WYOMING (WKZO AM/FM) -- Grief counselors will be on hand at Godfree Lee Public Schools in Wyoming this morning after the weekend drowning of a staff member at the School District.
Police say that it appears that 38-year-old Tracy Cashman died when she went through the ice trying to save her dog, during a walk through Battjes Park.
Cashmans Mother says they became concerned when Lola the dog returned home soaking wet without Cashman about 9pm Saturday night.
The family searched the park and then called police. Fire rescue crews recovered her body from a pond in the park.
Godfree-Lee Schools will hold a half-day session this morning. Cashman was the Assistant to the Director of the Operations Department.
Ironically, the dog returned home. I saw in another article that she had 3 children! What a tragedy.
sad but seems silly to blame it on the dog when no one was there to see what chain of events actually happen. The dog coulda got wet trying to help the woman who went in first. and depending on time of walk, it seems there was much time between going for walk and dog return home yet dog was all wet? would it not be part dry (woldn’t have been in water long or it would have likely succumbed too) or crystals of ice on coat depending on temp at 9pm? sad the woman died but this story is written as heart tug more than actual info that tells what happen other than wet dog alerted family who contacted authorities who found woman dead in pond.

There’s something wrong with a society that can’t deal with grief without calling in professionals.
There must have been a surveillance camera(s) somewhere in the vicinity! However, whenever I visit one of the parks in my area, I imagine that there are no cameras anywhere except for the occasional airplane or helicopter overhead.
What exactly does a brief counselor do?
Keep dog leashed for any number of reasons.0
How do they know it wasn’t the dog trying to save her?
I agree, it’s an excuse to pay their pals out of the taxpayers hide. A classmate was killed at one of the elementary schools I attended (hit by a bus). We didn’t need grief counselors.
The same thing as a preacher but without the prayer
A brief counselor is short and to the point.
Students sign up so they can miss class and whine about their mean parents
My brief counselor helped me give up boxers.
Tragic. I feel terrible for the children.
Just a quick conversation.
I'm puzzled as to why the schools (students?) would need counseling because of the death of a headquarters employee of whom they've probably never heard, unless she was a neighbor or went to their church, in which case they could talk to their parents or pastor.
Thats quite a bit iof insight nto a split second decision to try to save your dog
Or is it yet another admonition from the Freepers Guide to a Risk Free Life
