Interesting discussion yesterday with a variety of opinions. Just curious what some here might believe and why...

God created an angel. The angel chose to rebel. Man chose to follow him.

But...

God knows the past, the present, and the future...

Which means that, God knew what Satan would become, and he still chose to create him.

I think they just know the prophecy and know it is true. Remember, demons used to be angels, so they would have had knowledge of God far more directly than we do. Satan could quote the Bible verse for verse when he tempted Jesus in the wilderness, too.

Now, their behavior may seem strange, but we do all sorts of inexplicable things too, when we are under the influence of our sinful natures. Also, they probably know that they have no chance of redemption at this point, so their is no “carrot” to entice them to behave.

He is the “Prince of lies”....he believes his own press clippings!

He knows the ultimate outcome and is a “suicide bomber”. His goal is take down as many souls as possible before the final judgement.

Maybe his overwhelming pride makes it impossible for him to see and accwpt the truth of God’s superior power.

Satan knows full well he was defeated by Christ at the Cross

Do you remember the scene in The Passion of the Christ, immediately following the death of Jesus, when Satan screams and screams...? My pastor is still convinced that he was screaming in triumph. I said that, at that point, he knew he had lost! It's only a movie, but it kind of fits with the topic of the thread.

Satan was one of God’s beloved and most beautiful angels. One who fell from grace after believing and acting upon the assumption that he too, could be as God.

Of course, this is a highly annotated version, and I’m not quite sure it isn’t a metaphor for mans own dilemma.

...he was made perfect

Does not compute...

Since, if God created Satan, he didn't create him perfect, because, anything "perfect" would not be corruptible.

If Satan was God's creation, God did not create a perfect being.

Besides, like I wrote in another response to another poster, if God knows the past and present and future, God "knew" that Satan would become "imperfect" all along, therefore, God decided to create something that he (God) knew to be imperfect and evil.

Of course he does even though he's a defeated foe.

It's similar to what happened in World War II. One reason why the U.S. felt they had to drop two H-Bombs on Japan was because the Japanese would just keep on fighting regardless of their hopeless situation.

I tend to think he still believes he can win. Based on the Isaiah text... I think it’s certain he at one time thought he could win. Could be “like God”.... which is also what he tempted Eve with ..”eat this and you will be like God”.

“Why would God create something so evil and so imperfect?”

Well, if Satan was created with free will, then he wasn’t created evil, or imperfect, unless you consider free will itself to be imperfection. It’s one of the possible consequences of free will that results in the evil, but it’s also one of the consequences that results in good.

Virtue only has meaning when it’s performed without compulsion or self-interest. So, if free will, and the possibility of choosing evil, was removed, then there really wouldn’t be any meaning to the good that we might do. Basically, it would be a universe where nobody ever apologized because they meant it, but always because their Mom and Dad were forcing them to.

Satan “wins” in gathering souls to himself - evil - and from God. He’s in a contest to control humanity and make people suffer. He hates God and looks at man, whom God created and loves, as a dispicable creation. He hates human life. Satan mocks God by showing Him how people are evil; falling to Satan’s call to do the opposite of what God wants and rejecting God and what He created man to be.

Satan will have his time on earth to recruit and harm people, then he’ll be cut off. He hates humanity - God’s creation and he hates God. In the end days he’ll work fast and furious to reap souls (people who fall to evil and who reject God and His nature). Satan enjoys the imposition of torment, suffering, fear and death on humanity because he’s at war with God who loves mankind. Fallen humanity is Satan’s prize.

No, Satan doesn’t think he can defeat God. Satan’s only plan is taking as many of God’s children with him as he can. Victory was never the plan as he knows he can’t win.

So if we think about it... Satan starts with everyone already his. Right... we’re born into sin since the fall. He doesn’t have to work to get anybody on is side. They are already there. He doesn’t have to recruit anyone. He doesn’t have to gather souls to himself. They start out as his since the fall. God’s side has to work to reclaim them.

>"do we think they know the future."

Eternity exists before, during, and after, what we perceive as time/space.

It's a difficult concept to grasp. Our limited perception is a big mental block. The fish don't know they are in a fishbowl. Just because you can't see it doesn't mean it doesn't/didn't/always exist.

It is what Milton thought Satan would say. It is a famous quote and I had quote marks around it. Educate yourself.
