Family Misses Flight After TSA Gives Pat-Down To Girl With Cerebral Palsy
CBS WNEW ^ | 25 April 2012 | Editors

WASHINGTON (CBSDC) – The Transportation Security Administration is once again the subject of national scrutiny, this time after aggressively screening a 7-year-old female passenger with cerebral palsy which caused her family to miss their flight....“They make our lives completely difficult,” her father, Dr. Joshua Frank, a Long Island pediatrician, told The Daily. “She’s not a threat to national security.”

Frank taped the encounter, which ended when a supervisor inspected her crutches and let them pass. But agents followed up and insisted upon doing a full inspection of Dina.

Ultimately, the family missed their flight.

The TSA 'terrorist' - Seven year old, Dina Frank

UPDATE: The TSA issued a statement defending their decision to pat-down the girl.

“TSA has reviewed the incident and determined that our officers followed proper screening procedures in conducting a modified pat-down on the child,” the agency said.

The mission profile of the TSA has moved way beyond screening for potential terrorists.

No, we’re being conditioned to be subservient to authority, no matter how egregious the demand.

It’s long past time for the entire DHS organization to be disbanded.

I guess this family has never heard of arriving at the airport “At least 1 hour prior to departure” to avoid this. Idiots miss a flight that they likely knew about for weeks, so instead of stepping up and admitting that they were late ... no, let’s blame the TSA.

That sure looks like what the “Teasers” are trying to do. An uppity union anyhow.

I haven’t been on a plane since before this nonsense began in earnest. Patriotic patdowns! Is there a bridge too far here? I don’t believe Israel does this, and they face a lot more potential flight terrorists than the US does.

Hang your heads in shame, America.

Those before us would not sit on their hands while permitting government agencies, under the color of authority, to bully, insult and arrogantly abuse both physically and mentally the American Citizen.

no, let’s blame the TSA.

I say get rid of the TSA. Plain and simple, it is the state encroaching upon our liberties.

Maybe I missed something in a quick review of the original article, but nothing has been reported about how much time this ate up. The full hour could well have been allowed. The gummit ought to come right out and say “if you would be slow to strip search, allow more time.”

I wondered about this the instant I read this headline. This just another example of the many we have gotten recently, in a short time span, to make us crazier about the overreaching federal governemnt. Is it by design? Is it pushing, prodding, goading us to beg for relief and to REPLACE it with something? What... the... hell... is going on....... The world is in gimbal lock....

That’s why I stated in the other post. You SHOULD arrive 2 hours before your flight. It’s to avoid these kinds of situations. But in this situation, the TSA also had fault as how the F can you still hassle a visibly sick kid? They’re visibly white, a mother and kid, why not waive them in? The crowd will understand.

I’ve seen it before on flights: wheelchairs, crutches etc. The line of people will know why. Not a biggie.

What is your source that makes you so cocksure you know the duration and nature of this incident?

Oh, golly .. like maybe I travel frequently (2-3 trips a month) for the past several years. I’ve been in pretty much every major hub in the US, and have stood in many, many security lines.

The worst line I have encountered was 25 minutes (Minneapolis) - now, if you arrive 1 hour before your departure time, that leaves you 20 minutes to get to your gate, and 15 minutes to spare.

If you are an idiot, and show up at security 5 minutes before your flight leaves ... do NOT blame the TSA. Isn’t it interesting that NO MENTION of how long it took the TSA to process these folk is mentioned in the article?

I see thousands of people go through security checkpoints (airports, where I work, customs, border crossings, International Customs at foreign airports) and guess what? Folk in wheelchairs tend to zip through security quickly, as do people on crutches ... and even (gasp) people with debilitating diseases. They are through security in about 3-4 minutes, as crutches need to be inspected to ensure no weapons are hidden in the metal supports.

Agreed!

But some free republic posters will defend them for 'safety'.

They are willing to wear the chains of bondage for a little security.

Moving them to the front of the line, no problem. You will never hear a complaint from me about someone needing special assistance, getting moved forward in line. Depending upon the line at Security, I've witnessed this on a few occassions.

However, everyone must go through security.

If this girl was wearing a Bhurka, would you have Security just "wave her through"? You have to have one set of rules that apply equally, to everyone.

Again, checking a wheelchair, walker and crutches is something the TSA does hundreds of times, every single day. You don't have to stand in line at Security very long to witness this yourself.

From what I undestand, Israel uses profiling instead and it works just fine for them.

The TSA seems to seek out employees without any common sense and who enjoy a rush from the power to control everyday citizens. As government employees the TSA screeners can’t be easily fired so the idiots who virtually molested this young girl will likely not face punishment or loss of their jobs. Sadly doing this idiocy in the name of security is a total joke. The TSA has detected more breast implants than terror plots.

In the previous 22 years before 9/11, how many hijackings of planes were there?

There were a fair number, but none of the hijackers wanted to use the craft as a suicide bomb before 9/11, usually they were looking for a ransom or to go to a special destination.

Israel has ZERO terrorist incidents aboard airline flights, AND has NO invasive airport security; they NEVER touch you. Not once. Instead, you are met at about a half dozen checkpoints by polite, highly trained, screeners who look you dead in the eye and gauge your non-verbal response to innocuous questions about how your day is going, where you’re headed — doing what amounts to making casual small talk. Their track record is 99.99% flawless.

By contrast, our invasive airport security HUMILIATES hundreds of American citizens DAILY, nitpicking about nail files, and bottles of hand lotion, yet FAILS — REPEATEDLY — to find guns and other implements passed through checkpoints by security auditors.

Israel’s “hands off” system is an unprecedented success, while our hapless band of groping uniformed perverts not only have an embarrassing track record, but are so far over the line of propriety as to be on the verge of fomenting a national insurrection.
