Carney's Red Art
American Thinker ^ | April 13, 2014 | Thomas Lifson

Now that we know that Presidential spokesman Jay Carney and his wife, ABC correspondent Claire Shipman decorate their house with Soviet art, it is time to take a look at exactly which messages the DC power couple choose to surround themselves and their children with.

First, take a look at the photograph provided by the Washingtonian Magazine, and annotated by The Week:

Now, let’s focus on the poster on the right...

Just read the piece from “Michelle Obama’s Mirror,” and the thought occurs to me those posters are there on purpose, as an “In yo face, Chump!” gesture, designed to infuriate people. Obastard does the “in yo face” crap every day with the way he trash talks Republicans. (As an aside, I don’t really understand why he feels the need to do that, the GOPe gives him everything he wants anyway.)

The messages in the posters are not “unintentional,” they are there for a reason...to pi$$ us off.

Both posters appear to be from the Stalin era.

One is from the Russian Civil War, the other from WWII. That was indeed the Stalin era, but remember, we and they were on the same side in that one.

I agree with the poster who said that these posters might be quirky and even what you might expect for a dorm-room or first post-college pad, but they really aren't the sort of thing you'd have around your place once you own a house and are raising kids.

It's similar to why they have multiple copies of the same books -- if it's not some photoshop era. These people aren't actually living in the house. I'm not saying it's an obvious front or beard situation, but their real lives -- if they have any -- are elsewhere.

I agree.

The best response is to laugh at them, which, in this case, is extremely easy since those are some of the most ridiculous pictures I’ve ever seen.

Somehow they make me think of Sgt. Schultze (sp?) in Hogan’s Heroes!

Meh. I don’t put too much thought into these pictures. This was a puff-piece in The Washingtonian, a bunch born to the Manor if there ever was one. The pictures are “posed,” which is tough work from the photographer’s perspective, and are designed to flatter the subjects.

When you ponder the considerable ego of the subjects, I’m surprised they don’t have Carney urinating into the Niagara River, supplying all the water for The Falls.

I thought the comment upthread about the Gorbachev bobblehead was pretty funny. I thought it was Nikita Khrushchev, and I was looking for a shoe.

Lol!

Remember the Battle of the Flags at press conferences during the election 2000 fiasco?

:-)

I disagree with your final point. If the posters were related to a personal event—such as meeting your spouse in that foreign country—I think they DONT even think about what the posters ARE, but rather the personal memories.

I simply don’t think this is a huge deal. The guy is such a goof, there are so many other reasons to not like him.

And I reiterate, his wife is cute.

The guy is the propaganda minister for the most powerful political figure in the world. Either he has colossally poor judgement, or he's an idiot. In either case, he's disqualified himself from public service.

I didn’t say anything about liking or not liking these people.

I simply think it’s wise to realize the message which you’re sending in such a situation, personal momentos or not.

Suppose they had Third Reich memorabilia on their walls? Please explain to me why red star commie hats, Che posters etc. are chic with the left, and Nazi symbols forbidden. Both systems murdered millions.

We haven’t missed one episode. Let’s face it, the FBI guy is a moron. And he’s counter-intelligence? Reagan is president, not Obama.

We are both amazed how the Soviet ability to feed, heat and clothe their masses is wanting while they have the most amazing wigs and makeup! lol

But they haven’t figured out how to use different vehicles yet? No one has seen the car?

I haven’t got that impression. I don’t recall that many Reagan negative references and if so weren’t they by bureaucrats or the Soviets themselves?

Since we know the actual history I would like the series to stick more to the reality rather than making it yet another “we have to have feelings or know one will watch” type of show.

We know we fed them misinformation on ‘Star Wars’ so when I see the young Navy kid getting seduced (is it always all about sex?)handing over documents I’m hoping the writers are looking ahead and it could be planted info.

I mean, we aren’t totally stupid!
