Graham plans to follow McCain's playbook in N.H.

CONWAY — South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham hopes history will repeat itself in the Granite State. Graham, one of 16 presidential candidates seeking to become the Republican Party's nominee next year, is taking a page out of his good friend Sen. John McCain's (R-Ariz.) campaign playbook by trying to connect with as many New Hampshire residents as possible.

The three-term U.S. senator plans to hold more than 100 town hall meetings in the state, and as part of 12-day swing through New Hamphire will spend much of Wednesday in Conway.

A town hall meeting is scheduled for 6:20 p.m. at the Gibson Center for Senior Services on Main Street in North Conway.

Graham also plans to tour Tee Enterprises on West Main Street at 1 p.m. in Conway Village, and attend an editorial board meeting at The Conway Daily Sun at 2 p.m.

Graham, who has been polling near the back of the pack since he entered the race in June, said he will try and emulate his friend, McCain, who upset George W. Bush in New Hampshire in 2000 by holding more than 100 town hall meetings here.

"I was with John McCain when he was fifth in a four-person race," Graham said last week. "He did 100 town hall meetings in New Hampshire. I'm going to try to duplicate that. I think I'm the best person to be commander in chief. And I thank God for Iowa and New Hampshire, because it gives a person like me a chance."

Graham, who has frequently been joined on the stump by McCain in New Hampshire, including this past weekend, supported McCain's presidential bid in 2000 and served as national co-chairman for his 2008 presidential bid.

Graham informally announced that he'd run for president on "CBS This Morning" on May 18, saying he was running because he believes "the world is falling apart."

He made an official announcement on June 1,

"I wouldn't be running in New Hampshire if I thought I couldn't win in New Hampshire," Graham said in July in Manchester. "It will be good for our party to have my voice."

In poll released by CBS News on Sunday, based on data collected Oct. 4-8, Graham sat in 12th place at zero percent along with Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal and former New York Gov. George Pataki.

The poll has businessman Donald Trump at 27 percent, followed by Dr. Ben Carson, 21 percent; Sen. Ted Cruz of Texas, 9 percent; Sen. Marco Rubio of Florida, 8 percent; businesswoman Carly Fiorina, 6 percent; former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush, 6 percent; Sen. Rand Paul of Kentucky, 4 percent; New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie, 3 percent; Ohio Gov. John Kasich, 2 percent; former Arkansas Gov. Mike Huckabee, 2 percent; Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania, 1 percent; Graham, Jindal and Pataki, 0 percent.

Graham, 60, has been senator from South Carolina since 2003, and senior senator since 2005.

Graham served in the United States Air Force from 1982-88 and served as a guardsman in the South Carolina Air National Guard (1989-95 ) and in the Air Force Reserves (1995-2015), attaining the rank of colonel.

On Tuesday, Sen. Graham responded to reports of Iran's apparent test launch of a new ballistic missile capable of reaching Israel and other U.S. allies.

"Iran's apparent test launch of a new precision-guided ballistic missile capable of hitting Israel and other U.S. allies is dangerous new evidence of President Obama's disastrous policies and complete lack of leadership in the Middle East," he said. "After capitulating to Iran on every major negotiating objective in his nuclear deal, which is set to release over $100 billion in funds to the Iranian regime, the Ayatollah has demonstrated exactly how he will use that money: building its war machine and strengthening its capacity to wreak havoc in the Middle East, terrorize our allies, and directly threaten the security of the United States.

Graham, who has never been married, is also known for his willingness to be bipartisan and work with Democrats on issues like global warming, tax reform and immigration reform and his belief that judicial nominees should not be opposed solely on their philosophical positions.

In 2011, Graham co-sponsored with Sen. Jeanne Shaheen (D-N.H.) Senate Resolution 175, wherewith he contended that "Russia's invasion of Georgian land in 2008 was an act of aggression, not only to Georgia but to all new democracies." The resolution passed unanimously.

Graham is also a critic of the Tea Party movement, arguing for a more inclusive Republican Party. He has been referred to by Tea Party opponents as, a "moderate Republican." Graham describes himself, however, as a "Reagan-style Republican," and has been described as a fairly conservative Republican with "a twang of moderation" and as having "an independent streak."

On Monday, during a No Labels Problem Solver convention in Manchester, as one of the only Republican presidential candidates to repeatedly bring up climate change in the press and during campaign stops, Graham began by asking the audience if anyone there believed climate change was real. Nearly half of the attendees raised their hands and applauded.

"I do, too," Graham said. "So here's the trade-off. For those of you who believe climate change is real, you're gonna have to deal with a guy like me who will push a lower carbon economy over time and in a business friendly way. The great trade-off is energy producers and environmentalists in a room trying to find, over a 50-year period, a way to go to a lower-carbon economy while in the meantime responsibly exploring for fossil fuels that we own and trying to create alternative energy in every sector of the economy."

Gee, Carly’s media bump has disappeared. Now imagine if Ted Cruz had gotten more airtime at the last debate instead of the ‘worst to first’ upgrade for Carly (she was promoted from the secondary debate group to the first and given top time along with Trump). Mission accomplished.

If he can get a bunch of Dems to cross over to vote for him because he would be the weakest candidate, then he might do what McCain did, but I think Pataki or Carly will get that prize.

The operative piece in this article is ....Graham, who has never been married.... Another key indicator of a RINO is when they start talking about "my good friend...." outside of the Senate....

I could describe myself as Einstein-style physicist, but it wouldn’t make me one.

He and McCain should be in prison awaiting trial for violating the Patriot Act. Supporting a known terrorist group is against the law....oh wait!

Exempt.

Vunderbah!
