I am not a fan of pit bulls as I was attacked by one but I have never supported the band just for this reason. I have a German Shepard and he is now on this list as our huskeys, and many more. In Aurora, if you own an outlawed dog you have to pay $200 a year just to lisense one. This is crazy and needs to stop. Responsible pet owners are being punished. This is government at it worst. This is becoming like the gun laws.

More over regulation by government. Intrusive government knows no bounds.

Glad to see mine aren't on there.

Mine are of the pure breed known as "Carolina Curb Setters".

Any time the government punishes innocent people because of the irresponsibility of others it's dead wrong. German Shepherd? Great Dane? I have some experience with these breeds and they are not "aggressive". Protective, yes. Aggressive, no way.

I would recommend you research the "breed" of the people pushing the ban.

Two animal rights groups joined forces a while back and have a $90 million war chest to push their radical agenda. They have publicly stated that they intent to target states, as their effort to push their wierd agenda failed in congress. Included in their agenda is the goal to ban ownership of all dogs.

I can guarantee you this is just the beginning. In 5 to 10 years that list will grow to twice or three times that size. Everytime a dog breed growls or snaps at a person it will be added to the list. It's the nature of the control freaks.

Look to see if there's Human Society of the United States money behind this effort. The people running this outfit are left wing, animal worshipping kooks.

My speculation is that HSUS is behind this ban, and this is only the beginning.

Please don't compare inanimate objects to animals that have a mind and instinct all their own. Thank you.

They include German Shepherds, St. Bernards, and Great Danes as suspected vicious dogs. Put them in a cage such as they require, and almost any dog would become vicious!

I have known very good, friendly German Shepherds. Our daughter used to craw over her grandparents' Shepherd, pull its ears, jab her elbows into its sides as she crawled over it, and the dog would moan tolerantly, and acted very protective of our "puppy." Shepherds will defend the family, unike some politicians.

Great Danes (also on the list) are not especially vicious: just big. St. Bernards are very friendly, if properly trained.

Chows are a menace. I have never known a good one, but if you want to keep one, that is your business.

To understand this law, you have to know the town which passed it. Does anyone know the 2004 election results from there? I would be willing to bet ...

Thanks for the ping

"or any dog displaying the majority of physical traits"

That amorphous criteria is an open door to anything the government wants to do.

hrm.. so i'm wondering how these people would look at my old neighbors dog.. german shepherd, rott, pitt, doberman mix. dog looks scarey, but is the most loving dog i've ever met- and not in an aggressive, jump on you, kind of way. he'd just trot up to you, and lean against you until you pet him.

Increasingly our freedoms are being threatened by a coterie of politicians who pander to various pressure groups desiring a bubble-safe environment for everyone - like it or not.

The problem isn't "pit bulls" or any other brreds. Its irresponsible idiot owners who buy macho type dogs and don't have the slightest knowledge about how to control and train them, or simply are too lazy to do so.

The other problem are "puppy mills" which generate dogs of poor stock for mass marketing at discount prices and the fools who patronize them.

A well-trained "pit bull" from reliable stock can be a trustworthy companion - Teddy Roosevelt had one. so did General Patton.

I do not remember who said it about the Nazi's: "When they came for the Jews, I said nothing. When they came for the fundamentalists, I said nothing, then they came for me and there was no one to say anything about it." (I know it's a paraphrase as this was something I learned and forgot more than 20 years ago.

First they came for the pitbulls, and I I said nothing.
Then, they came for the Rotweillers, and I said nothing.
Now they are coming for my German Shepherd.

Really, if they want to eliminate the most irritating dogs, outlaw Pekinese.

pinging...this is ridiculus when virtually all large breeds are being banned! German Shepherds, Great Danes, Mastiffs, Rotweillers, even St Bernards! If this passes in Colorado, watch other municipalities do the same!

I'm no fan of pit bulls, but I am opposed to breed-specific legislation, largely because type is often times mixed and not objectively definable. This ordinance is also over-reaching in that it would limit ownership, without apparent exception to only one dog at a time. Apparently, one who owns and shows more than one of many working dog breeds, or breeds those dogs, or, if I read it right, even allows such a dog to be in heat, would be in violation inside the city limits. A differential fee for licensing is bad enough... A strict limit without exception is over-reaching.

Ping!
