Years ago I was walking on thin ice and fell through
A golden retriever pulled me out by my hair
Imagine had that dog not been so selfless
“Or is it yet another admonition from the Freepers Guide to a Risk Free Life”
Not running out onto thin ice after a dog would be an exercise in thinking twice.
Well, back in my day (we were 12) a good friend of mine accidently shot himself in the stomach with his .22 rifle trying to go through a barbed wire fence.
While I wasn’t there when it happened, I was very good friends with him and the other guys he was with. We were all in the same boy scout troop.
We had climbed through those fences a lot while hunting rabbits, squirrels and other small game a hundred times.
He had one in the chamber and the safety off. Dumb move, and it killed him. He bled out in a field while the other boy went for help.
I still think about it to this day, 50 years later.
I and the other boys suffered a lot of grief over poor Dwayne, but one thing is for sure: I always check the safety and never keep one in chamber.
Freepers love to scold risk takers
Its always been this way
Car ladies are cool but risk averse in general
The girl who died was well known to everyone at the school. We were all alarmed but we were not traumatized to the point that we needed more than our parents and other adults we knew to put her death in perspective.
The girl had run after a school bus and fallen under it’s back tires. She died on the spot. As children we took that as an object lesson that we too could make decisions bad enough to cause our own death. Like you I am cautious to this day but about being near moving vehicles.
I have been known to read the articles which distinguishes me on this austere forum
Sometimes just a headline is enough!
They appear to be oh-so supportive of one another...Not that it’s a bad thing.
Very sad. RIP.
For the most part, yes. As for the rest of it, I guess that should also be self-explanatory.

____________
Yes, sir.
And imagine if you had had no hair.
