ATF gunwalking scandal: Second agent speaks out (Other Agencies knew about it!)

(CBS News) WASHINGTON - South of El Paso on Mexico's side of the border lies Juarez - the most dangerous city in the world. CBS News investigative correspondent Sharyl Attkisson reports ATF Special Agent Rene Jaquez has been stationed there for the past year trying to keep U.S. guns from being trafficked into Mexico.
"That's what we do as an agency," Jaquez said. "ATF's primary mission is to make sure that we curtail gun trafficking."
That's why Jaquez tells CBS News he was so alarmed to hear his own agency may have done the opposite: encouraged U.S. gun dealers to sell to suspected traffickers for Mexico's drug cartels. Apparently, ATF hoped that letting weapons "walk" onto the street - to see where they'd end up - would help them take down a cartel.
--snip--
But ATF wasn't working alone on the case known as "Fast and Furious." Documents show ATF had conference calls with DHS (Homeland Security,) "USMS" (U.S. Marshals,) and DEA. An "ICE" or Customs agent was on ATF's Fast and Furious team. They were advised by an "AUSA" or Assistant U.S. Attorney under the Justice Department.

"That's what we do as an agency," Jaquez said. "ATF's primary mission is to make sure that we curtail gun trafficking." Note: The agent does not say "illegal" gun trafficking. Paging Senator Grassley. Please pick up the white courtesy phone.

Well, it depends upon what the goal of this action was.
If it was to follow guns and bust the gun runners, they failed.
If it was to add some artificial credence to their asinine assertion that the drug cartels got 90% of their guns from the U.S., they failed. It just took a while for the truth to out. Amazing this is from CBS.

The BATF mission was to curtail gun running. That's why they made sure that all of those illegal guns were walked over the border instead of run.
After all, running with a gun, just like running with scissors, is dangerous.

Why don’t police departments in all the major cities sell guns undercover to suspected traffickers to find out where the guns walk? That way they can get all the guns off the street once someone has been murdered!!! What a terrific idea!!!!
To: Red in Blue PA
I bet they’ve done this with drugs as well.

to answer your question, to a degree, yes. A case fired from a gun leaves a “fingerprint” allowing a match to be attained. However, unlike real fingerprints, the more a gun is used, the more the chamber, firing pin impression and rifling change.
This means that the first bullet fired from a gun will have different markings due to wear than say the 500th or 5000th round. The cases will bear different markings as well.
If the barrel is lapped, the markings on the lands and grooves will show a different pattern than before the lapping.
Firearms forensics is a fickle science depending upon the suspect weapon having not been modified or shot all to hell before recovery.

Has anyone come to the same opinion as I have that the departments of Justice and Homeland Security and all associated bureaus have been transformed into organized crime enterprises. Gun running, judges bought and sold, prosecutors that don’t prosecute but do persecute, border security that allows and profits from drug running, sex rings, etc. Wonder how much of the payoffs are going to Zeros re-election campaign.

I don’t see how allowing the guns into Mexico, then waiting to see if they turn up a crime scenes, could ever reasonably be expected to “bust the gun runners”. I am willing to be convinced, though. Please explain just how this would work?
To: Red in Blue PA
This thing still has legs. Now it needs to run over some “senior officials”. Take your pick. It’s open season as far as I can see.

I have no idea how this would work. No idea. I lean towards the other option, that they were trying to shut down legal sales by claiming the cabals were getting their weapons on the north side of the tracks.

"I lean towards the other option, that they were trying to shut down legal sales by claiming the cabals were getting their weapons on the north side of the tracks."That's a given: if the ATF is involved, and it's a big splashy, headline-grabbing case, it's a given that the real intent is to demonize lawful gun owners.

Apparently, ATF hoped that letting weapons "walk" onto the street - to see where they'd end up - would help them take down a cartel. BULL CRAP!
They were manufacturing evidence to support the notion that US gun shows and gun stores are supplying the weapons used in Mexico.
This is pathetic spin.

The federal government is completely out of control. Corrupt and bloated, they serve only themselves and their ranks, together a slightly westernized version of the Politburo.
I place 90% of the blame on the conniving shills for communism known as the Democrat Party and 10% on the candy-assed, limp-wristed, cowardly Republicans collapsing onto their fainting couches every time the rat mouthpiece media barks at them.
