Silicon Valley investors who purchased vast swathes of land in California has said they now have all the acreage they need to create a new 'walkable and green' utopian city.
Flannery Associates LLC has spent more than $800 million discreetly buying up areas around Travis Air Force Base in Solano County over several years, for a project dubbed 'California Forever'.
The billionaires behind the group, whose identities were finally revealed at the end of August, acquired around 814 more acres in October, meaning it now owns more than 53,000 acres in the region.
Flannery says the proposed new city will be 'walkable and green', create thousands of jobs and 'bring back the California Dream' - against the backdrop of the steep economic and social decline of nearby San Francisco.
But the project has been criticized by locals over potential impacts on the agricultural economy and air base security.

As long as they used their own money, that’s fine. Maybe they will be able to design a walkable city that is livable.
California sucks, tech billionaires suck, utopias suck, greenies suck. But still, we need some new cities, we need to build things, we need stop being such a lazy consumer country. So building a city is a good project. Whether this one in particular is or not, who knows.
Have any of these planned cities worked out as expected?
This is hardly a new idea. Columbia, Maryland; Reston, Virginia; Celebration, Florida, are just a few places which were planned to be self contained cities, and not just another suburban or bedroom community.
It would be interesting to know if these planned communities worked out the way they expected. I’m sure the developers of this new planned city have studied places such as I’ve noted.
The problem with planned cities is that they don’t design them in the way people work. They design them in the way they want people to work. So, they fail every time.
They could probably come up with something nice if they designed them around people and not try and force people to work around with how the city was designed.
So when the homeless and “dreamer immigrants” come to this Utopia and squat, defecate the streets, OD on drugs in the park and commit crimes, how will they respond?
Those paintings aren’t very diverse. There’s one fat black lady but she’s doing a double take at the stand saying “I can’t afford that sh*t on a housekeepers salary in Honkeytown!”
I can’t wait to see the level of fail that this turns into. It will take them years just to agree to the statement of unceded Tribal Lands.
Our elite can’t build or create anything, anymore.
They just cannibalize what was already there. (I would exclude Elon and his rockets).
The rest just “re-invent”: renting out rooms, running an illegal taxi, selling at the flea market, turning tricks.
Dress these up as high tech and an “app” and sell it for billions.
These clowns invented nothing new to either deal with corona, or help the Ukrainians in the war.
They are nothing !
How much “low income “ housing will the gov require ..?
Will there be a place for the homeless tent people?
But where will the “affordable housing crowd” live the ones that mow their lawns and clean the toilets
Detroit is underutilized.
As a bonus, the will have a entertainment feature called Carousel.
It would have to be a gated community for the wealthy. So they will import the immigrants to work there? They wouldn't want the natives to work, especially with the laws in California as it is right now.
Maybe we can send some illegals their way.
I lived in Columbia, MD 2000 - 2012. It mostly worked as planned, though crime was rising during the later period I was there.
Some apartment complex owners tried an experiment 2003 - 2005, if I recall the years correctly. They allowed a bunch of section 8 types to move in. Of course, these people did not follow the rules and many brought inner city behavior with them.
When the experiment failed, those breaking the community rules were evicted and no more Section 8 housing was allowed in Columbia.
Yeah...my first thought was...the “homeless” will LOVE this city! Let’s see how the billionaires handle THEM.
Ferals and illegals will make short work of these honkies, Indians, asians and their little city during SHTF.
Sounds like it could become one massive HOA. That’s okay if you like that sort of thing but a lot of folks regret moving to HOA neighborhoods.
