The enemy revealed (why Christianity is losing the younger generation—and what to do about it)

We are losing our children! Research indicates that 70% of teens who are involved in a church youth group will stop attending church … [1]

Similar statements from Christian leaders aren’t new, but many still can’t seem to identify the root cause of the problem. However, most front-line evangelists in the Western world have reached a consensus. The following quote is from a person who shares his faith more times in a month than most Christians ever will in their lives...

The insult was cute and all (you could have saved several words by merely calling me a doodyhead) but the fact remains that you are dodging a real challenge to your intellectual views.

The God you claim to worship and His earliest followers talked about the "simplified, allegorical version of God’s creation" as if it was a series of real events that determined major doctrines of the Faith. In fact, since the God you claim to worship is described as the Creator of all things, if He created via evolution he was repeating allegory as if it was true events even though He knew better because He was there when it happened.

How do you explain that?

And wouldn't you agree that either you or I could easily write an allegory of evolution that would be much closer to the "facts" than Genesis 1? I mean, you claim that this "allegory" was written by God Almighty ("all Scripture is God-breathed"), but the cosmic events aren't even in the right order. Wouldn't you agree that if you or I wrote it we could put the Sun before plants, birds after land animals and women and men arriving at the same time without freaking out the "audience of ignorant peasants devoid of scientific understanding?"

Why couldn't God do a better job than this?

Excellent post overall, but as to parts of Genesis being allegorical, please see and answer my post 261.

The God you claim to worship and His earliest followers talked about the "simplified, allegorical version of God’s creation" as if it was a series of real events that determined major doctrines of the Faith.

The God who told us what He did in the Bible, however, had no reason to make the creation account allegory, since He could have explained it in terms simple and concise enough for anyone in any culture to understand and still have it be true and accurate and not allegory.

Oh, wait a minute.....

In fact, since the God you claim to worship is described as the Creator of all things, if He created via evolution he was repeating allegory as if it was true events even though He knew better because He was there when it happened.

Then that would make Him out to be a liar. Not necessarily because he used allegory, but because He passes it off as truth. There's nothing in the places where Jesus talks about the creation account and the Flood in Genesis where He indicates to His followers that they are to take it to be allegorical.

Ah, the “I’m rubber, you’re glue” retort—I didn’t expect that!

What sort of infantile nimwit are you? You weren't attacking me when you mentioned the peasants were you? Because if you were it really demonstrates your lunacy. But assuming you are somewhat rational, since you were attacking them, it is hard for me to be the target to bounce off of. That said, I will repeat, it shows clearly your lack of knowledge of the people you attacked. That is abundantly clear.

Now you’re in trouble with the cult!

You are certainly an arrogant little (fill in the blank). You attempt to speak for nearly every group. Why don't you engage your brain once in a while? Or is it so rusted shut that it is incapable of moving beyond the nursery? That said, I don't worry about what others think about what I think.

“Then that would make Him out to be a liar. “

I share your frustration, Mr. S. She simply does not understand what allegory is. To her, Herman Melville was a liar, not a novelist.

You have extreme difficulty in backing up your assertion. In fact, you can't. Your bluster and bluff are not up to the task.

"Do you deny that the people in those groups are Christians?"

Buck, you seem to be missing something that anyone that has done much reading of the NT should know:

Christianity is not a group accomplishment. Your Christianity is solely between you and Christ. Belonging to a group does not confer salvation upon your soul!

When a church 'confirms' you for membership, that is not salvation, its only membership in the congregation.

"Funny, but a majority, no, a supermajority of Christians disagrees with you."

No Buck, only the tares disagree. All the real Christians that have had their own life-changing experience with the Lord agree strongly, because they believe him that said "Not every one that saith unto me, Lord, Lord, shall enter into the kingdom of heaven; but he that doeth the will of my Father which is in heaven"

What? Christianity is not democracy where the most votes wins? There goes the super majority!

Problem is, petitfour, that God gave the church the job of feeding the poor, etc. and we’ve failed. Now government has taken over what should have been OUR responsibility. The church is at fault.
