I don’t think this will survive a court challenge. If we really want this there will need to be an amendment to Kentucky’s constitution.
So the Kentucky legislature has a supermajority so could override a veto of the bill.

Turtle and his minions kept Ky from having a GOP gov.
He resigned his Leader position. He is remaining in the Senate.
80% in the house, 31 to 7 in senate
I know. Have you seen him lately? MUCH more frail than Slow Joe. He’s gone on complete vapor lock at the podium a few times. Cross your fingers and hope this gets done.
Thank you. I haven’t seen him lately.
Court will find this unconstitutional. Stupid. Political big time.
I don’t want Beshear to have this authority but difficult to believe this is constitutional given the constitution says it is the governor’s authority.
They may be able to get by with requiring a special election within a shortened period of time to fill the remainder of the term, however, and that pass constitutional muster.
Time to repeal the 17th Amendment and return to the original Constitution in selecting senators.
What’s going with McConnell health wise? He makes Biden look vigorous and well. Do you think he’ll last out the term? Appearance wise, three years looks like a long shot for him.
The law was changed a couple of years ago so what gives?
DITTO! Can they take steps to change the Kentucky Constitution? They need to think long term.
Very true, but that just makes him another fish in the pond; SUBJECT TO PREDATION!
Get around the 17th Amendment... and get the Governor out of the decision and appointment. But the same governor has to sign this, and surely won’t unless it is veto proof and passed w/out the OK of the gov. Beshears a demo-rat.
His term ends in 2026.
I’m dreaming of a lack of confusion.
Sorry but this kinda bill will backfire on conservatives when our people are in office. Better for the people to decide. Then the fault lays solely upon the voters for making crappy decisions.
Too many “cut outs” for politicians to deny responsibility for not putting our policies in action
