Yeah - it would be a lot better to let them all just vote Democrat and watch the Republican party wither and die. The country is rapidly becoming more Hispanic, like it or not. Organizations that don't change stagnate and die.

In the recent Houston mayoral race, the conservative Republican candidate was hispanic, and he won the hispanic vote convincingly. Only overwhelming black voter for the incumbent mayor, along with a massive program to escort black voters to the polls, caused his defeat by a very few overall votes.

Conservative does not mean anti-hispanic as your editorialized headline suggests.

Can you believe these people are taking up for their parties?

When they take forty to fifty percent of their incomes, is it that easy to fool them.

Once our workers can communicate directly with the Hispanic voter, the DemocRATS will have lost their secret weapon, the lie.

My wife is first generation American from Colombia but has painfully strived to learn her English. I have my languages but use them only as a courtesy or for more privacy in conversations in a public area. English should be the only language used by the United States government. Any other approach only disunifies us as a people.

On the other hand, the use of other languages is often a wonderful extended courtesy. In the case of people who only know that language, it would be the only way to reach them.

Still, as guests in our home, foreigners who want to be "Americans" should be compelled to learn English or encourage their children to do so as soon as possible.

Republicans have been AWOL on immigration policy and are now paying the consequences. In other words, it's too late. The cat is already out of the bag. So, the only hope now is to act like RATs - i.e. pander based on ethnicity. Gender and race can't be far behind.

I have no problem with speaking spanish as a second language for our politicians. The problem I have is that they choose to politicize it by taking a two week crash course to make it an issue.

What have they been doing in the last two years of Bush campaigning for president or for the last year.

Not only does it make Hispanics appear as pawns as though they can be manipulated to think whatever they want them to think. As to say, "ok I speak spanish will you vote for me". Most politicians are just learning another way, I believe, to spin in a different language. If their message is that important get an interpreter to go on the stump with you and take the time necessary to learn the language.

Positive Spin (as Terry McAuliffe would do it):

President Bush won 35 percent of Hispanic votes vs. 9 percent of black votes)!

Hence, GW got 4 times the Hispanic vote as the blacks.

Also, I read that GW got 63% of the Azerbaijan-American vote.

Hence, comparing the Azerbaijan's to blacks GW got 7 X the vote.

Here in Texas we have 2 latino Democrats running for governor. Morales and Sanchez. Supposedly one of their debates will be in Spanish only. Sign of the times.

"Hispanic communities should be able to hear in their native tongue about the Republican policies designed to help the special interests at the expense of working families." Bush pitches in

If the "Hispanic communities" want to hear about the Republican policies, they should learn to speak and understand our native tongue, English!

"We can't survive as a party without getting more of the Hispanic vote," said Matthew Dowd, a pollster and senior adviser to the RNC. "The writing is on the wall."

Isn't this the message, at root, of Pat Buchanan's latest book?

I guess ol' Pat has more true believers than one might think.

"Democrats hope to keep the skepticism alive, pointing out that the Republican Party is not traditionally friendly to Hispanic causes"

And just what would those "causes" be that democrats pander to?
