AUSTIN, Texas -- The intensified drive to draw Hispanic voters to the Republican Party isn't a voluntary mission of political correctness, but a matter of sheer necessity at the ballot box.

Worried that legions of campaign workers across the country can't speak the fastest-growing language of political importance, the Republican National Committee is sending key workers to intense Spanish language classes. For up to two weeks, GOP officials from selected states will immerse themselves in vocabulary and conversation at the Berlitz Language School in Washington.

In't it ironic that Mexico has one of the strictest immigrato policies due to there population.

The do not let anyone in.

Especially the immigrants from South America.

Why don't the people talk about about Mexico's immigration policies.

Americans can be lead so easily.

Positive Spin (as Terry McAuliffe would do it):

President Bush won 35 percent of Hispanic votes vs. 9 percent of black votes)!

Hence, GW got 4 times the Hispanic vote as the blacks.

Also, I read that GW got 63% of the Azerbaijan-American vote.

Hence, comparing the Azerbaijan's to blacks GW got 7 X the vote.

I guess when the Republicans feel like getting some black votes, they'll start learning ebonics in hopes of winning some over. It's stupid too----Reagan won pretty well by speaking a strong Conservative message in English.

Why is reaching out to voters who speak Spanish a bad thing? Care to do some 'splainin'?

Even though your question was not addressed to me, I do wish to offer an answer.
First off anyone voting must be a citizen, natural born or naturalized. I can not for the life of me understand why a natural born citizen wouldn't understand English.
Second, in order to pass a test to become a naturalized citizen, a person needs to demonstrate proficiency in the use of English language.

Would you please explain why, if a natural born citizen and a naturalized citizen are conversant in English, should we need to accommodate anyone by speaking to them in any language but English? Could it be that the communication in Spanish will be to 'non-citizens'? If so, why should anyone give a damn because they can't or at least aren't suppose to be voting anyway? Let them learn the language of the land like so many millions of other nationalities before them!

Here is my question to you.
Do you have a problem with the GOP learning spanish in order to speak to the spanish speaking community about conservative principles?

OR

Do you have a problem with the GOP learning Spanish in order to speak because they shouldn't HAVE to speak spanish to a group of Americans?

Around here the immigrants keep coming and we have and have had a chronically high unemployment rate. It's completely silly to believe it's just jobs that attract them. This area is now being called an economic disaster area in need of massive federal funds. No jobs and loads of illegals.

I saw Bush when he came here and he did speak Spanish to the crowd ---he did it in a way that was good, I doubt anyone minded. The democrat gubernatorial candidates will be holding debates in Spanish (not bi-lingual, they'll be in Spanish only), it's not a good trend for the US.

American taxpayers who have worked their whole lives and their parents and grand parents lives to save and build decent homes and neighborhoods only to watch these immigrants destroy the schools, the parks, the transportation system right before our eyes.

The rich and our so called Politicians and leaders here in California live in guarded super nice communities that are secure, and super nice clean communities, that price the average American and the illegals out.

Everyone thinks Southern California is a third world, and some parts are. However, there is tons and tons of money in Southern California and the rich and our so-called leaders have built extremely tall financial fences.

There are many areas in Southern California where the third worlders and illegals are completely locked out due to these tall financial fences. Large areas of $300,000 homes and *UP* do an excellent job of keeping the average American and the millions of illegal out. Huge areas of million PLUS dollar homes are common place.

The politicians live in these very nice areas, so they don't give a damn about you or your daughters and grandkids. You see, the politicians and our so called leaders are protected by their tall financial fences in their super nice areas. *THEIR* daughters and grandkids wont have to worry about living in the low lands with, and living among the millions of illegals aliens like many rank and file Americans have to.

The politicians don't give a damn about you or me. Their big decision is what to wear to the next luncheon or TV interview, or deciding which party to go to tonight. Just watch the next political interview on CNN or FOX. Its an absolute joke and an endless parade of idiots from the two beltway parties exchanging tit for tats and arguing about meaningless bull sh*t.

Why is it bad for the GOP to reach out to hispanics? Because hispanics aren't white. You know, it is people like 'expose' who gives racists a bad name. -:]

Because it is nothing but pandering for votes. It has nothing to do with whether or not hispanics are white. I agree with expose and I'm no racist (don't think you'd call expose a racist either if you look back at his/her posts).

English is the language spoken in America. Once upon a time, immigrants came to America and did all they could to learn the english language. They were proud to learn english and even prouder to become American citizens.

Today, we have immigrants, illegal and legal, who come to our country and expect America to kow-tow to THEIR culture and language. I think we need to return to the good old days.

In many other countries, some of them third-worlders, children are taught ENGLISH in school. Why? Because that is the language spoken in America.

Have you been watching TV lately? Does it seem odd to you that nearly every Afghani interviewed speaks ENGLISH?? Meanwhile, in America, we're being told that we need to learn Spanish??

Nearly 40 percent of those granted legal permanent residence in the United States in 1999 and 2000 were from five countries: Mexico, China, the Philippines, India and Vietnam, according to the INS. Sixty-nine percent -- 584,100 -- of legal immigrants in 2000 were sponsored by family members; 13 percent were employment preferences; and 8 percent were asylum-seekers or refugees.

Sixty-six percent of those granted legal permanent residence in 2000 lived in California, Florida, Illinois, New Jersey, New York and Texas, INS officials said.

but the key to politics is in one key premise - and that is (are you listening?) WINNING ELECTIONS.

Spoken like a true democratic ward heeler - have you ever heard of principles?

Boy, this should make everyone in Texico, Ops, I mean Texas, feel better.

You are far more upset about it than the average Texan.

What a shock. They speak spanish in the podunk border towns in Texas.

Since that has been the case since before Texas was Texas, you'll have to forgive us for not getting all worked up.

GOP Has done nothing to stop this.

Because the leadership in both parties believe that they should go by the United Nations laws.

Which calls for open boarders of all countries.
