PRESERVED T. Rex Soft Tissue RECOVERED (Pic)

WASHINGTON — For more than a century, the study of dinosaurs has been limited to fossilized bones. Now, researchers have recovered 70-million-year-old soft tissue, including what may be blood vessels and cells, from a Tyrannosaurus rex.

If scientists can isolate proteins from the material, they may be able to learn new details of how dinosaurs lived, said lead researcher Mary Higby Schweitzer of North Carolina State University.

"We're doing a lot of stuff in the lab right now that looks promising,'' she said in a telephone interview. But, she said, she does not know yet if scientists will be able to isolate dinosaur DNA from the materials.

The soft tissues were recovered from the thighbone of a T. rex, known as MOR 1125, that was found in a sandstone formation in Montana. The dinosaur was about 18 years old when it died.

Hey...I got a friend who thinks maybe God made 70-million-year-old stuff 6,000 years ago. Like, it was already ancient the day it was made. Thoughts?

Well, there are some real indications that things are older but carbon dating isn't really one of them. To me distance to galaxies is a more valid age indication.

The thing is that God made Adam a full grown man so anyone looking at him on that day that he was created would have to think Adam was older and had human parents. So did God lie to us by creating Adam? Certainly not because He said that is what he did.

Why not? But it wouldn't change the methods of science, which study the evidence that is available to be studied. How could you disprove something like that?

If you were to see Adam and Eve on creation day, how old would you have said they looked?

The Bible describes creation. It does not give the date it started. And, furthermore, there are likely thousands of years of gaps in time that Scripture does not record. After Adam etc., no doubt there are perhaps even millions of years missing at points. It doesn't just go from Adam to Noah in a couple generations.

There aren't any gaps, hence the timeline via births. Some people think it's boring to read them but they serve many significant purposes.

Getting into one of these threads is like starting the 1000th chess game with someone you've played over and over. Hmmmmmm How will I open this time, how can I control the midgame? Why can't there ever be an actual win? ;-)

OH come on. The Bible is not intended to cover every aspect of time that ever occurred.

"In the beginning"... God created everything in six days. Then, Adam begat Seth, and Seth begat... right on down the line to Jesus.

It all seems pretty straighforward to me. No valid reason to doubt it.

Indeed. But, you need to keep in mind that some people lived much longer than even 600 years, the idea of a generation in Scripture is not necessarily ours, with the Lord 1000 years is like a day etc.

Also, in Matthew, some people are left out of the genealogy.

God uses the list of names to remind us how he works in the lives of people through all generations, as well as how much he loves us. The names also are there because they point to the covenant relationships of families.

They aren't there to get some mathematical formula on when the world began.

It's sort of unfortunate that, fairly decent artwork notwithstanding, that was a crummy pinball machine design.
