mainstream media is certainly worthy of Soviet Russia or East Germany!

The black voters did not turn out. They deserted the democrat.

80% of a small crowd is a smaller crowd

What were the final result??
How big of a Whopping did Cassidy lay on the Progressives?

This is why the dinosaur news media is becoming rapidly outdated. They ignore the news, but thanks to the ability to do original-source research and disseminate online, it gets out anyways. And people start asking why the news wasn't covered.

Anyways, according to the LA Secretary of State's office, the split was 56-44. So 12 points. A landslide victory, but not the crushing defeat (20+ points) some were predicting. That was the result of 43% turnout ... I'm guessing that Mary's last minute desperation plays to her base worked somewhat.

“If Sen. David Vitter (R-La.) runs for governor, and Landrieu has the appetite for another campaign, she may find more favorable political winds in 2016.”

Sometimes, pundits are the most clueless people on earth. If only conservatives had only half their fighting spirit...

The pundit is probably just advancing Mary's "I'm not done" line.

IMO the reason for those last-minute, really over-the-top desperation tactics was to preserve Mary's future political viability in the face of an inevitable loss. If she'd been blown out by 20-24 points she'd be dead-dead-dead from a political perspective.

She lost by half that, 12 points. Still a landslide lost, but probably right on the cusp of having the credibility to mount a comeback bid in 2016.

Because she’s a lying, sniveling, hypocritical, obamacareless, communist leech? Yes... that’s five things... or six.

Democrats are becoming the party of black people and first generation illegals.

In short, if you want to live in a black ‘community’ you’re a democrat. Everyone else is jumping ship.

They were smart enough to figure out that she was actually dead set against the Keystone XL pipeline, and of course there was this:

Actually, nothing kept her from "falling short." She did, in fact, fall short of victory. Very short of it.

I would agree with the bubble analogy. If she’d owned property in Louisiana...less issues. If she’d come back to the state every month for four days and actually listened to the locals...less issues. If she’d found issues to support people....not Democrats or Republicans...but actual real people...then there would have been less issues.

In the end, she was a fake political figure....just sleeping and living up in DC, and there just to vote “Democrat” every single time a bill came up. She didn’t represent the state...she just had a full-time job as a actress, pretending to be a political figure.

Maness was the real conservative.

Once again we had to relinquish control to the candidate the GOP-e wanted!

I’d rather have Maness than someone who is going to go along with Mitch McConnell and the president and pass amnesty.
