'Taking Woodstock' set to start Emile Hirsch, Demetri Martin to star in Ang Lee pic By MICHAEL FLEMING Focus Features will begin production late this month on "Taking Woodstock," scripted by James Schamus and to be directed by Ang Lee. Lee's ensemble cast includes Emile Hirsch, Imelda Staunton and Liev Schreiber. Pic is an adaptation of the memoir of Elliot Tiber, who played a role in helping the historic 1969 music fest unfold on his neighbor's farm (Daily Variety, April 22). Less than a month ago, Focus had been thinking about postponing the start of production over concerns that a...

Democratic presidential presumptive Sen. Barack Obama (IL) met with his terrorist supporting fundraiser, Jodie Evans, at a $5 million Hollywood fundraiser held last week at the Dorothy Chandler Pavillion on Tuesday, June 24.In what can only be described as a big middle finger to the veterans and military families who have urged Obama to renounce Evans, Obama met with Evans and was photographed with her at the fundraiser.Evans is co-founder of the leftist anti-American group Code Pink. She and Code Pink have endorsed the terrorists in Iraq and have sent over $600,000 in cash and humanitarian aid to "the other...

Did anyone else notice the "VOTE for CHANGE in 08" bumper sticker in the public restroom scene?
-
Americans are well acquainted with presidential candidate Barack Obama’s legendary pledges to bring “change” to America’s political and social landscape. (For example, see here and here and here.) Indeed, “Change We Can Believe In” is the slogan that adorns the homepage of his campaign website and so many of the placards displayed by the supporters who attend his speaking engagements. His Democratic rival, Hillary Clinton, is also well practiced at issuing calls for change. Her “Change and Experience” ad campaign was but an outgrowth of her 1993 declaration, as First Lady, that “remolding society is one of the great challenges...

I've decided to pay a visit to this MoveOn.Org function. I understand many Arizona democrat lawmakers and even a disturbed, delusional left-wing mental patient talk show host named Jeff Farias will be speaking. I will be correcting some of the factual errors I have a feeling could possibly arise. I welcome any company. This Thursday at Noon, Phoenix State Capitol. 1700 W. Jefferson.

Once content to thump drums and dig deep for chants that rhyme, the “peace” movement’s foothold on the public soapbox has slipped. The peaceniks -- ANSWER, MoveOn.org, Code Pink and the rest -- are in the midst of very public identity crisis. They are facing, for the first time, visible and vocal opposition to both their words and their methods. And it has made them angry….very angry….angry enough to (pause for dramatic effect) use violence as an option!

The City of Berkeley, California HATES the military - all branches and they have absolutely no respect for anyone wearing a military uniform. Mayor Tom Bates and the Berkeley City Council have officially taken that stance. There is no other way to look at it. They can deny it all they want to, but there is no hiding from the public record. Here is the proof. On 29 January 2008, the Berkeley City Council voted to tell the U.S. Marines that its Shattuck Avenue recruiting station "is not welcome in the city, and if recruiters choose to stay, they do...

Berkeley Code Pink Out-Gunned By Move America Forward Pro-Troop Supporters February 12, 2008 - Berkeley, CA - PipeLinenews.org - As the nine member Berkeley City Council prepared to decide the fate of the city’s Marine Corp Recruiting Center, Move America Forward - the nation’s largest grassroots pro-troop organization - took to the streets, confronting a rag-tag group of counter culture lefties, including members of Code Pink, a group much in favor with California Democrat legislators. Starting at 5am conservatives streamed into the notoriously radical city of 100,000, carrying the dual themed but unified message of support for both our...

Historians credit left-wingers with coining "politics of fear" to belittle Sen. Joseph McCarthy's campaign against communists in the U.S. government. The phrase went into hibernation in the 1960s, a torpidity even warmonger-in-waiting Lyndon Johnson's daisy-girl ad couldn't disturb, only to reemerge in the 1980s to denigrate Ronald Reagan's Cold War-winning strategy. These days, the phrase has become the lefties' No. 1 rhetorical trump card against the war against Islamic terrorism. To them, Americans have more to fear from the Bush administration than from the terrorists who seek to bring America to heel. Sen. Barack Obama uses it in almost every...

