Hows this for an impressive feat without even entering the GOP presidential race, Gov. Rick Perry has somehow managed to position himself as one of the Republican frontrunners, according to the latest Rasmussen poll. Mitt Romney is still leading the presidential field at 22 percent in the latest poll of likely Republican voters, but Gov. Rick Perry is already nipping at his heels at 18 percent.
Much of this has to do with the fact that Romneys support has dropped 11 points since Rasmussens post-debate poll in mid-July. Bachmann had come in second in that survey, but now she slightly trails Perry at 16 percent.
Another indication Bachmanns momentum might be subsiding a bit: Perry also beats her among self-proclaimed Tea Partiers, 28 percent to 22 percent the one demographic where Bachmann has been expected to maintain an edge.
In fact, while Perry is considered by many to be an establishment candidate, his potential entrance in the race appears to pose more of a risk to Bachmann than Romney. Among non-Tea Party Republicans, Romney still surpasses Perry, 29 percent to 13 percent.
The poll also showed Tim Pawlentys valiant attempts to keep his head above water have had little impact on Republican voters so far. The self-proclaimed comeback kid actually cut his support in half since Rasmussens June poll, pulling in a paltry 3 percent. Making matters worse: hes even polling behind Newt Gingrichs dead-in-the-water campaign (6 percent) and Herman Cain (9 percent), who probably has more of a chance at winning the presidential nomination in the Islamic Republic of Iran than he does in the Republican Party. At least Pawlenty can take solace in the fact hes still leading the luckless Jon Huntsman, albeit by just one percentage point.
Did you get stuck in middle school that’s what your comment sounds like.
Cain, Pawlenty, and Santorum need to hang it up. And I like all of them. They are taking conservative points away from Perry, Palin, and Bachmann and allowing Romney to claim front-runner status. I’m betting the Pawlenty votes go to Perry and the Santorum votes to Palin. The Cain votes are unpredictable, so bump them all up a bit.
In any case, it will put a conservative ahead of Romney, and that is good news.
Sarah Palin said that about Rick Perry.
The poster attributed it to Sarah.
You repeated the quote but failed to attribute it.
Reagan granted amnesty to millions of illegals.
I don’t support that, but I supported the vast majority of what Reagan did.
There’s a lesson in there somewhere...
No, "We" can't, I'll leave rhe assuming business to you. I don't know when Perry registered to vote anymore than I know who he voted for. What is known is that Perry was born and raised in a conservative, hardscrabble Haskell County environment, where there were no Republicans for miles and miles around.
And you really can lay off the Romney like hammering on Reagan.
Quit comparing Reagan to Romney becoming an independent during the Reagan years, I mean Perry being anti-Reagan during the Reagan years.
...no matter what you and Mitt Romney say about Reagan.
Saying that I've hammered Reagan and comparing me to Romney is ludicrous.
Well, I guess I should have seen this coming. Even though I've made it clear in my posts that Reagan is the best Republican who ever lived, let me reiterate, Ronald Reagan is the greatest US President of my lifetime!
When you find yourself stooping to the level of insult and unfounded accusations, ansel12, you've already lost the argument.
Agreed
You just cant fix stupid.
Disagree. Ronald Reagan, Jim Robinson and David Horowitz were once democrats. You CAN fix stupid.
No, but your comment is funny! :)
Now what do you plan on doing about that drool, snot, spam you smeared on this thread last night?
I responded to what the poster posted. You can decide who owns the language for yourself, because it is not an obviously specific statement. It would fit Sarah Palin though, as what constitutes "right thing" is in the mind of the listener as projected upon the speaker. The reality of her actions is somewhat different than the desperately wishful perception of her pronouncements. Had I known or cared what she might have said about Rick Perry I certainly would have commented that it matches her virtually unbroken history of support for other RINOs like McCain and Fiorina. I wouldn't have missed the irony with which to temper the drooling ardor of so many FReepers for her fuzzy platitudes.
Reagan granted amnesty to millions of illegals.
