President Obama has added his voice to the push for limits on Americans' gun use in the wake the massacre last week at a movie theater in Colorado.

Obama, speaking Wednesday evening to the National Urban League, affirmed his belief in Americans' right to own guns, but he singled out assault rifles as better suited for soldiers than civilians.

"I believe the Second Amendment guarantees an individual the right to bear arms," Obama said. "But I also believe that a lot of gun owners would agree that AK-47s belong in the hands of soldiers, not on the streets of our cities."

Obama throwing a bone to his progressive base so they can say (on MSNBC) that Obama has taken a better ‘position’ on this than Romney and attack Romney, as they did last night.

Obama wants to play it both ways on guns as with the tax issue: Example : he says he wants to raise taxes ‘on the rich’ while saying he never raised taxes, (not technically true as there are taxes in Obama-care). I understand that the market price of a US legal, registered, full-auto AK-47 is $15-$20k. As a result, I'd guess that the number of homicides committed in the US with legal, registered full-auto AK-47s since 1986 is pretty close to zero.

Mikhail Kalashnikov designed the AK-47 in 1947, so there are newer and better designs in use throughout the world.

"AK-47s are very safe firearms that belong in the hands of collectors and gun enthusiasts" would be a statement that I would agree with.
