Trump: I’m open to Cruz as VP
The Hill's Ballot Box Blog ^ | May 4, 2016 | Mark Hensch

Donald Trump on Wednesday said that he would consider making Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) his running mate.

“I respect Ted,” he told host Bill O’Reilly on Fox News’ “The O’Reilly Factor." "He was a very strong competitor. He really competed hard and tough."

“He’s certainly a capable guy,” the presumptive GOP presidential nominee added. "It’s something we can think about.” Trump defeated Cruz in Tuesday’s Indiana GOP presidential primary, making him the presumptive nominee.

Cruz suspended his Oval Office bid shortly afterward, saying that his results in the Hoosier State “foreclose” his path to the Republican presidential nomination.

Trump on Wednesday said that he does not resent Cruz for their often bitter contest against each another.

“It’s an easy thing,” he said of the nominating process. "He said some things and he made some things up and he took some things that were said out of context.”

Reports emerged earlier on Wednesday that retired neurosurgeon Ben Carson would serve on a selection committee for finding Trump’s running mate.

Carson, another former GOP presidential candidate, will help Trump make his pick before the Republican National Convention in Cleveland in July.

Trump on Wednesday said that Carson’s involvement stems from his reluctance in becoming the vice presidential nominee himself.

“I don’t think Ben’s looking at that,” he said. "He’s a friend of mine. He’s been so helpful. He’s a terrific guy.”

Trump additionally reiterated that he is also eyeing Gov. John Kasich (R-Ohio), who suspended his White House run earlier Wednesday.

“I would certainly consider him,” he said. "During the debates I’d always find myself talking to John. I’ve had a good relationship with him, so we’ll see how that turns out.

“I don’t want to talk too much about it as I am considering a couple of people. We do have a lot of candidates who would be very, very good."

Now here is the thing, if you deliberately miss-state a persons position, as Cruz does 10 times in the clip above...well average folks not attuned to the nuisance of the lawyers carefully selected prose call that lying. Christians call it bearing false witness. You can respond, if you like trump will betray folks and so the above is not lying, but normal people see it otherwise.

Cruz lied a lot in this campaign. You can insist otherwise by around 55~60% of the republican electorate has decided otherwise.

Cruz needs to suck it up and make peace with trump or he will always be rembered in this manner.

Trump is likely a one-termer by choice.

Laughable. Quote where you have heard Trump say that. I have read otherwise..

How do you back-pedal on “Lyin’ Ted,” Donald? Perhaps he’s just saying that to try and heal the party.

That's exactly right. There is no serious consideration being given to this notion. It would be political suicide. (It would provide endless deflection fodder for Cankles, every time she's called a liar just run another ad clip of Trump calling his own VP a liar)

No, it's not happening. He's just saying that to unify the party.

Good comment.

That said Cruz supporters will have to stop their insults as well. As of the last polls and votes held, in a 2 to 1 ratio the republican electorate chose Trump over Cruz.

>Not sure about that. Senator Cruz got more votes in WI than Trump got in NV.

A blue state with lots of Hillery voters crossing over for Cruz? Utah is a much better choice if you want to make that argument. And yes Trump screwed the pooch by attacking Scott Walker there. Very bad showing by Trump, but not a strong indication of Cruz’s backing.

>Why else would Trump be giving so many accolades to Cruz?

Trump generally fallows the maxim to be gracious in victory. I challenge you to take a closer look at Trump’s life and behavior to learn about the man. Watch the videos instead of reading the transcripts as the media often lies about what Trump actually says. Will you give that a shot?

Me personally, I’d much rather see Cruz on the Supreme Court. The damage he’d do to the leftist agenda would last a generation.

I believe Trump should keep quiet about his choices till after he’s in as the news media would hit him hard on any right leaning Justice claiming that makes him unelectable.

Now the FlimFlam man would pick a liar for VP? What a con artist this POS is.

Calling Senator Cruz a liar and dragging his good name through the dirt and now do a 180.

