How’s this for an impressive feat – without even entering the GOP presidential race, Gov. Rick Perry has somehow managed to position himself as one of the Republican frontrunners, according to the latest Rasmussen poll. Mitt Romney is still leading the presidential field at 22 percent in the latest poll of likely Republican voters, but Gov. Rick Perry is already nipping at his heels at 18 percent.
Much of this has to do with the fact that Romney’s support has dropped 11 points since Rasmussen’s post-debate poll in mid-July. Bachmann had come in second in that survey, but now she slightly trails Perry at 16 percent.
Another indication Bachmann’s momentum might be subsiding a bit: Perry also beats her among self-proclaimed Tea Partiers, 28 percent to 22 percent — the one demographic where Bachmann has been expected to maintain an edge.
In fact, while Perry is considered by many to be an “establishment” candidate, his potential entrance in the race appears to pose more of a risk to Bachmann than Romney. Among non-Tea Party Republicans, Romney still surpasses Perry, 29 percent to 13 percent.
The poll also showed Tim Pawlenty’s valiant attempts to keep his head above water have had little impact on Republican voters so far. The self-proclaimed “comeback kid” actually cut his support in half since Rasmussen’s June poll, pulling in a paltry 3 percent. Making matters worse: he’s even polling behind Newt Gingrich’s dead-in-the-water campaign (6 percent) and Herman Cain (9 percent), who probably has more of a chance at winning the presidential nomination in the Islamic Republic of Iran than he does in the Republican Party. At least Pawlenty can take solace in the fact he’s still leading the luckless Jon Huntsman, albeit by just one percentage point.

Perry is no good. People here debate him constantly. Stay away from Perry. We need Bachmann, Palin or Cain. Stay away from Perry.

Don’t worry, he’s left quite a RINO trail.
We are waiting for an issues statement so we can decide which side of the issue Perry is on this time. Then we can look up the prior positions.
The fact that Perry was once a dimocrat is reason for one to be watchful. You just can’t fix stupid.
Guess I was first. I just now if we divide the tea party its over. Perry is pretty divisive as far as I can tell. I’ve become confused on what to believe about him. That doesn’t sound good. Because I am 100% sure about Bachmann. She’s taken the bullets in Congress and on the campaign trail.
I'd like to see a Palin/Perry ticket. That's a winner, IMO.

Bachmann’s a great conservative, but if she were our nominee she’d be destroyed. I believe she’s the only conservative that might lose to Obama.
It’s a POS poll.You can’t have a poll with Perry in and not Palin too. Palin does like him and I am sure he likes her. I will support a Palin/Perry ticket which is what I think we’re being set up for.
Yikes. Can you imagine better-looking inhabitants of the White House? Shallow, I know, but it would be refreshing.

I'll choose my candidate after everyone has declared and the primaries are in full swing. The obsession to trash viable conservative candidates before the primaries even begin is idiotic, and shouldn't be tolerated.
Sooo, how's that "conservative" ethanol and crop subsidy thing going for you? And what is she going to say when her executive and life experience is challenged, hmmmmm?

I know I can trust the other three you mentioned to skewer Obama. I`m not sure yet about Perry in that respect. I know he has blasted him a little but what I like about the other three is that they say things you ``can`t take back`` when it comes to Obama.
