Bobblehead Muhammed?

A ceramic bobblehead doll of the Prophet Muhammed - created to resemble the infamous caricature published by a Danish newspaper - is being hawked online for $22.99 a pop by an ex-Marine.

The unapologetic creator, Timothy Ames, 28, said the bobblehead is similar to "dashboard Jesus" figurines that can be stuck with adhesive to flat surfaces. "I thought, 'If they flipped out over some cartoons what will they do with a dashboard Muhammed?'" Ames said from his home in Hawaii.

But Islamic experts are not amused, saying the bobbleheads could anger Muslims, whose religion strictly prohibits depictions of the prophet.

"No depiction of the prophet, even if it is positive, should be made ever - and certainly not one as ridiculous as the bobblehead Muhammed," said Zvi Ben-Dor Benite, an assistant professor at New York University. "I don't think it's about freedom of speech. This is the freedom to insult, which he shouldn't be doing."

Ames said several hundred people have purchased the dolls online, and he has paid a Chinese manufacturer to create 1,000 more. "I just think it's funny," he said.

Violent protests erupted last winter across the Muslim world after a Danish newspaper published cartoons lampooning the Prophet Muhammed as a suicide bomber. Many European papers reprinted the cartoons.

"People who get p----d off about this, they're going to get p----d off regardless," Ames, a baptized Christian, said.

The sophomoric Web site where Ames, using the pen name "Filthy," sells the bobbleheads also features a collection of scattered rants. In one, he writes: "I'm really not into slamming people just for their religion. Most of the stupid people I've met are stupid despite their religion, not because of it."

Frank Peters, a professor in the Department of Middle Eastern Studies at NYU, warned that a bobblehead Muhammed was "a really bad idea."

"Jews and Christians have gotten used to this kind of thing, but Muslims haven't," he said. "This may not be his intention, but these things have consequences."

Freedom of speech includes speech that is not very popular... as the libs so often throw in our faces.

If Americans have to tolerate burning our flag on American campuses, then the islam-o-nuts have to tolerate a bobble head doll.

But Islamic experts are not amused...

You got that right...the most unhumorous people on the planet. allah obviously doesn't have a funny bone in his body...he left it out of all of is lunatic followers....

but....they can laugh and cheer when infidels are hanging from a bridge, or people are making a choice fo jumping out of a skyscraper rather getting burned to death...or slowly cutting off Nick Burg's head and showing it on tv....

I hope the bobble head mohammad drives the muzzies absolutely nuts...they go on a riot and destroy even more of their countries...sending them farther back into the ancient dirt.

well, the main reason the women dress in sacks is because their society allows wife stealing. almost happened to a friend of mine while he and his non-muslim wife were in Saudi.

"Bobblehead Muhammed" would be a GREAT name for a rock band!

Tell it the Arab media who routinely depict Jews as monsters and Nazis, dhimmi.

"I think I'd like one, but he made Mo too cute. I would have painted dark circles around his eyes, to give him that sunken look that Islamies have."

And the "uni-brow"! - DON'T forget the uni-brow! (As in one continuous hairy eyebrow over the eyes!)

I agree. This is so insensitive. Just plain wrong. I have ordered several dozen to make sure that fewer Muslims will not be offended. ( There are none in our Shooting Club.)

From the guys website...FAQ...

Q. What you're doing is wrong. You're purposely providing a product which just adds to the already present hate mongering between religions in our society.

A. No, I'm not wrong. I'm never wrong. I'm not dealing in hate, and I'm not selling anything undesirable or discreditable. I'm just selling an item I think is clever, giving my opinions, and providing a forum for people to discuss their opinions. If this makes you hateful, maybe you should ask yourself why. Finally, I don't think there is hate mongering between religions in our society. I think the hate mongering is between the same morons who would be hateful if there was only one world religion and we worshipped baby kittens or fluffy bunnies.

Q. You say how much you hate stupid people and like to call other people idiots, but you misspelled {Mohammed, Mohammad, Muhammed, Mohamed, Muhamad, Muhamed, Mohemed, Mahomet, etc.} on your site. You're the real idiot!

A. Yes! I saw this one coming right from the beginning. Since the original spelling of Mohammed isn't in Roman characters, and since I've found about 10 legitimate academic references to Mohammed, each with different spellings, I've decided on the spelling I use throughout the site.

Q. You're a racist bigot. You're nothing but a typical hypocritical Christian redneck propagating hate.

A. I'm not racist, bigoted, or hateful. I don't think I've ever HATED anyone.
I take that back. I hate stupid people.

Q. You're only doing this to get a rise out of people. You're nothing but a whore for attention.

A. I honestly don't believe that this page will receive much attention at all. The majority of people have been desensitized to this sort of content on the Internet.

Q. Why are you picking on Muslims? Is it something personally against their religion?

A. No. The first item that I ever created targeted at a specific religious community was actually to get a laugh at Catholics. I noticed a lot of post on the Internet asking where people could buy a cilice. I thought this was hilarious, because I remembered the cilice from Dan Brown's novel. Then, after spending about 3 days unsuccessfully searching through the Internet trying to find one for sale, I recognized a unique market niche that needed to be filled. One drunken night on eBay, I posted an auction for a cilice, which ended up selling for around $80. This actually put me in an awkward position since I hadn't actually made one yet and really didn't know where to start. I spent the next 48 hours learning how to make them, and since time if this posting have sold over 100 cilices on eBay for anywhere between $10-94. While the majority of customers are just nice devout faithful...

Anyway, you get the point. I will make fun of anyone anytime I see fit, and I will enjoy it, because I'm justified in doing so.

My ex used to tell me about one of these guys:

http://cgi.liveauctions.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=6607947062

I guess there are lights in the monsturn's hands that light up with your turning signals & brakes, along with some kind of arm actions. I guess a friend of his bought about a dozen of them when they came on the market.

I have written and asked the supplier to make them large enough to hold a stick of dynamite, fuse out of the top of the head. I intend to send a few cases to the Stryker Squads in Bagdad.

For those too afraid of offending muzzies w/the bobblehead muhammed, I offer a little something I came upon the other day - a bobblehead Martin Luther

Let's not forget the prince of Geneva, the bobblehead John Calvin either:

"Girls being gangraped in Sweden, Holland, France, Denmark, and Australia, people being enslaved, villagers in Malaysia, the Molluccas, parts of Africa being forcibly 'converted' and mutilated to this garbage 'religion', native European girls having to wear headscarves or dye their hair black to avoid being harrassed by moslem 'youths' who should never have been in their countries, terrorism and the murder of thousands-all of these abominations done in the name of islam angers me ."

My feelings precisely. I think your tag line sums it up very well.

And isn't the double standard interesting? Whenever Muslims commit blood libel against Christians or Jews--the century-old fraud, The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, being typical--that is just free spech. But a bobblehead Muhammed or the Danish cartoons--well, those are gratuitous insults. They are blasphemies. Even worse, they are insensitive--and for today's cultural liberals, insensitivity (to SOME people's feelings) is the ultimate sin.
