Fate of Tester and Schumer's Senate majority could hinge on Montana abortion initiative

A proposed state constitutional amendment on abortion access could boost Sen. Jon Tester’s (D-MT) reelection chances in Montana if added to next year’s ballot.

Favorable results for abortion rights activists in off-year ballot initiatives in Ohio and Kansas have prompted some Democratically-aligned groups to push for similar questions to be posed to voters in Montana, where Tester’s race will likely decide control of the U.S. Senate.

Planned Parenthood Action Fund submitted a ballot initiative in the Treasure State late last month that, if affirmed, would enshrine Montanans with the right to make decisions about their pregnancy, including if they want to obtain an abortion, in the state constitution.

Getting the question added to the 2024 ballot will be an intensive and lengthy process, but if successful, it will be a major boon to Democrats’ hopes of keeping their Senate majority.

Whatever it takes to increase their turnout, they will do.

Unlike our side, with a worthless Romney at the helm.

Tester in Montana, Manchin in West Virginia, Sherrod Brown in Ohio and Sinema in Arizona are the 4 we should be most heavily targeting. Red states should not be sending Democrats to the Senate. How many Blue states send Republicans to the Senate? Not many.

These state abortion initiatives turn out the Democrat base like 2nd Amendment initiative turn out the GOP base.

The question is if the high turnouts will ebb when they are all passed?

Perhaps this is a true sign of where the population is on abortion. We see it motivates the opposition; why does it not motivate our side?
Who are the candidates most outspoken about pro-life issues? I would combine all the transgender, surgical mutilation, killing babies, human trafficking into one message and hang it on them - it most certainly fits.
Unfortunately, my take on it is there is too much money on both sides to make in continuing the argument (such as the race-baiters). We will need to face an ugly truth about the moral fiber of our nation - a lot has been done the last 30 years to undo what was left of it.

Because NOTHING is as important to the idiot soccer mom demographic as the right to kill their unborn at anytime up to the moment of birth?

The dedication of the left to the see destruction of innocent babies in the womb is amazing. The coming judgement upon an impenitent nation will be even more amazing.

I think it is beyond soccer mom mentality. I perceive it more as a female perspective - the argument has been shaped it is solely the female response to these challenges that matter. Women have had this pushed in their face for decades; not being a woman, I can not determine the force of that push has on a population. I assume it is the same as the instruction of a minority class and the rights they are deserved in a democracy - any opposition to this teaching you are the oppressor. I encountered a few women of this mindset in college

I thought the whole point of a republic was to prevent mob democracy where the pagans run the show by voting on individual issues. How do these things or “initiatives” get on election ballots? They are toxic and stink of unconstitutionality. They NEVER go in the direction of sensible law.

Abortion is the rat’s golden ticket. If the GOP knew how to conduct political war they would get these initiatives put on August primary ballots

The GOP should take the Senate next year if they don
t blow it again. It would be a good thing to get McConnell out of leadership or the majority will again be worthless.

The Supreme Court was kind enough to return the decisions about Abortion back to the States.

The GOP needs to acknowledge that Abortion laws should be State based, and based upon the votes of STATE representatives. Here lies the national GOP failure in that somehow the GOP can’t educate people to understand that Federal Elections for Senate or House have ZERO impact on state Abortion rights.

The national GOP should create advertising message that tells people the truth, Abortion is now a State issue, not Federal. Elect your Federal Representative for Federal issues: like illegal immigration, balanced budget, basic Constitutional bill of rights freedoms, economic growth, wars, treaties, Social Security, Welfare. The Democrats will get destroyed on all of those.

In a year or two abortion will be as irrelevant as the death penalty issue is now to state voters. Decided and done.

My late wife was a sweet and wonderful person who loved being pregnant and having each of our three daughters. The thought of abortion was even more abhorrent to her than it was to me. I honestly can't understand the modern womyn mentality.

I was wondering what Narrative the Montana Democrats were going to use to snail Tester back into office.

I ran the numbers, and there was NO WAY he was going to overcome the Trump 2024 numbers in the state.

It will be an early Festivus Miracle in November 2024, like 2012, when Claire "The Shrieking Lefty Hag" McCaskill beat Mitt Romney's numbers in Missouri, whilst Romney was thrashing the Halfrican by a quarter of a million votes.

Interestingly, you couldn't vote straight ticket in Missouri in 2012 - so that was a feat in itself...
