Thats quite a bit iof insight nto a split second decision to try to save your dog
Or is it yet another admonition from the Freepers Guide to a Risk Free Life
Try this one:
Years ago my wife braked hard when a dog darted out in front of her, causing the car to skid, go off the road and hit a guardrail. The car was wrecked (she walked away) and she took a lot of brief from people telling her that a dog in the road wasn't worth braking hard and risking your life for. She was feeling pretty bad about it, until I reminded her that when something runs out in front of you, by the time you've decided whether it's a worthless dog or someone else's precious time, your window of opportunity for braking has passed.

Not running out onto thin ice after a dog would be an exercise in thinking twice.
