The military is taking steps to prepare women for combat roles in 2016.
The Marine Corps announced that it would give young female lieutenants who wash out of the grueling Infantry Officer Course a second shot, same as their male counterparts.
The Army is conducting a study to test just how fit a soldier has to be to engage in combat. The study involves 60 women and 100 men.
CBS News reported on both developments last week.
The Marine Corps announcement came after Marine 2nd Lt. Sage Santangelo took the Infantry Officer Court and wrote about her experience last month in an op-ed in The Washington Post. She didnt make it past the first day and blamed the Marine Corps for a dual standard that sets up women to flunk the course.
Fifteen young women Marines have taken the course. All washed out and all but one washed out on the first day.
She wrote that male officers could retake the course if they failed, but that women could not.
The commandant of the Marine Corps ordered the change after he read her op-ed.
"I'm very humbled that he would consider my opinions and my thoughts," Santangelo, 24, told CBS. "I'm hopeful that it will help others, and I'm glad to see that he's doing that."
The Marines invited female officers to take the Infantry Officer Course in 2012. The 13-week course tests the mettle of potential infantry officers.

LOL, thanks for that slippery response, it verifies the truth of post 65.
Thanks for showing what a persistent liar you are, with that post.
Were they alive today, they would argue vehemently against this move. Neither of them had been retired long when they began admitting women to West Point, and they both thought that was a bad idea.
And why do you think that is? And why do others, innocent bystanders, call you troll?
Think about it.
At first, I thought it said they were preparing women to shoot American civilians.
You got this covered, Sir. Semper Fi from a proud Dad of a mustang 2nd Lt who will commence TBS in June.
They could pull together a lesbian squad for that purpose, methinks.
It is a form of insanity to think that women belong in the military in any large numbers.
There used to be a 2% maximum limit, for a reason.
Joey Buttafuoco vs “Chyna”.
46 year old fat guy against 32 year old super woman.

Is that cleavage...or hair on her chest?
Training costs money. They don't just drop people on a whim. I don't know their exact procedures for granting a reevaluation ( second shot ) but I'm pretty sure the trainers had to cover themselves to ten decimal places when deciding not to allow the women another go. Not everyone who wants another chance gets it.
I'm also sure that word may have come down from on high that they didn't want to interfere with their decisions, but if it came down to a flip a coin situation where a woman may or may not get another chance, flip it her favor.
Back when I was in my 20s, I practiced and practiced until I was able to do one pullup. Once I met what was apparently my life goal regarding pullups, I never did another one. I practice now, but still have not successfully done another pullup.
That is probably why they want to do it.
I believe that is why they are studying the actual requirements for infantry.
“CBS said commanders acknowledge many women won’t meet the new standards, but stricter testing will also disqualify some men from jobs they would have gotten automatically in the past.
Jackson says it could be a surprise for some men.”
Fact of the matter is that the Commandant was in on this from the get go - including her bypassing the chain of command and publishing her gripe in the WaPo
The park was in a borderline dangerous neighborhood. In that situation the Chicago Park District would assign a policeman as the Park Supervisor. Unbeknownst to the Rookies the Park Supervisor told me 1) because of the gang bangers I could close the pool anytime I determined that the situation called for it and 2) he wanted me to start up a swim team. In response to the Park Supervisor, I picked out kids that morning during the 1st free swim who I thought were “leaders” in the neighborhood and good swimmers.
With the Rookies standing next to me I chose these kids to judge the race and determine the winner. They got a bunch of other neighborhood kids together to see which lifeguard would win the Head Guard status. It was a 50 yard sprint. One of the kids (a 16 year old boy) started the race. I paced the big strong guys the 1st length. Then I kicked ass and was out of the water before the Rookies finished the race. I built up a lot of street cred in those 30 seconds and the Rookies lost all theirs because a girl beat their asses bad. Boys/men can be really stupid. Just sayin.
I know some Crossfit level women who can more than withstand the rigors of Quantico.
As long as the steroids are provided I guess it’s ok.
That is bizarre since pullups are major part of the Crossfit regime and some women do over 100.
They don’t do “pull ups” .. they do “swing ups” When I did the PFT we had someone stand in front of the pullup bars with arm out and if you swayed to much they didn’t count.
If you want to make a case for women in “combat” then get the women to compete in MMA cage fight by body weight and see what happens. I had a “judo” “self defense” instructor yap about how she could defend herself and kick a guys ass. It ended with me on restriction, her with a bloody nose, almost choked out and having an anxiety attack. It was PATHETIC..... and funny.
Yes, I doubt they would have any trouble shooting civilians, especially heterosexual males.
Nope - tats
