Why is whitehouse.gov hosted in GERMANY? I'm asking.
Does anyone have any idea? This question was posed by Scott on a closed list I am on. I think it deserves a wider audience.
The image I've presented here comes from http://en.utrace.de/?query=www.whitehouse.gov
Because germany is a hotbed for islamic radicals
Well, he is in Germany today.
Just hosting the websites that Americans won’t...
Doucheland. Sounds right.
When I started a traceroute just a moment ago, whitehouse.gov resolved to 126.96.36.199, assigned to Akamai out of Cambridge, Mass. The actual host at the IP looked like it was hanging off a network located in Ashburn, Va. (one of the major Eastern U.S. data centers).
The One is in Germany?
The New World Order has begun.
Is that where George Soros lives?
Yeah, the NATO summit today was in Germany.
Because it is outside US jurisdiction there.
I was wondering that too.
But I think his primary residence is in NY.
I just pinged ‘www.whitehouse.gov’ from a unix machine and I get IP: 188.8.131.52 which is in Cambridge, Mass
You vill submit to zee New Vorld Order! Obama ist das Ein! (or maybe das Eine?, I didnt pay attention in class)
There is some stuff on that site that Obama does not want the other federal agencies to have access to.
MAYBE THE KEY IS IN GERMANY.
No, really... he probably just needed access because he needed to post another picture that had “hero” in the properties.
Because no Islamic country has hosting ability?
If you go to the German site, and type in ‘Freerepublic.com’, it resolves to Englewood, Colorado.
I thought it was based out of Fresno, CA, but at least it doesn’t point to some gateway portal in Germany.
But if you are in GERMANY, they host a version of it in Germany so it isn't so laggy. And when you use an IP lookup site in Germany, it finds the German site.
Lookup has started ...

that long list is the Akamai nameservers, which are clearly in different global regions.
And that's important because?
It’s made in Germany. You know the Germans always make good stuff.
They bid cheaper that the Indians! LOL.
If you click the IP (http://en.utrace.de/whois/220.127.116.11), it shows that the netblock that IP address is from is owned by Akamai Technologies, a company (an American one, by the way) that provides content mirroring services for many large, high-profile sites, apparently including whitehouse.gov for better performance. The site that you used to look it up is hosted in Germany, and thus gets a server hosted in Germany for lower latency.
They must have multiple servers. I traced it to 18.104.22.168, which is in Singapore.
Dick MORRIS: Yes, Obama. This was so unbelievable. Obama was the one pressing for less regulation and more spending. And he had to convince the Europeans. But eventually -- but Obama himself is a socialist, I believe, and he had no problem really with this.
This truly creates a global economic system. From now on, don't look to Washington for the rule making, look to Brussels.
Gordon Brown announced the creation of a "new world order" after the conclusion of the G20 summit of world leaders in London.
"Todays decisions, of course, will not immediately solve the crisis. But we have begun the process by which it will be solved," Mr Brown said. "I think a new world order is emerging with the foundation of a new progressive era of international co-operation,"

In the olden times it was always hosted at MIT in Cambridge - my guess is there may be a European mirror.
Dude, no need to yell at me. I’m not one of the Fifth Reich-NWO-whitehouse.gov conspiracy theorists.
Not yelling at you.
Sorry that's what it looked like.
THIS IS YELLING.
This is emphasis.
A copy cache? It is more than that if the domain is pointing to it. It has to be listed as a name server for the domain to pick up that IP.
A mirror that is a listed name server.
The whois database sez:
Massachusetts - Cambridge - Akamai Technologies
Because Wookees are not from Endor.
My recollection was that Whitehouse.gov was located in Sterling, VA and backed up in other places.
Can’t traceroute through my router without turning things off or I could help.
You just need O’s face instead of Hitler’s.
For the Bush admin, likely Sterling.
That is San Jose 1, ATT. 1/2 of the building is Government account.
Why is whitehouse.gov hosted in GERMANY?
Why is Merkel all buddy buddy with him all of a sudden?

Maybe they wanted to honor the birthplace of Mrs Chief Engineer? Sorry I couldn’t resist.

Mother Jones ^ | 4/03/2009 | Steve Aquino
“The Cybersecurity Act of 2009 (PDF) gives the president the ability to “declare a cybersecurity emergency” and shut down or limit Internet traffic in any “critical” information network “in the interest of national security.” The bill does not define a critical information network or a cybersecurity emergency. That definition would be left to the president”
US Internet shut down will not effect white house site. This looks like the white house will still have world Internet access out of Germany while the US internet is shut down by executive order. Same as shutting down the phone system.
Very Scarey Stuff. We as citizens also lose contact with our troops posted abroad.
Jim Rob, time to have a mirror FR site off shore.STAT
Trace Routes can be spoofed. And routes don’t dispute a domain point. And domains only point to listed name servers. IOW, that domain in Germany is a listed name server.
