WASHINGTON, Jan. 24 (UPI) -- A retooled U.S. assault-weapons ban to be introduced Thursday was to include handguns and shotguns in addition to rifles, The Washington Times reported.

The bill, by Sen. Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., titled "The Assault Weapons Ban of 2013," was also expected to decrease the number of military-style features a gun may have before it's considered an assault weapon to one from two, the newspaper said.

Feinstein's bill would also create a national gun registry for the government to track lawful gun owners, the Times said.

Magazines, or ammunition storage and feeding devices within or attached to a repeating firearm, would be limited to 10 rounds, the newspaper said.

The 2014 race involves roughly twenty Democratic Senators, and I would imagine that a dozen of them really don’t desire this to be brought to a vote because they can’t support it and hope to win in their state.

It’s zero percent chance of finding adequate votes in the Senate, and that’s the end of this fine piece of legislation that she spend hours and hours....cutting and pasting, to arrive at some product. Curiously, it’d be nice to know how many pages are inside of this...maybe 700 pages?

Try it in California first, Mrs. Fineswine, and then get back to me.

Yet, Boehner and McConnell will relent and offer instead, universal background checks for all exchanges. They'll say they had to. They'll say the Dems would have passed even worse. They'll say they had to give up something and universal checks isn't so bad. This is the Democrat plan all along. If they get universal checks, they've got it all.

Universal checks IS registration! And registration is just confiscation without the trumped up ‘emergency Executive Order’ confiscation action that will come when the next drugged out (Ritalin?) teenager offs his parents.

Democrats want it - I do NOT...not no, but HELL NO! NOTHING should be passed!

In any and all discourse with conservatives, RINOs, Democrats, liberals, progressives we should all be saying CONFISCATION whenever they say “well, universal checks might not be such a bad idea...” As far as I'm concerned, the two words are synonymous

No problem. All my 30 round AR magazines are necessary for holding 10 rounds of .458 SOCOM ammo.

I'll never use them for 5.56mm rounds.....pinkie promise.

Only a perenially uncontested shrew like Feinstein, who represents an imploding state like California could feel confident enough to try and pull this off. Fortunately there are other, more vulnerable dems who, though they have the same sentiment, don`t dare tread in that direction.

Let’s actually hope she includes handguns. With the wave of CCW legislation that’s come about since the last AWB, “I’m going to take your handguns too!” is going to go over like a lead balloon.

Why is it? Why is it that those who steal guns, or happen to be in possession of one, who then go and kill movie goers and children in school have never been a conservative NRA member? The same seems to hold true for 99.9 % of all the killers involved in gang related shootings in Chicago. Then some one like a Mayor Bloomberg or Senator Feinstein along with the rest of their brethrens, all dyed in the wool liberals-socialist, come along and propose to disarm law abiding citizens. There appears to be something more sinister and dangerous than guns at work. It is the liberal mind set of those people that poses a greater threat to society then all guns combined in the hands of law abiding citizen. Give it some thought. There seems to be a common thread amongst all those killers, they either are registered democrats-socialist or are associated with them in some form or another. It clearly points to a warped mind or thinking. Ft Hood - Registered Democrat Muslim Columbine - Too young to vote; both families were registered Democrats and progressive liberals Virginia Tech - Wrote hate mail to President Bush and to his staff - Registered Democrat Colorado Theater - Registered Democrat; staff worker on the Obama campaign; Occupy Wall Street t participant; progressive liberal Connecticut School Shooter - Registered Democrat; hated Christians Unabomber - Registered Democrat and inspired by Al Gore's Book Earth in the Balance Timothy McVey - Oklahoma City Bombing raised Democrat and pro-Union Common thread is that all of these shooters were progressive liberal Democrats. Instead of registering and banning firearms, probably a better solution would be to register and ban progressive liberal Democrats don't you think?

and long gun reistration is illegal.

Firearms Owners Protection Act (FOPA)-Federal Law 18 U.S.C. 926(a):

No such rule or regulation prescribed [by the Attorney General] after the date of the enactment of the Firearms Owners Protection Act may require that records required to be maintained under this chapter or any portion of the contents of such records, be recorded at or transferred to a facility owned, managed, or controlled by the United States or any State or any political subdivision thereof, nor that any system of registration of firearms, firearms owners, or firearms transactions or disposition be established. Nothing in this section expands or restricts the Secretary's authority to inquire into the disposition of any firearm in the course of a criminal investigation.

Since the Firearms Owners Protection Act is an act of Congress, another act of Congress can nullify it.

Any law may be amended by another new law. In fact, if you were to read how most legislation is written, it merely uses the previous law as a template and makes language changes.

Be careful about putting too much faith in stopping these unconstitutional laws just because the votes aren't there to pass this legislation.

That may sound like a joke, but unfortunately it's not. Obama pushes the limit a little further each time he defies our Constitution. He makes intentionally provocative remarks to test his limits. He has already been allowed to cause so much damage there is legitimate concern he may not have a limit. There hasn't been any significant reason for him to stop so far.

He's backed by a huge propaganda machine, which has been a primary reason for our decades of fighting a losing battle against liberalism. Now we recently witnessed several leftist politicians and media propagandist openly call for ignoring the Constitution to advance their cause.
