I am not a fan of pit bulls as I was attacked by one but I have never supported the band just for this reason. I have a German Shepard and he is now on this list as our huskeys, and many more. In Aurora, if you own an outlawed dog you have to pay $200 a year just to lisense one. This is crazy and needs to stop. Responsible pet owners are being punished. This is government at it worst. This is becoming like the gun laws.

There's a band called the "Pit Bulls?"

These dogs, as has been proved scientifically, can shred ankles just like a flick of your fingers. Then what have you got? People hopping away as dogs stretch the leash. Rrrroowf.

Thanks for posting and I agree, we are becoming far too regulated and Orwellian. As a child I was badly bitten by an English Springer Spaniel (sp?). My parents and the owners decided that since I'd teased the dog, (I had) that I had it coming. I stayed away from him and he ended up running away from his owner and mauling a little girl playing in her front yard. He wasn't destroyed he was given to an elderly man who lived alone. My cousins had a cocker named Jetter who was equally aggressive, he'd bite of you tried petting him on the left side of his head (of course I had to try) so I was bitten and bled all over the place but I didn't tell anyone - those were the days when kids were blamed if they acted irresponsibly. To think I could have sued my Aunt and Uncle for millions!

Glad to see mine aren't on there.
Mine are of the pure breed known as "Carolina Curb Setters".

I have a Chow, and yes, they go for the tendons, but usually of other animals. She loves people but other dogs are lunch. Just the way it is.

Yes, and as I stated - I am not a fan of pit bulls and have the scars to prove it but I have known just as many non aggressive pit bulls as aggressive ones.
Two weeks ago at the dog park a yellow lab attacked another dog and the owner thought it was just because the dog was not mature. It was an alpha dog and dog aggressive. All breeds have an alpha and omega and can be dog aggressive. I also have a black lab and she is the sweetest dog there ever was and was bullied by this other lab. The lady finally left after a few dog owners asked her to.
The problem is that the type of people who own aggressive dogs tend to be gang members - lower income, minorities or people who do not value dogs as loved pets and keep them chained or strictly outside and are not socialized. These type of people are not going to obey these new laws they are trying to pass.

I believe your assement is correct.

LOL - yes - I've been bitten my a cocker spaniel and was chased on my bike and bitten on the ankle by a shelty but I still rode my bike by the same house and would yell at it and it left me alone. Today I could sue them and then I would not have to work.

I stand corrected sir, your right.

Any time the government punishes innocent people because of the irresponsibility of others it's dead wrong. German Shepherd? Great Dane? I have some experience with these breeds and they are not "aggressive". Protective, yes. Aggressive, no way.

What bulls***! Granted, I live out in the country, but there is a Staffordshire (Pit Bull), three Rottweilers, a Doberman and a Mastiff up the road from me. All of them bark at strangers, but not one has tried to bite me when I visit with their owners-the nastiest biting dog on this road is a Jack Russell Terrier owned by an equally nasty human. We have a Siberian Husky, and over the many years have had three other "dangerous dogs" that never bit anyone-two German Shepherds and a Chow. The Chow lived the longest at 17 years, and yes, everyone was terrified of him because he lookied ferocious and barked at strangers, but he never tried to hurt anyone who was a guest in our house. He and both of the (female) Shepherds were always gentle with our kids, and were great body guards for them, too. Our Husky is a good watchdog, but she has never tried to bite anyone either. I hope this crap gets stopped in it's tracks-they need to just fine irresponsible dog owners of ANY breed, period.

Chows are unpredictable. My stepmom's mauled her over a dog biscuit. He was not abused at all and she is an experienced dog owner. However, I'm surprised at Great Danes being banned. My two are sweeties. I can't imagine them attacking someone unless they were defending me or the property. Even then, I'm not sure how agressive they'd be.

Our Chow got along well with other dogs as long as they didn't try to come into the yard or house. He also got along with the two cats we had, but a strange cat that wandered into the back yard would have been toast...
