Democrats immediately rejected President Donald Trump’s offer of a work-permit amnesty for one million registered migrants in exchange for 230 miles of new border wall.
The rejection came even though Trump’s offer angered his base by trading a DACA temporary amnesty for a wall.
Also, Trump did not ask for the reform of the many catch-and-release rules which allow the cartels to profitably smuggle hundreds of thousands of poor migrants into the U.S. labor market, welfare rolls, and U.S. K-12 schools.
The speech came after Trump had offered a series of smaller concessions in closed-door negotiations since Christmas.
Democrats quickly dismissed the amnesty offer.
Sen. Chuck Schumer also rejected the compromise, saying, “offering some protections back in exchange for the wall is not a compromise but more hostage taking.

Time to shut the border, and declare the emergency...but then, that may be what the dems were pushing for...

Dems. are hurting the workers, the economy and security. There is great resentment toward the media and Dems. getting paid to do nothing Congress.
I am very happy they turned down amnesty. If there is to be any limited amnesty, it should be part of a whole immigration reform—full funding of wall, end all catch-and-release and instead legislate mandatory deportation of anyone entering or staying illegally in the US, implement e-Verify, and that limited amnesty should allow DACA to stay but NO WORK PERMITS and NO GOVERNMENT BENEFITS. Let them stay only and only for 3 more years.
I guess all those furloughed fed employees better tighten their belts.

The economy is good, thanks to Trump, so they should be able to get a job. And since they are federal union workers, they will do fine at any of the numerous fast food restaurants that are hiring.
I am the base. I listened to the speech, and there was no amnesty. "Temporary amnesty" is not amnesty and Trump did not offer anything more than temporary status and work permits. I don't know who wrote the sentence above but it seems designed to separate Trump from his base.
Great, I knew they would and so did Trump. He has in a box and they are screwed.
Prediction: President Trump orders the Border Wall on Super Bowl Sunday in a live, televised broadcast from the Oval Office while punting the re-opening of the gubmint to Congress.
The whole point of letting them stay is having them work

How in the world is this more hostage taking? This doesn’t even make sense. Illegal aliens are hostages? They can just stay home.

I am quite sure that Trump knew that going it. In essence, this was a “throw away” speech, in which Trump sets the hook in the RATs mouths more deeply. I still think that the National Emergency EO is coming before the end of the month.
Trump is going to have McConnell put his offer up for a Senate vote. That means every Senator has to go on the record voting either Yes, No or, Present. Once the Bill does not clear the Senate POTUS, Trump should declare a national emergency and get to work doing the bidding and direction from the vast majority of Americans. Trump has given the Democrat Party every opportunity to work together. Case Closed.
Pelosi will be gone in six months, Steny Hoyer is the new Democrat, Speaker of the House.
I don’t see Trump or the dems budging.
However ... the Republican controlled Senate? At some point they cave.
