Apologists Concerned About Rick Warren's Alignment With 'Holy Father'
Charisma News ^ | 12/3/14 | Mark Andrews

"Christian unity" is one of those terms that stir up a whole spectrum of—sometimes emotional—opinions.

On the one hand, we know that Jesus prayed to the Father concerning future believers "that all of them may be one, Father, just as you are in me and I am in you" (John 17:21a, NIV).

On the other hand, charismatics know it is almost pointless to discuss the gifts of the Holy Spirit (1 Cor. 12, 14) with Baptists or most anyone else from a mainline denomination. And Protestants of just about any stripe get riled up when they hear Catholics talking about papal infallibility or their adoration of the Virgin Mary.

It's on this latter point that Rick Warren, senior pastor of Saddleback Church in Lake Forest, California, and successful author, has waded into a hornet's nest of controversy by telling a Catholic News Service interviewer that Protestants and Catholics "have far more in common than what divides us" and that Catholics do not "worship Mary like she's another god."

Regarding Warren's view that Catholics do not worship Mary, Matt Slick, writing on the website of the Christian Apologetics & Research Ministry, goes into great detail with material from Roman Catholic sources that say Mary is "the all holy one," is to be prayed to, worshipped, that she "brings us the gifts of eternal life" and she "made atonement for the sins of man."

If that's not putting her in the place of Christ as a god-like figure to be worshipped, then what is it?

"We believe in Trinity, the Bible, the resurrection, and that salvation is through Jesus Christ. These are the big issues," Warren says. "But the most important thing is if you love Jesus, we're on the same team."

To Warren's point about being on the same team, Slick.....

Every storefront has the "true" Gospel".

And you could have 500 storefront churches preaching the true gospel if they are preaching the word of God.

God does not demand doctrinal or congregational unity for salvation.

If they preach the gospel according to Scripture, then the fact that they are administered by individuals who are not affiliated in a business endeavor, is irrelevant.

“Not yet...”

Actually, yes, already. None of the verses you posted contradicted what I said. Orthodox Christians understand the different ways the word “sleep” is used in the Bible. Some heretics (all coming from/out of the Protestant movement, of course, don’t). You have failed again.

And as before, when you apparently can’t make an argument that actually works, you start posting pictures. Thanks for confirming I was right by your actions. I was wondering how long it would take.

>>What would happen in Rick Warren converted to Catholicism?<<

He in all probability will. But it won't be the Catholicism as you understand it. It will include parts of all religions.

God tells us to have no OTHER gods before Him, not *strange* gods, because that leaves room for familiar gods.

Here you can look it up in the Hebrew yourself.

Our local C&MA (Alliance) congregation’s building was shared with Hmong until they got their own building several years back. The Montagnard worshipped with us at our same services.

Building burned to the ground later.

Now we attend a Bible church. They want me to wear a tie. More prot traditions to contend with.

Nice of Rick to simply restate the facts but I'm concerned about the Pope or any Catholic getting a bit too close to Rick Warren's Brokeback Church "go along to get along Christianity"

Arguing the straw-man BS about Catholics worshiping Mary depends entirely on a definition for adoration that wasn't in any dictionary until after the turn of the twentieth century and even then or now not the primary definition but one of several possible usages. Adoration and worship are two different things so people who play word games about worshiping Mary just prove they're so desperate they'll try anything to hide the fact that nearly everything they claim to believe is based on one heresy after another.

Such folks start with denying the power and perfection of the Holy Spirit which destroys the Trinity then proceed through embracing the heresy of Core that Jude warns us about God the Father Himself punishing in the book of Numbers and it's obvious that there's nothing but one heresy after another outside the Catholic/Orthodox Church.

No wonder they refuse to stick to the Truth when they make their arguments.

Regards

>>By claiming that Mary is mother of God, they deny Jesus’ humanity and the Incarnation.<<

Exactly! And if Jesus was born from a sinless parent He isn't "like us in every way".

Hebrews 2:17 wherefore it did behove him in all things to be made like to the brethren, that he might become a kind and stedfast chief-priest in the things with God, to make propitiation for the sins of the people,

I just chuckled. What would happen in Rick Warren converted to Catholicism?

So what if he did.

What do you expect to happen?

No wonder they refuse to stick to the Truth when they make their arguments.

To a Roman Catholic, the truth is what the RCC has indoctrinated them to believe, many since birth.

To a non-RCC Christian, the Truth is the Lord Jesus Christ and Him alone.

Christians, as opposed to Roman Catholic church members not born again of the Spirit, believe/have faith in the Word of God and not in a group of unregenerate men dictating the current version of their truth to RCC members as they deem necessary.

>>She simply is revered as the Blessed Mother,<<

Yeah, here is one of those "we only revere her" prayers.

Enraptured by the splendor of your heavenly beauty, and impelled by the anxieties of the world, we cast ourselves into your arms, O Immaculate Mother of Jesus and our Mother, Mary, confident of finding in your most loving heart appeasement of our ardent desires, and a safe harbor from the tempests which beset us on every side.

Though degraded by our faults and overwhelmed by infinite misery, we admire and praise the peerless richness of sublime gifts with which God has filled you, above every other mere creature, from the first moment of your conception until the day on which, after your assumption into heaven, He crowned you Queen of the Universe.

O crystal fountain of faith, bathe our minds with the eternal truths! O fragrant Lily of all holiness, captivate our hearts with your heavenly perfume! O Conqueress of evil and death, inspire in us a deep horror of sin, which makes the soul detestable to God and a slave of hell!

O well-beloved of God, hear the ardent cry which rises up from every heart. Bend tenderly over our aching wounds. Convert the wicked, dry the tears of the afflicted and oppressed, comfort the poor and humble, quench hatreds, sweeten harshness, safeguard the flower of purity in youth, protect the holy Church, make all men feel the attraction of Christian goodness. In your name, resounding harmoniously in heaven, may they recognize that they are brothers, and that the nations are members of one family, upon which may there shine forth the sun of a universal and sincere peace.

Receive, O most sweet Mother, our humble supplications, and above all obtain for us that, one day, happy with you, we may repeat before your throne that hymn which today is sung on earth around your altars: You are all-beautiful, O Mary! You are the glory, you are the joy, you are the honor of our people! Amen. [Prayer of Pope Pius XII]

How many attributes of God alone are there attributed to Mary? Catholics worship and pray TO Mary.

...”Or the devil to use and misquote”....

Oh Exactly, his tactics have not changed from those used in the garden and often used by any promoting their “churchianity”, from cults to false religions and all in between.

Which is why it’s so critical people read the scriptures and ask the Lord to teach them as they read.

Nowhere in the Bible is she referred to as the Mother of God or Queen of Heaven. I’ll defer to God as to how He handles things that are above my pay grade.

>>1. I am the LORD your God: you shall not have strange Gods before me.<<

2. Thou shalt not make unto thee any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: You shall not bow down to them or serve them,

That's the commandment the Catholics leave out. Notice it does NOT say "bow down and serve". It says bow down OR serve.