It’s been a while since I printed hate mail. You’ve seen one “Hey, BusHitler’s Asian whore, go home” letter, you’ve seen ‘em all. But this one’s such a prize-winner, I had to share: from Joe Roppe {snip} Michelle Malkin, I bet we could make your cry for real. Force you to eat a hamburger. I often wonder what will happen when we progressive liberal adults take back our country. The adults will stop wars for oil, Everyone will have health care. Everyone will have a roof over their heads. Everyone will have a voice in our government. Everyone will pay...

Pakistan police today arrested the leader of the feminist U.S. antiwar group Code Pink, who was in Lahore for a student peace rally, according to a spokeswoman for the group. Medea Benjamin, a co-founder of the group, was arrested by plainclothes police with guns drawn and taken to a police station in Lahore, spokeswoman Dana Balicki said. Police also arrested Tighe Barry, a longtime Code Pink activist, who was participating with the student rally outside the Lahore Press Club. The students were protesting the emergency rule imposed Nov. 3 by President Pervez Musharraf. Police told Ms. Benjamin and Mr. Barry...

If Colorado is any barometer, the Republican Party may lose more ground in the 2008 elections. Colorado Republicans took a beating in 2006. In the Governor’s race Democrat Bill Ritter demolished Republican Congressman Bob Beauprez 56-41%. Beauprez’ vacated House seat flipped to the Democrats as Ed Perlmutter trounced Rick O’Donnell 55-42%. Looking ahead, Republicans in Colorado face multiple challenges in 2008 with a key Senate race for the seat held by retiring Republican Wayne Allard, the Presidential race and a possible ballot initiative to abolish racial preferences in public education, employment and contracting. Many eyes will be trained on Colorado...

I mentioned over the weekend that there was a revolt in the SF Bay Area brewing against the Code Pinkos who defaced a military recruiting center in Berkeley. Melanie Morgan has set the date and issued a call to arms: We will rally to support our troops and denounce efforts by Code Pink and others to ‘chase’ the military out of Northern California. We make our stand at the Marine Recruiting Center in Berkeley which has just been defaced by anti-war protestors. Code Pink has a rally planned to denounce the miltiary on Wednesday, October 17th. We are calling on...

As the Left continues its hysteria over the misrepresentation of Rush Limbaugh's remarks, one wonders when they will denounce Code Pink. In Berkeley, the anti-war contingent defaced a Marine recruiting office, calling Marines predators on children and accusing them of murdering them (via Michelle Malkin and Gateway Pundit): Marine Captain Richard Lund recruits college students and graduates as candidates for officer positions in the marines. But carrying out that job in Berkeley is not always an easy task. He has listened to a variety of complaints from members of the anti-war group Code Pink in recent weeks. "We are so...

NIAGARA FALLS, N.Y. (AP) - Peace activists Medea Benjamin and Ann Wright have been arrested in the U.S. while protesting the Iraq war, but they never dreamed that would prevent them from entering Canada. The arrests landed Benjamin's and Wright's names in an FBI-run database, the National Crime Information Center, which Canada also relies on to screen visitors. When the two women visited the country in August, they were told they would have to apply for "criminal rehabilitation" and pay $200 if they wanted to visit again. Neither did. On Wednesday, Benjamin, co-founder of the anti-war group Code Pink, and...

kristinn resting after the Hornet Dance I thought our usual Friday night Walter Reed Freep was going to start off without a hitch when kristinn began doing this crazy dance on the way out of the parking lot onto the sidewalk. He was slapping himself on the back and singing, "HO HAY HA YOW HEE AH AH!". I thought he was celebrating Friday the 13th or something so I joined in. "HO HAY HA YOW HEE HO HAY HA YOW HEE!" Threw in a few kicks, some old soft shoe, spun around a few times. A Hokey-Pokey sort of...

