Training costs money. They don't just drop people on a whim. I don't know their exact procedures for granting a reevaluation ( second shot ) but I'm pretty sure the trainers had to cover themselves to ten decimal places when deciding not to allow the women another go. Not everyone who wants another chance gets it.

I'm also sure that word may have come down from on high that they didn't want to interfere with their decisions, but if it came down to a flip a coin situation where a woman may or may not get another chance, flip it her favor.

Fact of the matter is that the Commandant was in on this from the get go - including her bypassing the chain of command and publishing her gripe in the WaPo
