President Obama has added his voice to the push for limits on Americans' gun use in the wake the massacre last week at a movie theater in Colorado.

Obama, speaking Wednesday evening to the National Urban League, affirmed his belief in Americans' right to own guns, but he singled out assault rifles as better suited for soldiers than civilians.

"I believe the Second Amendment guarantees an individual the right to bear arms," Obama said. "But I also believe that a lot of gun owners would agree that AK-47s belong in the hands of soldiers, not on the streets of our cities."

Though I'd be perfectly willing to settle for semi-auto versions in the above, or semi-auto versions of M-14, or FN-FAL. A guy can only carry so much ammo...

So, I (an FFL) will be able to check to see if my gun customer has ever been treated by a psychologist and that will be grounds for denying them their 2nd Amendment civil liberties?

I went to my doctor for a regular checkup the other day he spent an extra 10 minutes on the computer putting in all my info as per Obama Care law I asked only about the new computers in the exam room he stated he now has to register all info to the government he was not happy about it at all as was his nurse. Obama throwing a bone to his progressive base so they can say (on MSNBC) that Obama has taken a better ‘position’ on this than Romney and attack Romney, as they did last night.

They were getting pretty frustrated waiting for this. Obama wants to play it both ways on guns as with the tax issue: Example : he says he wants to raise taxes ‘on the rich’ while saying he never raised taxes, (not technically true as there are taxes in Obama-care). Same with guns. He's not proposing any gun control laws :wink, wink.

mitt has vowed to sign an assault weapons ban on several occassions... you had better get a written agreement with him before you go thinking that mitt is any different than obama on the issue.

I understand that the market price of a US legal, registered, full-auto AK-47 is $15-$20k. As a result, I'd guess that the number of homicides committed in the US with legal, registered full-auto AK-47s since 1986 is pretty close to zero.

Mikhail Kalashnikov designed the AK-47 in 1947, so there are newer and better designs in use throughout the world.

"AK-47s are very safe firearms that belong in the hands of collectors and gun enthusiasts" would be a statement that I would agree with.
