Prayer Request: Legal Troubles.
Dangus

Posted on 11/24/2018 1:38:38 AM PST by dangus

Please pray for me. I am in some legal trouble.

I went to a car dealership to trade in my car. I was already under extreme stress, to the point that I was having health problems. A young dealer wanted to trade his own car for mine, rather than one off the lot. I should've backed out, but was desperate to be done with the stresser; I had traveled far to get to him, and was having to drive side roads because, as I made clear, my car needed work.

I met him the next day for the exchange. Because the car wasn't from the dealership, he couldn't give me those temporary dealer plates. At his instructions, we swapped plates on the cars, so we each drove home on the plates we had been given by the DMV.

Apparently, this is a serious crime. I had no idea; it made sense to swap plates, so that the police would identify the car with me. I was doing what the dealer told me to do.

I'm facing jail time. With a sickly wife, and a 6-year-old with hormone deficiencies who depends on me utterly.

Do you have any kind of paperwork from the dealership to support your story?

make sure the court hears the whole story and subpoena the salesman if you can.

Also you can call the dealer who owns the car store, and ask him to help somehow. He could agree to pay any fine for you because he has a really bad acting salesperson in his shop who used his position to benefit himself and not the dealership.Go see the dealer , make an appointment for a polite face to face.

Dear Heavenly Father:

Please put your mighty hand upon dangus, his family, and the young dealer. Grant Your peace and joy to dangus and resolve the situation in a manner that gives You glory. Use this situation to help bring others to a saving knowledge of Your Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. Use it also to increase dangus’s faith in You.

we all make mistakes. Make sure the judge hears you out. You will likely get some kind of punishment. Good luck.

Are you sure you’re facing jail time? That sounds pretty extreme for a situation like this.

Improper registration is usually just a fine. It’s almost never a jail sentence.

Did you get pulled over and cited?

I would have assumed that as well. Apparently swapped plates is considerably more serious than expired? And if the insurance situation isn't squared away that probably compounds it.

Probably the first thing a cop thinks when he runs plates that come back for a different car is "stolen car."

I’ll be praying for you.

Get a lawyer if you can afford one. At least call one up. I was in a terrible car accident and needed some advice. As in my case they gave me legal advice over the phone (no charge) as to what to tell the judge to minimize any legal implications. But a written prepared statement helps clarify the thoughts of what to (and what not to) say.

It most likely will be a headache and an inconvenience.

I recently bought my wife a a late model used car from a dealership. They took the plates off of her old car and put them on the new car. You usually have 48 hours to contact your insurance carrier to change the coverage.
