Rick Santorum's 'Involuntary Euthanasia' Claim Outrages Dutch
The International Business ^ | February 20, 2012 | MELANIE JONES

Rick Santorum's claim that the Netherlands advocates mass murder through involuntary euthanasia has prompted a furious backlash from the Western European country, with local news sources calling the Republican a "crazy extreme" candidate making up facts to stir up his political base.

"Rick Santorum Thinks He Knows the Netherlands: Murder of the Elderly on a Grand Scale" fumed the headline of the newspaper NRC Handelsblad on Saturday.

The article references an interview, barely played up by the American press, in which Santorum claims that euthanasia makes up "10 percent of all deaths" in the Netherlands," and that many of those people were essentially murdered by the state.

Nah, she is a New York lib dem...and...her parents live in Florida...but my brother has shamed her over voting for Obama so much now that she is looking to rectify her mistake, and she is sincere on that.

But they have both voiced their concerns to me about Rick being a “right wing maniac”, and those are the exact words they used. Unfortunately, neither of them know the extent of what is occurring in this country as they are both too politically shallow I’m sad to say. Their whole group of friends, including the doctor and his wife, all 30 something, are the same way.

I know what Rick is saying appeals to social conservatives, and I’m fine with that, but I also know that what he is saying does not appeal to young folks in any way at all, and that definitely worries me.

The 'economic conservatives' have a pathalogical aversion to issues regarding ethics & morals.

Which is fine, but they also seem to believe people share their abbreviated worldview. To the contrary, most people have chosen a side.

I don’t think that will happen anyway. That creep Romney will probably still win the way we are going. LOL

This guy appears to have the same problem as Bachmann, making up BS out of thin air.

And he's starting to look JUST AS CRAZY.

His time has passed. He'll not win Michigan or any other primary. He'll never see another public office.

It's likely his children will look to distance themselves from their father...BECAUSE HE APPEARS TO BE A CRAZY ZEALOT.

Nobody who is sane believes 10% of deaths in the Netherlands are the result of euthanasia.

Did all of you Santorum supporters out there hear me?

If you think 10% of all deaths in the Netherlands are the result of euthanasia, YOU TOO ARE FRIGGIN' CRAZY! YOU NEED TO SEE A DOCTOR! YOU'RE CRAZY!

"Santorum claims that euthanasia makes up "10 percent of all deaths in the Netherlands"

Santorum needs his head examined. His claim is absolutely outrageous, and I understand the Dutch being furious over it.

FACTCHECK:

Euthanasia in the Netherlands is regulated by the "Termination of Life on Request and Assisted Suicide (Review Procedures) Act" from 2002. It states that euthanasia and physician-assisted suicide are not punishable if the attending physician acts in accordance with criteria of due care. These criteria concern the patient's request, the patient's suffering (unbearable and hopeless), the information provided to the patient, the presence of reasonable alternatives, consultation of another physician and the applied method of ending life. To demonstrate their compliance, the Act requires physicians to report euthanasia to a review committee.

Actually the assisted suicide cases represent 1.2% of all deaths in Netherlands

No one said anything about throwing the baby in a trash barrel, never suggested it. However, I do think taking the body home to young children and then sleeping in a bed with it is weird.

Social Issues HERE are critical and go hand in hand with ECONOMIC issues. Santorum has beat the social aspect TO DEATH.

You are a knee jerk reactionary. Apparently you do not remember conversations regarding gays and general conservative issues that we’ve had because you are out of your mind to think I am a liberal in any way. Shows how little you actually pay attention.

But I remember with clarity your attacks on Rick Perry and YOU outed yourself as a lib at that time.

You used “liberal” on a Conservative, that is also vulgar.

We are a Conservative Group, you, Outlaw Woman, and me.

We don’t agree with all the same issues in the same way but we are all CONSERVATIVES!

Love GOD,
Love LIFE,
love FREEDOM.

YOU said:
“I was answering your stupid statement and did it well.”

NO you didn’t.

Why do people have to wear dog tags claiming they don’t want to be killed by the socialist “health care” system over there?

Death care is going to visit the US very soon and your confusion about “choice” will be whatever the government decides for you and anyone in your family - as you have been forewarned on Free Republic. Euthanisa becomes a collective duty although it is politically incorrect to say it.

What is “good” for the collective is expected of everyone over there. You become a part of the group think herd and respecting human life is a wierd as home schooling or beleiving there is evil or thinking you should have the right to self protection with a gun and free “hate” speech”.

Chill out. I never called you a liberal. I think you have me mixed up with another poster.

I have heard plenty of nastiness toward Santorum too. I don’t see Rick or Newt being as foul to each other as some people are here to each other.

I am not going to hold this BS against either of them.

"You’re going to need the votes of some of those stupid libs if you want Obama out, and Rick ain’t going to get them running for pastor, sorry."

If Sanctimonium keeps up with this silly sh!t he'll be lucky to pick up 25% of the GOP vote in Michigan. I can actually see him lose 1/2 his support over the next 7 days...and another 50% reduction before Super Tuesday.

Most Republicans now think he is both crazy and toxic. He will be destroyed...if they find he needs a little help. Right now he's doing just fine on his own.

Depends on your definition of euthanasia, I suppose:

‘Schadenberg also said a 2007 report showed about 10 percent of all deaths in The Netherlands were related to terminal sedation. “Many of those deaths were caused by dehydration, due to the physician sedating the patient and then withholding hydration until death occurs, which usually takes 10 [to] 14 days,” he said.’

IF you listened to Newt Gingrich’s whole speech you would have heard the words “TO DREAM BIG” for AMERICA! To BE FOR AMERICA ONCE AGAIN!....

You heard Romney’s slimy position of attack and drank his coolaide.

Spot on!

“Actually the assisted suicide cases represent 1.2% of all deaths in Netherlands”

Most of the reported cases concerned terminal cancer patients.
