Ford Motor Co. will reorganize its salaried workforce worldwide, flatten its business operations and create a more efficient company that results in fewer white collar jobs, the Detroit Free Press reported.
Ford has 201,000 employees globally, including an estimated 70,000 salaried workers, and is the largest car manufacturing employer in the U.S.
The company didn't say how many jobs would be affected.
The Dearborn-based automaker told employees about the plan on Thursday, the Free Press reported, saying the changes are part of trying to identify how the company can become stronger by limiting corporate bureaucracy and identifying weaknesses in all areas of business, from communications and finance to manufacturing and human resources.

Is there no end to this womans troublemaking?
LOL. If I had been drinking anything, I would surely have spit it out upon reading that...
Too many corporate fat cats? Or too much cost from union guarantees? Or maybe some combination of both?
I see what you did there.
Took me a second to get that, well played sir.
This lady does NOT kid around!
Rats. Ya beat me!
And here I thought I was being clever
When 1/3 of the work force of a manufacturing company is white collar, theres a problem.
With ever increasing use of automated manufacturing processes, one would expect that the % of white collar jobs will increase; but to 1/3?
These white collar workers should have few problems finding new jobs, many of them with higher salaries.
The stock has slid over the past year, closed about 9 1/8 on Friday, market cap is much less than Tesla's, and the dividend remains at 60 cents a share (almost 6.6% yield). I'm a fan of Tesla, but there's no way in hell Ford is worth less than Tesla, not least because of the current SEC turmoil. OTOH the huge caveat is, if Ford cuts its dividend, the stock will CRATER.
AI Robotics managers.
Ford to be more efficient and profitable, good!
Most jobs will go to our friends in India.
Yeah, cut the salaried workers and keep the administrators. The day will come when they lay off the last person who actually performs any productive activity, and it’ll take them six months to notice the money’s stopped coming in.
And they were the only one who didn’t take a bailout.
Trump effect
A handful of white collar uppers are going away early next year.
Maybe 5 or 6.
The place is rather small though in the US. A lot of admin and leadership stuff is going back to Europe.
I want the job where I get paid to play with my stapler all day and no one notices.
Since they are based in Dearborn, cut all the Moslems from the payroll first. Then see how much better the offices will look.
I think you have missed what Ford is doing. They are flattening the organization, i.e., reducing the management struccture. I worked for a major aerospace company that did this in the ‘90s. We went from 7 levels of management to 3. Ir was the best thing the company could have done. It improved productivity by thirty percent. Lots of lower, mid, and upper level deadwood went cut. Responsiveness improved tremendously. It also reduced fiefdoms. It is suprising how many manager feel the should have “support” staff anll the lackeys left. When it was over we had directors, senior managers, and managers. No more assistant directors, section chiefs, unit chiefs, or super visors. It was recognised that production expertise was vested in the worker that did the jobs and that managers jobd was to manage and facilitate. It completely re-envigorated the corporation and made it a leader and example of corporate efficiecy. It’s called cut the bloat.
Many companies and most governments are unnecessaryly over managed.