You tRump supporters have chosen a real race ass for us to vote for. He says he wants to unite the party in one breath and next breath if you do not support him you can just stay home the next 8 years.

Yeah fine dictator here.

I will do that. Honestly. I will watch the videos.

Truth be told the media does play up the bad things on all candidates

Here are the WI results via CNN
http://www.cnn.com/election/primaries/states/wi/Rep

Here are the NY results via CNN
http://www.cnn.com/election/primaries/states/ny/

Please don’t misunderstand me. I want Trump to beat Hillary into the ground in November. And I plan on voting for hm. I just really dislike any politician (including Cruz) bad mouth another candidate.

Did you know that Lincoln took all of the other Republican candidates for President and appointed them to cabinet positions? And when he was assassinated, they all wept. Lincoln was a very smart person to surround himself with the people he did. I hope Mr. Trump does the same. He is very smart, but an intelligent appointee would make Trump even smarter(and more respected as well!)

Of course Trump would say he will run for two terms... I think he accomplishes his goals in one term and bows out gracefully. You heard it here first folks. And I am a Trump supporter and would be just fine with that providing he picks a suitable VP. Condi may or may not be, but I like the demographic she brings.

Well......tell yourself that.

But to the vast population that paid attention to this primary season......Cruz knowingly misrepresented Trump’s positions on numerous policy areas. Also know as lying to the average man.

If you want a written example: Cruz said Trump is anti-second amendment. He said it several times since March 1 in public speeches, in the present tense. It is true Trump was pre 2002, but around 2006~7 he converted to the pro-gun side. Trump is now pro second amendment and is the only candidate who proposed trying to extend the equal protection act to the second amendment. Very clever, forces the other side to defend. Might end up removing a lot of restrictions such as mag limits, assault rifle bans, CCW, etc. If you doubt me check out his web site.

Did Cruz back off his claim...no he continues to say Trump is like Hillary on the second amendment. That is an open falsehood and a blatant example of bearing false witness.

Now I have pointed this out the Cruz fans and offered to give the reason one would know Trumps conversion is in fact genuine, were any interested. No questions, challenges or curiosity...they did not want nor would they consider the point that their supposed king and hero was a speaker of non truths. (Cruz). It is by such actions a lot of us have been turned off to Cruz. (who is by the way a excellent supporter of the 2nd A.)

Care to challenge that point and insist he is still the anti-gun Trump? Go ahead I dare you, ask me how I know.

Now here is the thing. Most reasonable folks are aware of this pattern with Ted. You can deny it all you want, 55 to 60% of the traditional republicans voters now see him that way. Not...a... compelling.... candidate...ever..again

Cruz needs to mend fences as much as Trump. If he does not bury the hatchet Cruz will have no future...period. If Cruz does not support the candidate...well that is his option but a lot of us will remember it in 4,8, 12, 16 years. He has no future in the new republican party unless he mans up and makes peace with the nominee and supports him. If you need to know what I can help you with that as well, just ask.

Trump folks should not insult Cruz, but Cruz folks should not insult Trump. Realize that you may feel your candidate was treated unfairly but realize the other side might feel the same way, it was a hard battle, Trump fans have their resentments too, though it is easier to let go of them when you won. I understand if you are bitter, I was a Newt supporter in 2012 and it took some time to go with Romney but I did. If you need to not vote for Trump, well conscious must dictate that, but do not expect folks to then come around to your candidate in 4 years, if Cruz does not show a bit of humility and graciousness he will always be known as the candidate who melted down on the Tuesday Primary, not a suitable candidate for dogcatcher.

Something to ponder.

"It’s something we can think about.”

Geez, when will people "get" Trump????

Translation: NO.

He ALWAYS says stuff like "we'll look at it," "we'll do something," "we'll think about that" as verbal tap-dance, a way to avoid answering the question. And when he avoids answering the question, it means he's NOT INTERESTED.