While most of us spent Mothers Day with our mothers and our children, the childless-by-choice old hags of Code Pink spent the day breaking the law in Washington, DC. (To be accurate, a couple of the old hags are mothers, but most are not.) Their first stop of the day was on the National Mall, where military equipment was on display. Medea Benjamin was in town for the weekend. Here, she imagines American soldiers in her sights: After that, the group of America haters "took control" of a tank, to hang their banners from: Gael Murphy stood on the ground...

Antiwar activists from around the country will celebrate Mothers Day by converging on Washington, DC, where they will demand Congress end the U.S. occupation of Iraq. Five days of activism, sponsored by the women-for-peace group CODEPINK and "peace mom" Cindy Sheehan's Gold Star Families for Peace, will culminate in what organizers call a "Mother of a March" on May 14. "We want to get people out and get them active," said Tina Richards of Salem, Missouri. "We're getting in the way [and saying] no more business as usual until you pass legislation that brings our troops home and takes care...

For most Americans, the Iraq war is both distant and never ending. For Private Matthew Zeimer, it was neither. Shortly after midnight on Feb. 2, Zeimer had his first taste of combat as he scrambled to the roof of the 3rd Infantry Division's Combat Outpost Grant in central Ramadi. Under cover of darkness, Sunni insurgents were attacking his new post from nearby buildings. Amid the smoke, noise and confusion, a blast suddenly ripped through the 3-ft. concrete wall shielding Zeimer and a fellow soldier, killing them both. Zeimer had been in Iraq for a week. He had been at his...

If there's one thing every American on a budget knows, it's that you can't have it all. Ordinary Americans know that if you increase spending in one area of your budget, you have to decrease spending in another area, or risk going into debt. And they know that if you're already in debt, you have to trim your expenditures to pay back the money you owe. Unfortunately, the budget proposal that the Democrats introduced last week fails to understand this important principle. The Democrats' budget sends one message loud and clear: You can have it all. Without any way of...

The year 2006 will long be remembered as the Great Retribution--or perhaps the Deliverance Election. George W. Bush's presidency is toast. [...] [one of the great gains made by the voters] is the collapse of the conservative order--the right-wing economic agenda that has reigned for a generation and produced so many great injuries to society and the general well-being. Republicans will argue among themselves about how to put Humpty Dumpty back together again, but the "market ideology" cannot be repaired. This year, unlike in previous elections, many Democrats ran on the economic issues vital to ordinary people--trade, declining wages, the...

Norfolk-based sailor uses Web to channel opposition to war By LOUIS HANSEN, The Virginian-Pilot © November 5, 2006 NORFOLK - Jonathan Hutto graduated from Howard University with a degree in political science and a résumé of social activism. He worked for the American Civil Liberties Union and Amnesty International after college. He whipped up grass-roots protests against police departments and college administrators. One day in 2003, broke and seeking direction, Hutto enlisted in the Navy. The Navy couldn't have known it then, but they know it now: They had signed up a sailor strongly opposed to the Iraq war. In odd series of money transfers ordered by the leader of the World Jewish Congress, the tiny nonprofit that has wrested billions in Holocaust restitution from banks, companies and governments in Europe, has provoked an informal inquiry by Attorney General Eliot Spitzer of New York, people contacted by Mr. Spitzer's office said. Officials from Mr. Spitzer's office have been contacting organization insiders and others in the United States and abroad, and the organization appears to be working to head off a full-blown investigation. CHICAGO Aug 19, 2006 (AP)— Come 2008, Democrats don't want their presidential candidates spending the entire month of January in high boots and barn jackets. The Democratic National Committee on Saturday was expected to add Nevada and South Carolina to the early presidential voting states, a detour into gambling glitz and Southern gentility from the traditional cold winds and snow of Iowa and New Hampshire. The change is designed to address a nagging problem for Democrats: How to give a greater voice in selecting a presidential nominee to minorities who are among the party's most loyal supporters.