Along with serious enforcement provisions that were virtually halted by the courts. Nor did I say I approved of what Reagan did there or then.
Theres a lesson in there somewhere...
Well, you just keep working on that. OK?
I still don’t get why anyone is putting any stock in these polls. They’re worthless until the campaign season really gets rolling (and for some outfits, they’re still worthless when you see how they muck around with methodology to get the result they want).
So the latest flavor-of-the-month Perry rises up the chart as the chattering class discusses him, while the last fad (Bachmann) starts falling away. Seriously, who didn’t see that coming? Polling at this stage has a lot to do with name recognition, so of course the touted names are going to poll higher.
This might be the last go-around of this nonsense before the campaign really gets underway, or there may still be time for one more flavor-of-the-month.
In any event, even if you take stock in these polls at are, no matter who your candidate is, there’s roughly 4 in 5 voters (or more) who aren’t planning on voting for that candidate at this time. Hardly makes anyone a front runner, in my book.
I’m pleased you are amused. Hey can you teach me how to cross out words like that? Been working on improving my dropping of URLs into threads. Sorry if I offended you but I really feel that Perry is part of this clique. Not good. Hope you will watch the video and comment. I lOVE YOU. Have a great day.
I think you’re right, early polls are no more than just a snapshot in time, subject to the changing whims of those who respond.
Their chief political purpose at this stage seems to be to get the chattering classes engaged and influence fundraisers.
For the rest of us, as I see it, the service they provide is in getting a conversation started.
Not here to bash Perry but Rasmussen. Gay Scott Rasmussen is just doling his part for the Republican establishment by leaving out the star candidate Gov Sarah Palin.
The joint efforts of LSM/Rep Establishment to push Bachmann and Perry (they are still pushing them both, just that Perry is their flavor of the month) will not be enough to keep Gov Palin from winning the nomination.
Once Sarah declares it`s all over for the rest. The biggest breaking news story will be the cash she raises, will be record breaking.
Bachmann is simply a JOKE!!!!
You wish! Palin is in the race, will declare on Sept 3rd
Well, not “hot”, for sure. That is OWNED by Pawlenty/ sarc.
Yeah, I know what you mean, but Perry is probably what Romney THINKS he looks like. Whereas Romney to me has always looked like some “reasonable facsimile” of handsome, like a computer programmed to come up with good looking just didn’t get it quite right: a little off in every area.

Your video link is busted.
You havn’t offended me. I believe you are wrong about Perry, but you’re obviously entitled to your own opinion.
I’d recommend staying from the nutty websites and crazy people like Kelleigh Nelson, but that’s up to you.
Were they "Al Gore Democrats", against the "Reagan Revolution", who even as Reagan was leaving office with the USSR on the verge of possible collapse, signed up to lead the Democrat charge against Reagan's vice president and to replace him with Al Gore?
‘Seriously, a junior congressman with zero executive experience winning the Presidency? When is the last time that happened? ‘[
Actually Lincoln was the only (former) junior Congressman. Garfield was the only other Congressman, but he was extremely senior, and was elected Senator just before he was nominated for President. According to Wiki “He became the only man ever to be elected to the Presidency directly from the House of Representatives and was for a short period a sitting Representative, Senator-elect, and President-elect”
Anybody that wants to bash the gay guy, Scott Rasmussen for leaving Our Sarah out of his phony poll, here is his email...
"Our Sarah" ? Is that like "Our Lady of Fatima"?
I mean, hey, I like Sarah Palin, but she's hardly a Deity.
Perry's father was a powerful democrat politician in their county, Perry was a cheerleader in college when it was time for him to register, Perry is a career politician himself and won his first democrat office when the rest of Texas was voting for Reagan, even after Reagan left office Perry signed up to run the Texas portion of the left wing Al Gore's (ACU of 9) campaign.
We can assume that the college attending cheerleader son of a local democrat politician registered to vote in the year that the 26th Amendment to the Constitution was passed, in the year when the 18 to 29 year old voter participation was higher than it has ever been in our history and in a year of high national turn out and passions.