Scared yet? Well, you may be soon. What we almost certainly will see in aftermath of the alleged plot to blow up several planes en route to the U.S. is a thunderous response from President Bush and other Republican leaders. With the midterm elections less than three months away, they will attempt to scare Americans into re-electing Republicans or risk facing instant annihilation at the hands of an evil and murderous enemy. Choose us and live. Choose them and die. Your call. Nice way to end the summer, isn't it?

Liberal activists speaking at the "Take Back America" Conference in Washington, D.C., Tuesday said a "human Congress" and a "Peoples Emergency Management Agency" are needed to help rebuild New Orleans because of the federal government's alleged failures both before and after Hurricane Katrina. They also accused the Bush administration of diverting funding that should be used to rebuild New Orleans "overseas to an unjust war" in Iraq. Rev. Lennox Yearwood, national coordinator for the Gulf Coast Renewal Campaign, called Katrina the "lunch-counter logo for the 21st Century," a reference to discrimination against African-Americans who were refused seating at lunch counters...

Even Nobel Peace Prize nominees sleep through their alarms. Battling an ear infection, anti-war mom Cindy Sheehan missed her Saturday flight out of California and, therefore, her first Ohio appearance in Cleveland. But she didn't miss the chance to speak in Akron on Sunday. The American Civil Liberties Union filed suit on Monday against workers for an event with President Bush, saying they violated the civil rights of two people who were ejected because of their political views. According to court documents, Leslie Weise, 40, and Alex Young, 26, were thrown out from the March 21 event where President Bush was promoting his retooling of Social Security after it was noticed the car they arrived in had a bumper sticker reading "No more blood for oil," while wearing T-shirts saying "Stop the lies" under other clothes.

NEWFANE, Vt. (AP) -- A small town is urging Vermont's only U.S. congressman to file articles of impeachment against President Bush. Voters gathered for Newfane's annual town meeting on Tuesday to conduct routine business and vote on the impeachment call. It passed 121-to-29. The impeachment item says Bush misled the nation into the Iraq war and engaged in illegal domestic spying. A justice of the peace says that the town is run by what he calls the "far-left." But a local teacher says she can't tell students "that what happens on the national level doesn't affect us at the local...

March 12, 2006 -- NO one familiar with our nation's increasingly dysfunctional public schools should have found it surprising that Colorado high-school teacher Jay Bennish delivered a 20-minute, anti-American rant straight out of Noam Chomsky and Michael Moore to his 10th grade geography class. Bennish was somewhat cruder than your average leftist teacher - but he is not unique. Smoother, more effective Bennishes are everywhere in our great American high schools. That's one reason why our graduates are so full of self-esteem and have all the right attitudes, but actually know less math, science and history than their counterparts in...

With a dozen or so U.S. senators giving serious consideration to running for their party's 2008 presidential nomination, voters will want to know how the political ideologies of these potential candidates rank among their colleagues. Arguably, voters can best discern the relative ideologies by comparing the votes they cast on identical issues. Both the nonpartisan National Journal and the liberal Americans for Democratic Action (ADA) have recently released their 2005 voting guides, ranking the ideological purity of members of Congress. Herewith is a review of those rankings among the five Democratic senators -- Evan Bayh of Indiana, Joe Biden of...

Now, they've taken to infesting a location down the street, in front of a small sidewalk park, but still in front of the hospital. I had gone down alone, with my camera and tripod to document their little public protest. I had less than...

The execution of Crips Gang founder and convicted murderer Stanley “Tookie” Williams on December 12th generated an inordinate amount of hysteria from anti-death penalty forces, not to mention the mainstream media coverage, which, as always, skewed leftward. The vigil that took place outside San Quentin on the night of Williams’ execution was attended by such ubiquitous liberal celebrities as actor Mike Farrell, folksinger Joan Baez, and professional race-baiter Jesse Jackson. Brows were beaten, tears were shed, and Governor Schwarzenegger was lambasted for denying Williams clemency. Apparently, all it takes is writing (or more likely having ghost-written) several children’s books and...
